I believe this was on purpose. Kind of hard to miss home so badly that you nail a bird on it's perch. As for ben Christensen, he is a Cub prospect who nailed a guy on the on-deck circle a few years back. SUpposedly the on-deck batter was eyeing Christensen's pitches, and his coach told Ben to throw at the kid in the circle. Christensen one-upped his coach and beaned the poor kid in the f***ing eyeball. The kid who got nailed was gaining interest from the Diamondbacks, but his career is over now. I believe he is mostly blind in the eye that was struck.
