White Sox showing interest in Michael Lorenzen reports Ken Rosenthal
No one wants Lorenzen on a 2-year deal, which is what he wants.

Grade the Cease trade
Your comps are simply lazy and not even close to being similar to Thorpe. You just threw out the names of two highly drafted Sox prospects that you remembered had lower velocity fastballs and busted out. Lance Broadway had a 5.01 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 10.32 H/9, and 6.29 K/9 in the minors. Kyle McCulloch had a 4.64 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 10.54 H/9, and 5.00 K/9 in the minors. Basically, they were never even good in the minors and were destined for failure in the majors. The Sox overdrafted these guys because JR preferred drafting college pitchers that were supposedly more of a finished product, more projectable to make the rotation, and had no signability issues. He always preferred being safe in the draft and taking backend rotation guys over pitchers with the best pure stuff. Meanwhile, Drew Thorpe currently has a 2.52 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 6.39 H/9, and 11.76 K/9 in the minors. Not even close to the bums you mentioned.

If you watch the video at this link, JJ Cooper of BA seems to disregard AJP’s report of Thorpe throwing 88 MPH as no big deal due to it being Spring Training and he’s likely not going at full force yet. Cooper says he normally sits at 91-92.

White Sox showing interest in Michael Lorenzen reports Ken Rosenthal
Now that he’s probably the third best starter left after Snell and Montgomery, with Cease traded, and a much cheaper option than the other two free agents, he’s probably trying to see the max dollars he can get on a 1-2 year contract with the other teams that need a starter (Yankees, Rangers, Giants).

Maybe, but he’s neither very young (27) nor are his minor league numbers very good. And I know I am a broken record with this but why the hell didn’t the Sox claim Canaan Smith-Njigba instead? A 24 year old lefty corner outfielder with very good minor league numbers. He also had an .860 OPS this spring with 3 homers and 2 stolen bases. Brutal decision making by Getz there.

Cease To Padres per Passan
That has been going on for a lot longer than 4 years, just not always consecutively.

Of course Robert is one, a very good piece. But you couldn’t salary dump Eloy and Moncada right now. Like most Sox fans, even Eloy’s mom probably gets pissed at his “HI MOM!” antics when he’s sucking at the plate or when he’s been on the IR for half the season. And when you have to say “a healthy Yoan” instead of just “Yoan”, you prove the point that the guy is injured too much.

That goes two ways though — it proves that not all of Baltimore’s prospects will pan out but it also will make their trade for Burnes look better.

I think that is the difference between this rebuild and the first one. We had some top prospects in the top 50 overall of baseball but we didn’t have much of a quantity of lesser but still quality prospects. It seems like we have more options now, but I guess we will have to see if this batch pans out.

Garland threw around 92. Sinkerballs were his game. But I remember him throwing 95-96 during his playoff starts in 2005, after he had gotten additional rest I believe.

He hated Hahn and has been hyping Getz ever since he was rumored to be in line for the new GM spot. I understand he likes Getz but it almost feels like he went so all in on Getz that he can’t change his tune now and has to claim that every move he makes is great one. I can’t buy it if someone can’t admit that many of Getz’s dumpster diving acquisitions this offseason were an absolute joke. I don’t buy the never-ending leadership benefits and “showing the young guys the right way to play” BS. Most of these over-the-hill scrubs will be gone in a year. Does their leadership magically stay with the team once they are gone?

Make this dude the closer, give him every save opportunity possible, and see what prospect(s) you can deal him for. Add that to the return on this trade. “Padres Rookie Right-Hander Steven Wilson Has a Captivating Pitch Profile“

Exactly, and if anyone actually bought what Jerry was selling in that media conference to announce Getz as the new GM, they need to have their head checked.

Shouldn’t you be more worried about your team’s injuries and your new starter acquisition looking like a tee ball stand this spring?- Cease To Padres per Passan
How many times were Kenny and Hahn wrong before they were fired? JR has made countless dumb decisions but he isn’t going to fire himself. If Grifol is still the Sox manager, I’m sure Getz has many years to prove himself, or his failure.- Cease To Padres per Passan
? I’m still laughing. There’s a reason they hate this guy even at his own message board.- Cease To Padres per Passan
At least we got another starter with a porn stache to replace Cease’s.- Cease To Padres per Passan
I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some truth to this as well. We all know how JR feels about signing free agent pitchers to multi-year contracts. It doesn’t happen. The proven is, position players are getting more and more money as well. So who will the Sox ever sign in free agency other than over-the-hill veterans?- Cease To Padres per Passan
I think $200 to $500 million dollar deals has changed the game. Teams don’t want to give up their top prospects if they are also rated top 50 prospects in the MLB. They know they can’t afford to buy these potentially top players in free agency so they are more willing to give up a larger quantity package of their slightly lower rated prospects in trades.- Cease To Padres per Passan
True story, unfortunately.- White Sox showing interest in Michael Lorenzen reports Ken Rosenthal
Haha, so true. I would not be surprised.- Cease To Padres per Passan
There is also risk appetite and I don’t think Getz had enough of it to go into the season and risk injury with Cease pitching until the trade deadline. I wouldn’t have had it either.- Cease To Padres per Passan
