Great port… And the entire point of playing a vet like Tauchman on what even Getz knew would be a losing team over almost any other young player is for what the vet returns at the deadline. The opportunity cost of playing old vets is the plate appearances that could have gone to a potential longer-term OF solution than Tauchman. So hopefully whatever Getz gets in return for guys like Tauchman and Slater will be worth it.

I believe he also got 43 days of service time for his career earlier this season with the Brewers so he is guaranteed healthcare and life insurance for the rest of his life. That and a $761K salary is pretty damn good for a player that has no business in the majors, even for one of the worst teams in the MLB. I bet Capra absolutely loves Getz.

I think that’s a good candidate for biggest surprise trade. Not sure I agree that it will happen though. I can’t imagine Sosa having more value in a trade than his potential value if the Sox just play him.

Getz is quickly ramping up to steal away the Dumpster Diving World Championship belt away from Hahn. Quite the impressive feat.

The reason Tauchman and Slater likely were never going to be great acquisitions is due to their age. They are prone to frequent and nagging injuries, but this is also why they were cheap (under $2 million each). However, signing two vets to one-year deals has nothing to do with the future of the team or building around speed. Getz might sign a guy in a wheelchair if he was cheap enough and could still hit.

Robert is going to get hot once the temps get to above 100 degrees.

He really made this worse with the 30 seconds of dead air, rather than apologizing for the accident immediately. That made is so much more awkward.

And Clemens went on to pitch 11 more seasons and was an All-Star 6 more times. Haha.

This. The last known interest was over the winter with the Reds being the interested team. Should have taken whatever single top prospect (perhaps two?) they were offering and kicked in cash. It probably didn’t happen because either Getz wanted more or he couldn’t get Jerry to throw in cash. Either way, it was an utter fail of a strategy.

The problem is that they are all in on it — the CPS teacher with rolls that shot herself with her own carry piece and was quickly escorted out of the park (that also doesn’t live in Chicago, yet is teaching at a CPS; ain’t gonna lose that pension), the CPD by order of the mayor due to the female teacher being friends with the mayor, and Jerry Reinsdorf. The magic bullet theory is absolutely ridiculous. Regardless, the truth will never come out for obvious reasons. My buddy has a friend in the CPD that told him this right after it happened.
