  1. I always used to say I would rather be in the cold weather. Mainly due to pretty much every place having heat and it being easier to find a place to warm up than a place to cool down. But I was actually driving into work this morning, my car covered in salt, wipers not working properly due to ice, having had my car die the other day due to cold, running late bacause I sat at the bus stop with my kid so she didn't freeze, and I realized I could be happy moving someplace warm now. I'm tired of the crappy driving conditions, shoveling snow, pipes freezing, feeling trapped inside. In my old age, I can honestly say that winter sucks.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) YOu mean the guy who didn't get tough until after he left the room, then he started yelling like a badass? Yeah, but he told the judges he was going to do it, and was obviously just having fun with it all. He knew he wasn't going to make it, saying he was more into Hip Hop anyways, and was there for his cousin. His cousin then went in and did good, but Simon thought he lacked personality, and the guy went again and turned REAL good. Nice to see that guy, and the last guy, doing Sam Cooke! Though the last guy said he was going to do "Cupid", but instead did a strange medly of "Another Saturday Night" and "Cupid", but it sounded really good. My daughter, who is a HUGE Cooke fan, was in love.
  3. I liked the Emerald Nuts, Robert Goulet one.
  4. So, after seeing the commercials last night, it appears that The Police getting back together is almost as big an event as the Super-Bowl. I was kind of amazed at how many commercials there were.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 4, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) The garmin Power Rangers commercial was also pretty good in a ridiculously stupid sort of way. http://sports.aol.com/nfl/superbowlads *cough*Ultra-Man*cough*

    The Office

QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) i enjoyed the part when stanley broke his fork Stanley is my favorite.
  7. Oh, make no mistake about it, I'm torn 99% of the time as to who was better, Small Faces or Faces. It was those three guys: Jones, MacLagan, and especially Lane that made those two bands work, it was just the final piece(s) that added the final shine to them. I always say Faces was the greatest RnR band ever, but that is more because Small Faces were R&B more than anything else. Steve Marriott was one of the greatest voice ever (in Small Faces days, Humble Pie was great, but he was too "forced"). I love Pop when done right. My problem with Material is that no matter what, they did sound like a "Chicago" band. I don't know what it is, but IMO there is a certain sound to most bands that come out of Chicago. IMO Chicago is one of the worst music scenes in the entire world. I have finally, FINALLY found two Chicago bands I think are good: The Last Vegas and Calling All Destroyers
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Material Issue was just such a great band!!! Soxy inadverdently mentioned the name of a babd i used to see back in the college days and I got to thinking about a number of the bands i used to enjoy live. Material Issue was a huge favorite. It's funny that i never really thought of them in terms of being a Chicago band because I only ever saw tham when they would do Mabels shows in Champaign. IPO didn't even come out until two years after I graduated, but even back in 1987-1989 you knew what a great power pop band was when you saw them. I was so far removed from it in 1996 when Jim Elliot killed himself that I only noted it in passing. But damn, now it's hitting me what a tragedy it was. So, I've been spinning my copy of IPO the last couple days and I found their other 3 CDs used online and hopefully the show up today and I'll be in happy power pop heaven for a week. Anybody else here get a chance to see these guys while they were still at it? Thoughts? They were O.K. I've tried getting into them in the past, but they always fall short for me. Their best song, IMO, is the same one most people hate: "What Girls Want". That being said, his suicide was a huge shame.

    The Office

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) I particularly enjoyed Dwight quizzing Ben Franklin throughout the episode bc Jim said it was the real Ben Franklin. It was funny, but pathetic at the same time. I like seeing Jim take advantage of Dwight being gullible, but this also showed Dwight to being incredibly stupid. I've met dumb people in my life (an ex-girlfriend had never heard of Hitler, and she loved Charles Manson...it was a SHORT relationship), but I don't care how dumb or gullible a person is, there is no way they are believing a man from the 1700's is still alive today. Just dumb writing.
  10. Is one of those videos the one where they only will answer "hair questions"??? That is friggin' hysterical!
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) I see your point, but you have to rememnber that the 911 hijackings wnet through Boston, they're not taking any chances and rightfully so. Did Osama and gang use Lite Brights with cartoon characters on them also? Thank God he left the Easy Bake Oven at the cave. This is stupid.
  12. Or a certain radio broadcast made by Orson Welles on October 30, 1938.
  13. I'm amazed that this is getting sooo out of hand. Is Boston really full of this many idiots? Ya know...most bombs in this world are set out with flashing lights so everybody can see them.
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) No one in my house has seen any of the Harry Potter movies or read any of the books, and I think that streak is safe. My daughter actually enjoys reading the Spiderman comic reprints that come free in the Sunday Sun-Times - now she wants me to buy her more Spiderman comics! I think that's very cool! Good Lord, you need to come over again. My son has gone beyond bonkers with his Spidey love. The kid is 4 and is already busting the artists when they aren't consistent with costumes. He also started quizzing my wife on the Venom history, and when she couldn't answer him he told her she needed to get the old books and start learning! The kid is Superhero crazy, and especially Spidey.
  15. My wife and daughter are pretty excited about it. I've seen three of the movies (or...2...I didn't see the last one), so that is as far as my knowledge of HP goes. BUT it helps keep my daughter reading, so I am cool with them.
  16. 1 more freakshow, and then the Hollywood rounds. I see the try-outs as the comedy episodes, the Hollywood ones are the drama episodes, and the performance ones are the actual music aspect, with the most godawful car commercials ever made. Those damn videos they do make me lose any respect I might have for any of the contestants.
  17. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) I still like 1984. Van Halen II is the best, IMO.
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) The vocal are God awful. Rush and Queen, two of the most over rated 'great' bands. Sheesh...Rush also? Ya know who I used to love as a kid, but fell out of love with, and have tried getting into again, but I am now convinced fooled everybody by recording albums of about 75% "filler", then having 25% really good? Van Halen
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) That said, while I hate Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson is still one of my favorite actors because of the great movies known as Braveheart and Patriot. Russel Crowe in Gladiator (despite the fact he's an ass) is another personal favorite performance/movie. Huh, never seen that movie associated with "greatness" before. For me, Mel will always get a pass on almost everything due to his real name being "Max".
  20. I always wonder how unrealistic the show is. My wife is a nurse, and she will scoff at it from time to time, but they throw enough twists and turns in it to keep her in love with the show. Plus, they usually will twist it in a way so that just when she wants to scream BS at it, they give you something to go "oh...O.K.". As far as drama (and dark twisted humor) goes, it is bar far the best thing on TV. The only drama I even consider watching.
  21. Pretty good episode of House. Wilson is cool.
  22. 10PM is the latest I will call people. My sister will call REAL late sometimes, but immediate family gets a pass no matter the time. Everybody else, 10PM.
  23. I liked the guy who sang the Seal tune. Odd looking, cool voice, great sense of humor. Shame he'll get crushed by the evil monster that is AI though. I would like to hear what other song the hair chick sang, as she wasn't "bad", and may have been good.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 06:02 PM) Uh-oh, I smell a Sonic Ruin mousepad on the horizon!!!! Hell with that, a Sonic beer stein would be perfect!!! I need something to try and help pay for the shipping.
