  1. how is it only the 5th inning? 4 hour game incoming
  2. Yeah it's a good point. Didn't realize he debuted, that's awesome. I've been a Doyle and Romo homer for a couple years, I like the potential ceiling, but I do think Adams actually helps the team right now and not sure we could say the same for Doyle. Still has time to produce, I guess, we'll see.
  3. My general feeling is that the team should've stood pat at the deadline and I would've liked to have kept Adams and Boston, but I think most of us can agree that this is not the year to go "all in" like that. Playin with house money and all. I do like that all of the acquisitions can be in the mix for next season at least. If Castillo's option is triggered for the third year, that's probably a good thing because it means he pitched well enough to reach the innings threshold. Unlikely event if there's a lockout though.
  4. That's not what was discussed in this thread. And Hays can't play center field, Doyle was brought in specifically to platoon center field. His metrics suggest he shouldn't play anywhere in the outfield. Doyle is also much younger and has several years of control. It was either Hays or Grichuk.
  5. Hays as a Padre: 26 plate appearances, .250/.308/.375 (.683 ops). 1 extra base hit, this home run from two weeks ago. Grichuk over roughly the same time period: 40 plate appearances, .375/.375/.725 (1.100 ops). 10 extra base hits, 2 home runs. Don't think we're missing out on Hays. Imagine if we kept and played Hays and Gonzalez, this team would not be in first place.
  6. Maybe Peters is our version of Otto Lopez. Marlins picked him up off the waiver wire and he's been an absolute stud, already one of the franchise's WAR leaders in 3 seasons. Really nice pickup, I was annoyed that he made the MLB roster and boy was I wrong.
  7. NBA has the 'Bird Rights' where you can go over the cap to re-sign your players and also offer more money than competitors in free agency. Pretty good system for producing parity it seems like. I think a salary cap would be very good for baseball (irrespective if it's what owners want), but something I think would be lost is trades. In the NBA, you have to match salaries so you can't just trade a couple prospects for a well-paid superstar unless you have the cap space to absorb his salary. Trades are much more interesting in the MLB than NBA to me, it would be a shame if that went away. You also have to account for the farm system which doesn't exist in the NBA or NFL, will those players count toward a cap? I think inevitably both sides agree around a cap, I just wonder how it will actually work in practice with organizations containing hundreds of players compared to, like, 14 or whatever it is now in NBA; while also being agreeable to the players. Maybe the arbitration system is reformed and players reach free agency earlier. I tend to think that would increase their career earning potential.
  8. This is something you made up but likely believe to be true because you're very stupid.
  9. I don't want to make fun of you because I think you have a learning disability. Like genuinely.
  10. They called me crazy for saying he's hurt and pressing at the plate to compensate.
  11. I think they make the playoffs only as a function of how bad the American League is this year. I mean, it would not surprise me at all if they fall below .500, but this year is a huge success for the development of the team (and an expected one to some) if they win 78 games. I only wish they'd gone after a stud SP in free agency last year because the next class isn't quite as good. Still some decent options, but would've been nice to get somebody like Ranger or Framber.
  12. Don't think he has the speed to be a plus defender in center. Maybe he gets really good jumps. Guess we'll see.
  13. After an 0-3 night, Gonzalez's OPS drops to .583.
  14. lol i had to turn the game off when it was 3-2, what the f*** happened. sure seems fortuitous i didn't subject myself to that
  15. Last start was Urquelle, tonight is looking like regular ol Urkel
  16. Excited to watch Rocker pitch again. Torched us the last time. Think he's a good trade target tbh.
  17. Yeah good point. I don't think he's giving our team anything this year.
  18. I think Doyle's ceiling is relatively high and his floor is negative WAR and unplayable. If he's a league average hitter and keeps up the defensive work, that's worth 4 WAR (ie his 2024 season). If he can OPS the same .764 he did in Colorado while hitting 20+ bombs, ~115 OPS+ or so, that's an easy all-star. Will he ever reach those numbers again? I dunno, maybe. With Brazoban and Castillo I agree with you though.
  19. little bit pedantic. you know who the last sox announcer was, right? that guy talked about literally everything except the baseball game. yet, people think he's the best announcer in the world.
  20. wonderful. burn that place to the ground. i don't buy it though, in the same breath he s%*# talks the red line about how dangerous it is. which fair enough, but still, shut up about it.
  21. The odd man out in the infield is Mune or he just moves to DH full-time. Which would be great. Beni is still the odd man out and might finally be tradable.
  22. I doubt he feels jerked around, he'd probably like the pay bump and amenities. I think it would be pointless bordering on absurd to call him up though.
  23. Concerning. Is he gonna hurt himself if he doesn't use the mechanics that "feel good"? Sounds destined for long relief. Also, I get these guys are their own people, but the Sox gotta watch what they're doing in the offseason. Quero went to those Driveline hucksters and broke his swing.
  24. why are you guys doubting Hagen
