#1 doesn’t make sense because Houser is a free agent after this season. You either take the best offer and move on, or you get nothing for him. If you want Houser back, you offer him a contract in the offseason. #2 is just pure speculation and not worth mentioning.

Why wouldn’t you accept a mediocre offer for him if you are just going to buy him out after this season? Anything is better than nothing.

At a minimum, Robert will cost the rest of his $15 million salary for this year along with a $2 million to get rid of via his 2026 buyout after this season. Or, you have to guarantee Robert $22 million ($20 million option + $2 million buyout for 2027) to bring him back for next season.
