  1. well we don't have Yoendrys anymore, someone has to have it. maybe Bryan Ramos because he keeps 'YoYoing' between AAA and MLB.
  2. it'll never not be funny to me that everyone slobbers all over those two dudes, the criminal and the wunderkind, and they completely blew it with a $400mil payroll. the key point here is that they failed and now this year they're not even trying. meanwhile, the sox actually appear to be 'trying' this offseason and people are still complaining. interesting.
  3. the steve cohen special seems to be missing the playoffs then replacing the team's good players with polanco, a 35-year-old who just hit for 89 wrc+, a guy who posted a 5 ERA. maybe that's the david stearns special.
  4. I think most teams would be happy with Taylor, Leasure, Wikelman, Vasil out of the pen all making nothing. Newcomb is a nice addition from the left side, though he might start. Gilbert, Eisert, the two rule 5 guys are less than ideal. Bush, Murphy, Schweitzer, perhaps Schultz and Hagen could all potentially shore up the left side of the pen. Wasting money on the bullpen is a fool’s errand if you ask me. Relievers are too volatile.
  5. Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas, Key Largo, Montego. Just a few thoughts.
  6. if they paid him the same amount they paid Rojas, I think it's a good deal for what is basically a backup. I bet he could start somewhere though. I liked Moncada despite never living up to the hype. He's a nice guy, he'd always stick around longer than other Sox players to sign autographs for kids at spring training.
  7. Robert slashed .298/.352/.456 in the second half across 125 plate appearances. Seems totally reasonable to expect that next season (if he’s healthy).
  8. We should sign him too. tbh I’d take YoYo back. He’s probably better than Vargas.
  9. Yeah I think Emerson has been the kid with the most hype for multiple years. Roch went to college for a reason, he massively improved his draft stock with his sophomore season. His high school class was loaded which seems to be fortuitous for us this many years later.
  10. Hark, Gene Honda, Jerry sings. 村上 宗隆 was born in 熊本市.
  11. More shocking to me is the “women only” train cars to hedge against groping and that every cellphone has a clicker sound on the camera to hedge against upskirt photos. Weird place.
  12. Totally agree about Bonemer and Oppor’s placement. Intrigued by Bush’s placement. Surprised they have Sammy above Wolkow.
  13. Burke has crazy stuff. He just does. Can he locate it consistently? Not so far.
  14. so basically spend money Kendall Graveman, Joe Kelly, Vince Valesquez/Gio Gonzalez, Liam Hendricks and extend Aaron Bummer. because that strategy worked so well before. the evidence continues to mount that this is Rick Hahn's burner account.
  15. I'm not expecting a whole lot, but I'd echo Eddy's sentiment that the team wasn't completely unwatchable after the prospects came up and we look to have a lot fewer Maton/Capra/Amaya/Noda types stinking up the place. Biggest question mark to me is the outfield, wide range of outcomes leaning toward really bad, whereas I think the pitching staff could be about average and I think Burke specifically might take a big step forward. Would still like it if we could solidify the rotation a bit with a free agent but I'd also be cool with just throwing guys like McDougal, Murphy, Thorpe out there and seeing what happens. I still think it's a "see what we got" kinda year, but I also don't think this team is too far off the Tigers and Guardians, especially if all the young guys take a step forward from last season.
  16. lol. I just noticed Fajardo was in the deal. Actually a pretty good return for STL rather than a pure salary dump.
  17. A couple years ago, I was getting a cup of coffee or buying cigarettes or something on 53rd street and witnessed the "fire department" heroically "rescuing" someone from the top floor of a burning hotel only to discover I had wandered onto a movie set.
  18. He might genuinely be the worst defensive left fielder in the league (of anyone who hasn't been entirely moved off the position). Statcast has him at 4th percentile for both range and arm value. Fangraphs notes he was good for -16.5 dWAR. It's pretty surprising because he used to be kinda good there before joining the Sox. I'm not even sure you want him as part of a DH platoon because he posted some pretty extreme, likely unrepeatable, reverse splits last season (.276/.286/.563 vs Left, .231/.312/.396 vs Right). I think his role is pinch hitter and maybe you stick him in left when whoever is out there needs a day off. To his credit, he was technically an above average hitter last season, but I think I'd still want any number of our young players DHing ahead of him.
  19. I think the timing is such that Contreras wasn’t their first choice. Although as it turns out, STL is retaining some salary so BOS is only paying him $32mil. Have to think that’s close to what they offered Murakami and then completed this deal after he was off the market. Contreras is “proven” but he’s also pretty old at this point.
  20. Benny is a liability in left. Honestly just cut him.
  21. The ugly Sox just traded for willson Contreras. Have to think they would’ve preferred Murakami. less money, a decade younger, wouldn’t have to give up prospects.
