QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Yeah, you can. But you assume that I actually admit to knowing you outside of the board.

LOL! Actually, Varg's mom even said that Varg was right in his crime because the other guy was a sissy. Varg later broke out of jail, assisted in burning down some more churches in Norway (if you remember earlier in the 90's there was a rash of Churches being burned down in Norway, it was Varg), and was finally pulled over by the cops. Word had it that he had enough weaponry in his car to supply a large militia movement! Bombs, guns, knives, you name it. For joyful reading...read up on Varg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varg_Vikernes (or read the book The Lords Of Chaos and learn to really love your own personal music tastes!)

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) I never meant for this to be a Dylan vs. Rush argument, you really can't compare the two. Exactly what I meant in an earlier quote where I said it was like comparing Backstreet Boys (dance Pop band) to Burzum (extreme Norwegian Black Metal where main man Vark Vickerness is in jail for murdering another Black Metal guy because he wasn't "extreme" enough).

Thank you Mr. Allen. Everybody I know of personally atleast likes Rush. As for Dylan. I can't name one person I know of who owns anything by or even likes him.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) I caught a byline on TV that said this was revenge for something that happened 20 YEARS ago??? WTF? Looks like it wasn't revenge, but rather a desire to re-do what he did years ago. It says on Yahoo that he told his wife that he had molested family members 20 years ago, and wanted to do it again. Hmmm, I wonder how you bring that up to your spouse? A little harsheness to follow. Sitting around the dinner table one night, Stanley lovingly gazed to his wife, Gertrude. "Hey honey, ya know, about 20 years ago something happened" "Hmmm, what was that hon? Pass me a roll, please" "Well, out at the tool shed I molested my brother." "Oh, really, huh, I wouldn't expect you to be the type." Gertrude says, buttering her roll. "Yeah, and the funny thing, I'm thinking I might want to try it again". "Really?" Gertrude looks a little surprised by this part of the confession. "Well, either that or take a school full of Amish kids hostage and open fire...I haven't decided yet".

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) That banana is awesome. They need to redo Peanut Butter-Jelly Time and use that. Thanks. I stole him from somebody else and now use him all over the place. I just laugh everytime I see him. He has some killer moves.

Like I said, "horrible bands" is your personal opinion. I know of many amazing bands that are influenced by Rush, but others might not like them. Just because somebody is too friggin' arrogant and closed minded to accept that something that they do not like is not neccasarilly bad is not my problem or Rush's problem. I am not a Rush fan, I own nothing by them, but I would never be such a closed minded idiot to claim that their musis "sucks". They are fantastic musicians who have made music loved by MILLIONS. No, record sales do not equate great music, but many of the people who claim that Rush are crap will also spend time praising stuff by bands like the Butthole Surfers. p.s. bmags, who is that in your avatar?

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) I have already made Brian promise to play that. I told him I want no tears at my memorial/funeral mass. Nah, ya should do "Don't Stop Me Now". Or depending on how you go, "Sheer Heart Attack".

Think about how many people were influenced by Johnny Thunders or The Ramones. How many bands were influenced by MC5 or New York Dolls. T-Rex had one big hit in the US (Bang a Gong) and one minor hit "Jeepster", though that one gets more play nowdays than does Gong) but influenced countless bands. How many girls have picked up a guitar (or bass) and you can easily trace it back to Suzi Quatro. The girl may have taken her look and playing from Joan Jett, but ask Joan who she took from and she will proudly scream SUZI.

I just want the songs played that would make people think of me. The bands I love.

I'm going to have the guts to come out and say this: I have listened to a whole bunch of Rush than I have of Bob Dylan. To discredit Rush and what they have accomplished in their time, regardless of how you feel about them and your personal taste, makes about as much sense as discrediting Dylan. I would lay every single one of my yearly paychecks on the fact that Rush has probably influenced damn near just as many people worldiwde as Dylan has directly. I would lay money on it that almost every Metal band out there (remember, drop your personal bias about possibly disliking Metal) will cite Rush as an influence, and many of them will not cite Dylan. I would also lay money on it that many drummers out there will admit to an admiration for Peart. Arguing over Rush being better or greater or whatever than Dylan, and vice versa is silly. No Rush was not going to have the political significance that Dylan had, but NO BAND did in the 70's. Geez kids, argue over who was better, Led Zep or Rush. Or argue Dylan vs. The Byrds. Arguing Rush against Dylan is like arguing Backstreet Boys against Burzum.

I see on CNN that a gunman sighting has caused two Vegas school to shut down.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) The worst thing in the world for Sox fans would be a good baseball mind in the Cubs front office. Bolded to accentuate the green. Shoot, can you imagine how interesting the "rivalry" would be in this town if both sides of town were actually putting GOOD teams on the field at the same time???

Actually it appears that the Ordonez thing worked out well for all parties involved. With him we probably would not have gotten to the World Series. Without him the Tigers may have had a tougher time getting where they are this year. I'm happy with the results.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) Even Styx is better. I'm still trying to get my head around this statement. Wow. IMO no band has aged worse than Styx. When I was a kid I liked Styx. Later in life (5 years ago or so) I decided to buy Paradise Theater, as I was convinced it was a great album. Wow...so...dang...cheesy. I haven't gone back to it since.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Did you notice Kiss and Aerosmith were on that list? Sales do not show greatness. I realize you're not presenting this as a "hardcore fact", but there are many bands who never released enough albums to have that many "consecutive" gold/platinum albums. Plus there are far too many "albums" that go gold or platinum because they have one good song (not accusing any of the bands on that list of this). But I have never liked Rush. There are bands that do what they did much better. You're not knocking Aerosmith...are you? I agree that in the past 20 years they are complete crap, but until Perry left at first, they were an amazing band. (IMO...of course)

NBC is silly for bringing on a show called 30 Rock. Everytime I see the commercials I think of 3rd Rock.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) I thought it already started. I'm kinda diggin Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - but I love a lot of shows about media. The Lithgow show starts on October 11th.
-
No problem. I was pretty sure ya weren't being a dick, but I had to make sure in my own way. I like Carrell normally, and I think he is a great actor. I just don't agree with the way Michael is done, as there is no way a guy like that is the head of anything. He's too stupid and too insensitive. If the show didn't go for the "Reality Show" angle, I might be able to accept him more. Now don't get me wrong, this, Earl and House are the only shows I watch on TV. It will probably remain that way until Lithgow's new show starts, then there will be 4 shows. But I do love The Office. I wish that at this convention that they were at last week that they had done a cameo with David.
-
I'm not a box of rocks, ya know? I've seen every episode. I think the UK version did a much better job with David than the US does with Michael. They are both idiots and insensitive, but you could actually like the UK version despite all his idiocy. The US Michael is just a dick. Nothing to like about him at all. In the last episode when Jim starts praising Michael and says he wasn't the reason that Jim left, and that he was a great boss, that whole part was really weird. We all see Michael is a terrible boss, and we all have been believing that the only person in that office that likes Michael is Dwight. I know the story, plot and all that junk, I just think Carrel does a really bad job with the character. In a show that is asking you to play along with it's "reality" so much, the main part about of it is so unrealistic it hurts the show, for me atleast.
-
Finally watched the new episode last night. I liked it well enough. Michael was less abrasive, and the twist with his party failing was kind of nice. But he still doesn't do much of anything to make you think he is a decent guy at all. If anything the show makes you feel like you yourself are a better person because you can find sympathy for such a prick.
