  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) I cannot believe that I am the only one in here who has any classical, jazz or soundtrack music in their iPod. I do see one or two blues tracks, though. Not true. I have a bunch of Jazz and Soundtracks, but I also have 9,882 songs on here. They might not show up within 10.
  2. Okey Dokey...let's hope nothing "dopey" turns up: Everything I Want - The Dogs D'Amour Rock Sex City - Adam Bomb Let Me Live My Own Life - The Chamber Strings Dream The Night Away - Cheap Trick All Alone - Rock City Angels This Evenin' - Rockabilly Mafia I Came Looking For You (rehearsal take) - Faces My Baby Is A Headf*ck - The Wildhearts This Is The Way We Are - The Alarm Erica Kane - Urge Overkill This is the second time I have done something like this. Interesting results both times. Critic, I didn't know you had Towers Of London. I'm still on the fence with them I want to like them, but there is just something about them I am not too keen on. Kind of like a modern KISS where they just miss having great riffs.
  3. I don't know what this "wall" is you are talking about. I'm listening to a new EP by the band The Compulsions right now, and there is a definite distinction between everything and the bass is VERY clear through out the whole thing, so are the drums. It's not just a giant wall. As for Jazz, one of my favorite "recent" releases is Ray Brown/Monty Alexander/Russell Malone, and good lord is that an amazing sounding release. Everything is distinct and warm. I also understand that a point can be made even if I don't agree with the person, unfortunately I think Dylan is out of his skull and sounding like an old man on this one and his point is a joke. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) See, I hated the way vinyl sounded. Let's put it this way - I was happy to buy CASSETTES because I thought they sounded better! I was all about STOPPING THE POPPING! Tapes may have sounded better at times, but I bought so many faulty tapes, and they went to crud so dang fast, I was more than happy to push that medium off the ledge and watch it go "splat".
  4. If a white player gets booed...is it racism? I didn't think sounds equated racism.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) well, he has a point, for whatever reason major label digital mixing has had a terrible trend of making albums louder and louder, and losing subtlety in instruments and sounds. I enjoy the sound of vinyl more, i enjoy its distinct sound. He has a point if you agree with him and dislike the sound of modern recordings. I've heard many great sounding recordings as of late. The new one from The New York Dolls sounds great, and much better than their releases from the 70's. The new release from Butch Walker sounds great. Indie band Chinatown's new album sounds amazing. Certain forms of music might sound better on vinyl, but it needs to be a style that lends itself to the format. A band using distortion will possibly benefit from vinyl, but the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or many Prog Rock bands will benefit from the clarity of the digital form, if they don't compress the hell out of it. YOu can hear more within digital, and that was something people realized when the CD "revolution" began. When I hard The Sisters Of Mercy's album First and Last and Always for the first time on CD I was blown away by how many more aspects of the material presented itself to me. Things I had NOT heard before were suddenly there. It's hard to say that you lose sound on digital but on vinyl they are there. I don't understand how that could be possible. I think Dylan is just reacting like many people do as they get older. Thinking the new generations are crap and whatnot.
  6. QUOTE(lightthematch @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) This article was amazing. I don't want to agree with it completely because I still enjoy a lot of today's music, but one of the main differences I notice between today's music and music 20 years ago is that an entire album was good. Today it seems like only 3-5 songs on the album are good, the rest is crap. That's not exactly true. It depends on what style of music you are talking about and what labels. Major labels have always been notorious for "filler". You mention 20 years ago, which lands us smack in the middle of the 80's, probably the most "filler" full music era. But you can grab many hit albums from the 70's, and there is no shortage of filler material on them. Underground bands and small indie labels will always produce more strong material, partially because the contracts allow for it. A major band, on a major label, will always be under more pressure and will more than likely not be allowed the time to test material out. It's been a looong time since I have actually bought a new album with only 3-5 good songs and a bunch of crap. The last one I did buy that was that sort though was a major label release. I also don't agree with what Dylan is saying. I've heard more than my fair share of great sounding discs. It's not the media or the recordings, it's the mentality going into recording and writing. This was pointed out years ago by, I believe, Les Paul. Nobody uses "dynamics" in their writing anymore. Even when a band plays mellow, it is still the same volume as the hard hitting stuff. Listen to an old Gabriel days Genesis album, the amount of dynamics that those guys used was ridiculous, but also very cool. It's just bands don't think that was much anymore. But yeah, Bobby, clarity in sounds, what a terrible thing. Give me the scratchy sound of vinyl again, please.
