Matt Shaw, the guy I was hoping the Sox would look into trading for this past offseason, is already having a good start to the season with his bat and hasn’t been bad in his transition to RF. Also, one of the Cubs top prospects (Kevin Alcántara) is currently killing the ball at AAA Iowa and he plays all outfield spots. After their recent spending splurge this past offseason, along with Shaw/Alcantara around to replace Suzuki, and Busch not being a free agent until 2030, I really don’t see them going after Mune with what his price will ultimately be. My money is still on the Dodgers because they seem to have an endless supply of it and LA is the place to be for Japanese players. They can ditch both Freeman and Muncy contractually once Mune hits free agency.

Like I said, he calls them “trade possibilities” and it’s obvious speculation made up out of thin air if you read the entire article. So once again, I just wanted to inform people that this isn’t really a “trade rumor” as you titled the thread, with legitimate source(s) attached to it. It’s just some dude throwing s%*# at the wall.

Looking back at that move, it looks even more pathetic now. The Sox were so cheap, they took an unfinished draft pick that was an obvious 1B at best and called him up to play the outfield, where he had no hope of being good defensively.

These are not legitimate trade rumors. This is just garbage trade speculation. The Cubs could afford him but I am sure they are done splurging after signing Bregman and extending PCA and Hoerner. Besides, Busch while not having a good season thus far is fine at 1B and he isn’t a free agent until 2030. If the Cubs spend money going forward, it will likely be on their rotation.

Unless Mune has no confidence in his ability, which he obviously does, where is his incentive to accept any sort of early extension and not take this to free agency? It’s not like he won’t be a free agent for years.

This is gonna suck fretting over. I wish there was simply no doubt who the guy to take at #1 is.

PCA with an RBI single and a walk today. After a putrid start to his season, his line is now up to: .248 .316 .390 .706 Cubs win their ninth game in a row. They are now 26-12, currently tied with the Yankees and Braves for best record in the MLB. When will their pitching injuries catch up with them?

Agreed. Quero isn’t helping the team or himself right now. Let him get back his confidence in AAA. Stick with Romo as the starter and call up Lee as backup. Reassess when Teal is finally healthy. I haven’t paid enough attention to how he looks but did Quero really gain a decent amount of weight this offseason? I think you are the second poster to say this.

Yep, it sucks. It would have been risky but I wonder what kind of money Mune was initially looking for on a long-term deal before he settled for the 2-year deal? MLBTradeRumors.com’s 8-year, $180 million dollar offseason projection on a long-term contract would look amazing right now. $22.5 million AAV until Mune turns 34, before he gets too old? That would have been a nice deal.

Hopefully that is not the case. Although the Romo pickup could be huge if it is. In any case, Quero probably needs to go down regardless. Give Romo a shot as starter and call up Lee to back him up.

Agreed. The Sox seem to treat their injuries like hockey teams would. Like they are at a disadvantage if they give out too much information on an injury.

These comments are a bit sad to see. He still thinks he will be a great player but he’s right that many fans are expecting generational talent.

Finally got his OPS above .700. He is now at a 1.8 bWAR and 1.4 fWAR. That’s the Cubs’ third consecutive walk-off victory, eighth straight win, and 14 victories in a row at Wrigley. 3.5 games above the 2nd place Cardinals. That’s a crazy heater considering their pitching injury woes.
