Starling Marte should have been with the White Sox

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) Uh, yeah. I understand. But really? The site owner (sorry J) has some of the worst grammar in the history of grammar. It's really not a big deal on a sports message board. But I digress. Hopefully they edit the title so all can be right in the world of the internet. nah.... that one is me. i was chase from this site many yrs ago. as i been chase from the hawks site on future hawks. they are a lot worst than here. -
greg you are wrong on this one.... big time. ozzie fvvch up and push it.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) Cleveland announcers hit it on the head. His windup and delivery make it easy for the hitter to see the ball. That why you have guys pulling the ball in 98mph pitches. Plus kids think they throw the ball hard enough to blow it by big league hitters. They think all teams have bat speed like the Sox. great post and thanks for bringing this up. right on.... if true.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) The point DA and myself are making is that with the Sox having an offer on the table, the money was already there before the Sox tanked. as you, DA and Lip have stated, i will go 1 further and add. yes the offer was on the table and maybe until a 1/4 of the season in. however, this team has a real bad fundamentally group of pro players and that should be address in spring training. next the savings alone on shark salary, if he took the extension is nice. it is better than spending that money and getting that results. lastly and i think this should be a soxfest question when the fans goes and have a Q/A sessions with the FO. do they the FO really expect the fans to step up and pay for season tickets when this is the final product??? then to have the owners comes out and criticize the fan based who did show up and pay for season tickets, yet at the same time calling out the rest of the fan based. would they, as they have mention many times over are/were fans in their young days, pay for this kind of performance??? -
however for this subject only. i really have no opinion one way or the other, b/c this is strictly a advance stat question. but with the use of the advance stat, isn't it going toward that theory, of using the hitter who is better suited for a particular rh/lh throwing pitchers??? so with that, this is taking it to the next level.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) If the Sox enter 2016 planning on a 5 man situational handedness platoon, then I am going to be doing a lot of yard work next year funny.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Dude just started to pitching after a year off. He'll be fine. i do not know if he would be fine or not. however lets look at this, this way, he was off for a while to an injury. he is going to get reps to get in this game shape people talk about. this is a free pass for him until next spring training. then i would imagine he would be under the microscope, as the old cliche goes. anyone not every RP / CL is going to be successful every time out.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) I like this. Rodon will still end up with a significant increase in innings this year and he's still just 22. It's only a skipped start, no big deal. even if it is a another one by season end. he and the sox have done a great job. i am wrong, i didn't think that they, the sox coaches would have this kind of a job.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 07:27 PM) Nah...when I'm working on analytics and mining data at work, I get a little loopy and my sense of humor gets twisted, haha. thanks for the humor.... refreshing and funny.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) Well, another big reason is that we've been under .500 for 4 of the last 5 seasons, including a top 3 pick. Top 15 picks help too. yeah, that's for dang sure.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) In that framework, yes, you want BPA and not positional need. You never draft for positional need, at least not in like the first 10 rounds (late in the draft you do end up going for evening out depth to a certain extent). So whether or not your team needs pitching or catching or shortstops, you draft the most valuable overall players you can. And it isn't primarily because of trading - it is just the nature of baseball and that even good prospects typically take a few years to reach the majors and your team needs will change in the interim. It isn't like football or basketball. now with that.... i can understand and now everything falls in place in my little world.
-
ok, nice post NSS72... i am done... but something just pop up. now with the idea of BPA depending on the needs of the team. if during the draft, it is apparent that several pitchers is slated to fall to your pick, and the teams needs or positional.... won't it still be best to draft the pitcher and use the excess of pitchers in a trade. but on a sidenote, if the other teams knows you need a positional player, wouldn't it be the best for them to ask for more in order to make the trade... so what will be the smart thing to do???
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) In the new system, it shouldn't be seen as BPA (Best Player Available) at every pick. It should be BDA (Best Draft Available) across all picks. and i have stated, depending on the needs of the team. of course the FO will have a better idea of what is needed. btw, i agree with you.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) Nobody says this. Just you. It's not possible in the baseball draft. Sure, in the first round you'd like to take the best player if possible but the MLB draft is very strategic. it is obvious that you do not have your facts. look at the thread of the last draft. their were some posters who were very insistent on dafting BPA.... better yet, look at this thread, it was mentioned several times. so get your fact right. now when posters state BPA, they should have some stipulations to that statement.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 04:46 AM) Teams didn't take Cameron because he wanted nearly $5 million. Astros were one of only teams with budget to do it. They did it. so this goes to the coined phrase of take the BPA. so what does that mean of drafting and the sox making the selections on next yr draft. are posters going to keep telling others to take the BPA???

