  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) 2015? Were Sox going to take Benitendi if Bosox passed on him? 2014? We got our guy in Rodon. 2013? I can't remember who we wanted. for me, i was totally surprise at anderson. the players i wanted were all drafted before the sox picked.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:16 AM) The only freaking player I can think that we thought was going to be a perfect fit to add power at the cell and did was Jim Thome. nice post... i didn't think of that. but i also think that they may have thought the same thing may happen again so they went out and sign Dunn.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) I'd probably go as high as ten to try to entice him. Or less with incentives. Sounds like a lot but it would just be a one year deal. I also figure they will bring Alexei back cheap and after this year they no longer pay Jeff Keppinger, which was 4.5 each year for last 3. but do you think that his agent will allow that??? i want to say no. too much of a gamble of getting hurt or is hurt.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 05:45 AM) Sox are going to do the latter of course. They have now reached the point where 'hope' is all they have. Mark how can the FO not see, there is a lack of anything remotely resembling prospects in the minors or depth. what were they looking at??? didn't they figure this out before?? /my mini rant!!
  5. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) There were reports (some from this site as I recall) that Hahn wanted to deal, Kenny as usual wanted to 'go for it' and add pieces. A stalemate took place and nothing happened. Which if true is a prime example of why someone has to go...it just doesn't work having two people trying to run the show. Mark yeah i agree. i keeping thinking if the shark trade went down, depending on the team and the rtn, the team may have filled a hole or 2 .... it is too late for me to cry.... but this is why the org has to offer shark a QO. it is still a win-win situation.
  6. i really don't know what the problem is or the answer. i will go back to what i stated earlier. not my rant on the owner and not getting enuf players nor the profit and lost. the one problem that i keep coming back to is this. many thought that the sox did enuf changes to be in better shape, including me. the owners and FO thought the same and to be honest most was in a giddy mood b/c it. dang, even at the trade deadline, the sox rolled out a series of wins. now this is a rhetorical question, what happen to cause most of the team to fail, to go into a prolong slump?? could anything have been done from management side to change the momentum??
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 11:32 PM) Agree. Boras clients have done this before. What better place to rebuild value as a hitter than the cell? If he doesn't get a QO, I'd offer him a one-year deal if he's willing to take a deal like that to rebuild value to try again next off-season. for discussion sake, at what cost for a 1 yr contract.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) Interesting, especially given how much DJ and Farmer seem to hate Eaton's defense this year. I know I've said it a few times, but it wouldn't shock me at all if Eaton is dealt this offseason. i am for trading mostly anyone, if the sox can get at least equal value or more. but in case of eaton, who has establish themselves that they can bat #1, lead off. that is really important for the batting order. but let me clarify proved themselves with mlb experience who can bat lead.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I think the big move is for a third basemen whether it be a trade or in FA for a guy like Zobrist. I really see them trading for a catcher like Gary Sanchez or Austin Barnes and keeping Flowers as the backup. great post and i agree. i wouldn't be surprise to see a low end sp. just in case.
  10. this got me thinking or rethinking on bats and the weight of the bats. can that add to this power. it still comes back to the Babe.... having the heaviest known bat from 1910 and on. that is recorded for this time The Babe 54 oz. some guy in the 1910 48 oz. Lou Greig 40-42 oz does anyone remember old clips of the Babe swing that bat like a twig??? geez
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) Also, it should be noted that Thompson's BABIP in September is just .250, which is actually on the unlucky side considering he's still driving the ball, yet his OPS is still >.700 and he has 0.3 WAR. He does that over a full season and he's a 2 WAR player. ummm you are talking english right
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) The current leader among qualified hitters in line drive rate is Brandon Belt at 28.7%, and the hard-hit% would put him right around 60th or so. League leaders: #1 http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=0&sort=5,d Thompson's batted ball stats: #2 http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...n=OF#battedball ref to #1.... avi garcia - #21 ~~edit - is there a min at bats or something to be eligible??? btw great stuff and many thanks.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) The current leader among qualified hitters in line drive rate is Brandon Belt at 28.7%, and the hard-hit% would put him right around 60th or so. League leaders: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=0&sort=5,d Thompson's batted ball stats: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...n=OF#battedball ahhh i really can't believe it... they even have a stat for all this great info. can anyone imagine what it would been like in the 60's.... dang i am freaking old.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) Hard-hit% of 31.7% and a line drive rate of over 29%. or those %'s really good or what?? is there a publish link so i can keep that save in my fav's???
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) TT also hits the ball very hard. His BABIP may not be this high forever, but he has to have the highest exit velocity off his bat of anyone beside maybe Abreu. didn't someone say the same of olt, i don't know, this week or last week??? is there a stat group for that??? remember i am not a stat guy.
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) He threw roughly the same amount of innings as Bickford, Russell, and Nix and had better numbers the pretty much all of them. Edit: Oh, and Jon Harris then i humbly will eat some crow.... pls pass the ketchup.
  17. i know it is me and me only. but dang it, i feel like a dang dog hollowing at the freaking moon. pls o hockey demigods, let the hawks get rid of bickell. i keep doing the numbers and i still see Kyle Baun as being a finalist to making the team. which i am extremely happy about. i am still trying to figure where this kid came out of and why hardly any press. but if he does, who else does not make the team, b/c of bickell and his contract.
  18. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) So Carson Fulmer didnt make the SAL list? Lol, ok. with all due respect, but he teally didn't do much to warrant to being listed. imo. the sox kept him on a short leash.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Poorly written, basically reads like someone just read the boxscores. Example: Anderson's defense has improved this year enough that it seems like he'll stick. We know that due to first hand reports from both ourselves and prospect guys. i know i probable have the worst command of english on this board, but man, even i can see where that is bad writing.
  20. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) I think the Sox need to try and add an OF in the off-season. If they can add a solid bat w average defense, then you can play Avi/Melky/ Thompson and Eaton in the best allignment around that player. Melky or Avi should move to Dh and LaRoche to another team. but if they don't .... TT can be a nice replacement, until he proved he can't do it everyday, but his defense is special.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) As we wind down a disappointing, dismal season Dan Helpingstine revisits the ray of hope that the 1971 team had after the worst season in franchise history. Think we can get something similar to begin next year? http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/09/1970-a-ray-of-hope/ oh man.... for the old farts like me.... what a blast from the past. i was the only sox fan in my neighborhood and i remember all those lean yrs. it was brutal being a fan for a team like that. but i still wear my sox hat proudly. edit.... great article and many thanks for the warm memories.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) I still think Montas does something (probably for another AL Central team) before it's all said and done. interesting, .... i wish i knew this . but if Montas still stays as a sp, i think he has maybe another yr in the minors or less. i think if he is a RP, then he is ready. but does that warrant any ratings????
  23. from what i have been able to pick up in the minor little updates news of hockey and not concerning Kane. what are your surprises so far, from the reports you have heard or read.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) For me, I think if we get an actual above average player in a corner OF spot you do it, you don't hold anything warm for a less than sure thing. But, if next year is just a year to let everything develop, I think we give it to Trayce who has earned it. you got a point, will the sox, if they were planning on looking into the fa pool look no further.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) I've never been Trayce's biggest fan but we're to the point where he has to be in consideration for a starting outfield spot next year, right? if this was his audition. he passed. but the FO and coaches may have other ideas. to me, he proved he deserve the shot.
