White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
I believe SSHM may have been referring to this excerpt, assuming a recommendation was made for Clevinger by the joint treatment boards, but it doesn’t state that one was made.

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
It’s nice to hear Reinsdorf and the Sox get called out publicly for their dysfunctional management of the team.

Mully and Haugh on The Score are clowning the Sox about first base coach Jason Bourgeois being AWOL. They both think he had the runs. They just played audio of the Braves broadcast in which they shredded the Sox for not having a first base coach ready, as you can listen to in the video posted above.

I think your Nastrini point makes some sense. But guys like Soroka, Fedde, and Flexen need to prove they deserve to be in the majors regardless of anything Clevinger adds to the team.

I took it to mean that the Sox made this offer awhile ago and Clevinger thought he could do better so he kept waiting. Finally, Clevinger accepted it because he received no better offers. But yes, that would pretty much mean the Sox offer was the highest offer.

Are we being too hard on Grif?
Only Carrot Top is still available to manage the Sox. The other two guys are deceased.

So how does this happen? It appears that Grifol and the rest of the team didn’t notice it right away and Jason Bourgeois obviously didn’t let anyone know that he ate too many spicy tacos last night and was going to be on the shitter for an extended period of time. But all they had to do was sub in another coach to man first base while Bourgeois was dealing with his diarrhea. Great communication on this coaching staff.

Ah, this season’s fall guy, just like how Hahn and Kenny were at the end of last season. Makes sense.

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
Merkin has posted a story about this unofficial signing. No excerpt about the accusations from last year. “Clevinger returning to White Sox on 1-year deal (source)”

Hope you are doing well. This is worse than I expected but the irony of baseball is that they lost 3 straight 1 run games and could be 3-1 right now instead of 0-4. The problem is that they don’t have the lineup to win these tight games and they have just about the worst manager in baseball that won’t make the right decisions for them to win any of these close games.

Clevinger’s accuser dropped her lawsuit last year. Clevinger, Reinsdorf, and/or Getz won’t be addressing anything regarding last year’s accusations, resolution, and follow-up. As far as anyone is concerned at this point, Clevinger isn’t guilty of anything and the MLB cleared him to play.

I tend to agree. Reinsdorf and Getz know the team is going to suck regardless. The offseason was all about cutting payroll. Is Jerry really going to want to eat Grifol’s salary and pay another manager for this year? But I guess it may not matter much if Grifol is getting paid near what he is worth. ?

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
This isn’t exactly true. Yes, Clevinger was injured leading up to the trade deadline but he returned for a start against the Guardians on 7/29/2023, three days before the trade deadline. It was a good start and a win for him — 5 innings, 2 hits, 3 strikeouts, no walks, and no runs. He was healthy enough to trade with three days remaining before the deadline and teams have actually traded for injured players at the deadline before anyways, so that wasn’t the issue. There was less time for teams to assess Clevinger since his return start was just three days before the deadline, but surely starter-needy teams would have pounced on Clevinger + cash for a mediocre prospect if there was any interest throughout the MLB.

For what exactly? And this is a serious question.

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
The only things he did with the Sox that are known are coming out to the “Gold Digger” entrance music by Kanye, which was seen as bad taste considering the recent allegations against him. He also threatened to sue The Score radio station after Parkins & Spiegel had his accuser on the radio to tell her side of the story and they basically ran with her words as being true. As far as any negative clubhouse stories, I don’t believe any ever came out if there were any.

Exactly. Thank you for having common sense and reason.

So why don’t you understand that eating say $5 million of that remaining money would have saved him $1.65 million? Why would JR not have done this? He could either recoup some of that $6.65 million or none at all. Paying out $5 million in a lost season is better than paying out $6.65 million.

And now any MLB team could have just signed Clevinger for this paltry amount, yet only the cheap and pathetic White Sox pounce? No team wanted the guy except for a very cheap owner who doesn’t want to pay true free agent pitcher prices.

Of course Jerry would have, to save even the slightest amount of money. This is an absolute no brainer.

Why do you not understand that Jerry would have gladly picked up $6 million of that to save $650K? He ended up eating all $6.65 million anyways, in a losing season! What don’t you understand? Sure Jerry is cheap but he knows wtf a sunk cost is.