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 03:19 AM) It's not just "Will they make some necessary acquisitions via FA" or however you said it. The reason why I pointed out in the other thread HOW TERRIBLE the return on free agent investments was in 2015 was that at least last year, if you tried to completely overhaul your roster, fill multiple positions through FA, it was an abject failure. Maybe Heyward you go after because you think you're going to be able to compete in 2-3 years, but "making necessary acquisitions via the FA rt" is fundamentally flawed. They can't be necessary acquisitions in FA, you have to have a strong roster without them. If you don't have a strong enough roster that you need to fill multiple positions, some of the big money you spend to fill those positions is likely to wind up completely wasted. That's one we need to recognize. A big part of the reason why last offseason's "plan" failed was that it is fundamentally flawed. In this market, with this much money out there, you cannot completely overhaul a roster in free agency any more. You need to have a roster that you're adding small supplements to in order to make the FA market work. you make a valid point..... but what many is asking for is flawed. trying to get a player who has the necessary stat across the board is going to be a chore. just as you are looking, so is the stat savvy gm on the other team. the bottom line is while looking for that player, this team has holes and it needs to be mended. the answer is FA... but this time on the go around, their will be restrictions set down from the higher ups.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 01:50 AM) Not sure, considering it's postseason. Rain delay. thanks for your answer.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 01:42 AM) 4-1 in the 9th, two on, no out, and rain on the way. another walk, bases loaded pitching change. Hopefully they can suspend this until tomorrow if they have to. wouldn't they just call the game ???

QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 01:04 AM) In lieu of acquiring another outfielder, there may be a way for the Sox to productively platoon Eaton, Cabrera, Garcia, Thompson and maybe even Shuck. Although he's a switch hitter, Melky has been better in his career vs. RHP, with the notable exception of 2012. He's been better this year batting from the left side: .283 .330 .404 Dido for Eaton this year, with all of his power vs. RHP: .283 .368 .461 Avi has been better vs. LHP: .298 .353 .404 Thompson has the reputation of being better vs. LHP, We've seen it during his brief stint this year, and it was much the same at Charlotte: .314 .346 .483 Shuck has actually hit lefties better, in his career, even though he bats from that side. I hate the idea of platooning young players like Thompson and Garcia, because it slows their development. Nevertheless, if it could boost production, and get the team on base percentage up to a respectable level, it might be worth a try. If they could dump LaRoche, I would pick the best 4 of these 5 guys and platoon them in the 3 outfield spots, again of course, barring an acquisition. Eaton and Thompson could platoon in CF, Avi and Melky could do the same in Left. Late inning defense could include both Eaton and Thompson, for Center and Right, with either Melky or Avi for the other corner. this is the wild card going into the off season. i have been thinking long and hard and have asked some posters on their opinion. basically it comes down to this. will the owners allow the FO, Hahn to go out and make some necessary acquisitions via the FA rt??? the answer i get is maybe and if so, it will not be major deals or money being spent. so the Heyward kind of wish list is out the freaking window. so it will be thru trades. i just hope it really isn't for prospects... i am kinda of hoping that the sox get players who are the mlb roster now. so imho, no outfielder on the wish list and adam laroche is and will stay as the dh. that leaves getting a 3b and catcher. i really do hope i am wrong.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 11:00 PM) Melky is the bigger anchor: lousy defender, hitting poorly, stuck a year beyond Laroche, cost a draft pick. a purely innocent question. can you use the 2014 stats on melky to see the difference in the 2 yrs??? the problem i have is this yr totally sucks and i just can't believe this is the real players that the sox signed during the FA period.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Chances Kaner dresses for banner night are down to about 10%. i say even less. the reason, the grand jury decision is an unknown.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) If true, then I would assume the rift between Shark and Coop does not exist. Because there is no way the FO would want Shark back on a team with so many young pitchers. Imagine Coop trying to get Rodon to make changes while he knows Shark does not trust Coop's advice. Either that or Coop is on his way out. while you do make a excellent point about coop. i just look at Rodon and see how the sox coaches handle him. they did a great job and esp not overloading him. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) I'm off today and U.N.C.L.E is the only thing I'm slightly willing to see. So if it sucks, I'm blaming ya'll. uncle was ok.... not great. i am a huge james bond fan. i really can see Henry Cavill as the next james bond.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Yeah. It was a thin plot and really...weird. The ending wasn't worth the foreshadowing and story. i remember i was praising this movie when it came out. well, everyone does have opinions and have a every right to it. at first i didn't know what to expect.... but i like it. i remember the late 50's black and white movies that had orson wells and burt lancaster. they were hard to get use to them, but it was great moving making.... this was just one of those movies just like glengarry glen ross. that movie was rough to watch.... but it was a great movie. a movie that is a 1 time movie. .... so the questions is expectations of the fans and a criteria for movies.