  7. For those questioning, this was not meant as a "are you a fan of the White Sox or not" type of question. It was mainly a "do you still believe we are going post season" type of thing. I'm sure there are diehard fans of teams that are going nowhere still supporting their teams. Belief in a team NOT making it is not saying you are not a fan. If that were true, then you must not have been a fan in 2001 and all the other years the team was going nowhere. I myself have huge doubts they will make it. If they do, it won't be our stellar play that does it, it will be Minnesota and Boston collapsing alongside and allowing us to get in. I haven't seen anything in a long while that makes me believe this team "has it" any more. But that being said, I will be watching every game still, I will be hoping my doubts are false, and I will be trying to get to a few more games this year and I will support the hell out of my team. But common sense tells me to not get my hopes up.
  8. So kids, lets see how things stack up against last year. Are you still believing this team will be post-season, or do you think they are done? No fighting, just a simple "in" or "out", as we did last year.
  9. Not only that, but on the other side of the coin, it seems like anybody that wants to run against us is given a free pass.
  10. O.K., not only is the song great, but the video is amazing! I'd love to know how many takes this took: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI
  11. Why is Mel Gibson holding a Cuban newspaper?

    SNL

Quarry "Star Wars, nothin' but Star Wars" I'm an old-timer I guess. The majority of my faves are from the first cast.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) He comes off as such a whiner. You serious? I think he comes across as a grateful guy who just wishes he had not been let go.
  14. Find me one person on the new SNL that has a glimmer of the talent that Bill Murray has. Or John Belushi...or Chevy Chase in his prime...or Gilda Radner. Will Ferrell is the best that show has turned out since Eddie Murphy, and no matter how much I might enjoy Ferrell, even he is nothing compared to those guys in their prime. I will agree with the generational thing to a degree, but with Murray and Belushi especially, there was no generation divide. Heck, I hear younger people speak poorly about Sandler as much as people my age. He yells...a lot...is that humor (sit down Mr. Kinison)? That divide rarely happened with Murray. Hey, but if you like SNL and all it's cast, then what the heck, ignore me. I'm old and forgetting where I put my dentures anyways.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) To be brutally honest, SNL needs more raging alcoholics and drug abusers. Somebody also needs to bring Aerosmith some drugs and booze while they are at it also.
  16. There is always good reason for rage when talking about modern SNL. That show hasn't been funny since the mid 80's and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Terrible show. That Prospector thing was stupid.
  17. I voted the "nobody" option. I just don't see anything monumental happening.
  18. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Was the service there extremely slow? That's the trademark of a Coldstone. Slow, and the guy seemed to not like his job. Oh, sure, they all sang when somebody tipped them, but none of them seemed to really want to be singing. You know, most places you go to they atleast fake it good, but here, nope, they all seemed upset about having to sing.
  19. I've had a $10 gift certificate for Cold Stone Creamery for about a year now. I had avoided it slightly due to an older thread on these boards, and the severe dividing line of "love" and "hate", and nothing in between. Steff really scared me from the place. Well, thanks to the heat I finally caved. The family and I went there. I decided to take the full plunge and did the Candy Land. Oh...my...god... Tasty? Yes. For about three bites. After that? I'm still sweating from the thing. No ice cream should be that strong...that heavy, that...I don't know...sweet! Good Lord...do people eat that stuff on a regular basis? Steff commented on how it was way too sweet. That seemed odd to me. How could ice cream be "too sweet". I had no idea...but now...I will have nightmares.
  20. How often do these BIG trades actually happen? It seems that the more speculation there is on a deal involving big names, it never happens during the season. Everybody sits around waiting and getting anxious, then nothing happens.
  21. We didn't get "swept", we got "vaccumed", cause we suck! LOL!!! Oh, that's a good one. Humor makes the pain easier.
  22. But...the game is still going on Gameday...
  23. Tell Singleton and Farmio I'll be out on the ledge if they need me.
  24. Welp, hopefully there is a Hell and she will eventually burn there forever. I'm still shocked her ex-husband doesn't want her dead.
