  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Leury hit a homer off Danks. man, Danks is making it hard for me to continuing to be his fan.
  3. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:05 AM) "I think the White Sox just make smarter business decisions than most teams." Really? And how do you arrive at this conclusion? Based on the club's success? The Sox have one playoff appearance in the last DECADE since the WS in '05, and that appearance lasted all of one minute. And the 24 years prior to '05, this current Sox ownership saw their team reach the postseason a measly three times, combining for just three wins in those appearances. Real "smarter business decisions" contributing to that unheralded record, I must say. And as of today, this supposed record of "smarter business decisions" has this big market team almost dead last in attendance and TV ratings as we speak, and a team payroll going into this season almost identical to that of the Kansas City Royals AND Minnesota Twins, and less than that of the Reds, Blue Jays, Mariners, AND former Montreal Expos, the Nationals. But god are we "smart", we managed to get Sale and Abreu to sign for under market. Whoopie...for the investors!! i am very impress by this post. nice job.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I am guessing the technicality is that they need a positive test, and they didn't get one. sounds like he tried it but didn't inhale.

    QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) Nonsense. Malnati's is king. i never got into deep dish. i just don't know.
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) you're right, needs to hit a bit more. anyho, he is an of'er i don't know if they could fit him in. but that power..... if only he could hit in the 330 avg. mock draft has him late 1rnd. if he keeps up that avg, i will expect to see him drop to the late 2rd or 3.

    QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) HRI is good but there are so many other options just as good its just depending on what part of town you are in. Nuevo Leon has the best tortillas I have ever eaten. i am not talking Domino's there are no pizza better than HRI.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Another good sign management wants to contend this season. Keep bringing in bodies in case it's like last year and guys are effective for 1-2 appearances then get lit up. Hope Coop is enthused and ready to manage some bodies. oh i hate to say this, but if they really wanted to win, then address this in dec thru fa.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) In my opinion, he's done. 11 ERA in the Spring, and his fastball lost 2 mph last year. the sox could have easily have found a better option. so many are now getting release.

  13. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) I'm liking this, too. Seems advanced. could be, i think most if not all pitchers are afraid to challenge him..... so look at his slg..... and think about all those walks. but that 270 avg....
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) 15-20 years ago, a guy like Robin wouldn't have been hired in the first place. He wouldn't be given a contract extension after a 99 loss season. I know where you're coming from, but Robin Ventura is bullet proof. wasn't Robin still playing ball?
  15. QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) I doubt ANYONE saw the amazing run of 2005 coming before it started. - Wire to Wire - Best record in baseball - Had the lead in something like the first 35-40 games of the year. (Have to look up the number.) - Won first game of year 1-0, first game after ASB 1-0, and last game of WS 1-0. - Ended season through playoffs with two 8 game winning streaks sandwiched around a 3-2 loss that would have been a tie had Contreras gone home with a comebacker early instead of trying for a DP that didn't work. - 4 straight complete game wins against the Angels in the ALCS. - Dustin Hermanson as closer early. Bobby Jenks getting picked up for nothing to be the closer late. - Podsednik with 0 HR in the regular season, but 2 in the postseason, including a walk-off one against Brad Lidge. - The freak plays that really helped the Sox in the postseason -- Dropped third strike to Pierzynski, and phantom HBP against Jermaine Dye. - Iguchi 3-run homer against Wells that brought the Sox all the way back out of a 4-0 hole. - El Duque's masterful bases loaded no out relief job at Fenway to help sweep out the defending World Champ BoSox, and lead the ChiSox to their first playoff series win since ... 1917! - Don't stop believin theme song. I could go on and on about that year. When it was over, I wrote a 17-page remembrance to the season so I wouldn't lose those memories. nice job....... thanks.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) @jonmorosi: Matt Lindstrom has signed with the #WhiteSox, source says. nooooooo
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Seems pretty likely that Tate and Rodgers will be the top two picks yeah 2 mocks already in the past week has tate going #2. i still like Kirby as the best college pitcher. but that is my own opinion. but Tate is going to easily move up into the top 10 then having others to drop.
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) I'm liking Stewart and Tucker as I did about a year ago. Get one of them lefty bat, professional hitter types, IF you can get him significantly underslot with a plan at throwing money at an overslot fourth rounder. I'm always a BPA guy, but real lefty bats are a rare commodity, and will have a ton of value moving forward. Stewart, he is starting to bring up his batting avg. i was a little concerned about that, his avg. but now it is above 270. i still wonder how this will transfer to the minors and later. he is leading the nations in walks. as power hitters, i am liking David Thompson. i found out he had a great freshman yr and missed his soph yr due to throat surgery. but i know you are keying on lh hitting. sorry for digressing.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) I think you are exactly right. Bonifacio and Beckham add versatility and we need both to win this thing. People want to hate of certain players and give passes to others but this is a 25 player team and they plus the coaching staff are all going to be trying to do their best. No one intentionally does poorly. I will defer to the wisdom of Hahn and Williams in the make up of the Sox team. I woud just like to see folks pulling for all players on our team and not going off on tirades because of a K, a GIDP, an error, etc. If you feel the need to rant then let's take it out on the Internal Revenue Service. After all Everybody hates the IRS. nicely done, a nice substitute to hate on. but with ref to hating, i can rant on certain things related to this team, but when the season starts, time to pull for the sox. i hope i do not regress. but i want to make the freaking playoff.

    QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Tokyo Drift is probably my favorite of the series. I wanted to drift every corner after walking out of that movie. The new one was decent. If you go into it trying to rip the plot apart, it's really easy, but you just wouldn't enjoy the action of the movie. It's so ridiculous at times that you just have to laugh. The end was very emotional with the Paul Walker tribute. I didn't take his death that hard, but I was on the verge of crying during the tribute. It was very well done and probably the best way to finish off Brian's character. it is so excellent when movies do a great tribute to a fallen actor. nicely done. class.
  21. since it is easter weekend, i will post this stats up. Hr lead ncaa div 1 7. DJ Stewart Florida St. Jr. OF 30 games 9 hrs 27 David Thompson Miami (FL) Jr. 3b 30 games 8 hrs 31 Alex Bregman LSU Jr. ss 29 games 7 hrs 38 Ian Happ Cincy Jr. OF 26 games 7 hrs there are a couple of players that are surprising me. 3 unlisted players, 1 is from Ill ST, Paul deJong 3b tied with 3 other in the nation for most hrs at 10. the other 2 are next yr draft 2016. the other player is Harrison Bader at #8 ties with 8 hrs and the last one is a another player that i like Chris Shaw also tied with 8 hrs. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/208
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 05:18 PM) Funny, those aren't the 3 worst guys on the team. And the point I made was people praise s***ty players. Look at Bonifacio. He makes almost as much as Flowers and Beckham combined, and he is a pretty s***ty player, yet gets praised, and we get the "if he is used properly" crap. I would love to see someome in this board "use" a guy "properly" and only have him face pitching from one side. dang it, i hate coming in when a great discussion is going on, it make me feel as i am cherry picking the issue. re Bonifacio, i am a fan and i wanted him on this team. b/c of the many positions he can play. he is or will be a great utility player with a special niche he can hit in certain situations. which the chance of Eaton, getting hurt, Avi, if he can play a whole season without getting hurt and help out in the infield, i see him in that role. he will not hurt that much, and can provide a useful backup. now define backup, simply stated, a backup is not a full time player but someone who can provide a decent substitute for a players to provide rest or to take over if injured.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) It's complicated and fuzzy. It's really anyone's race. Any of the four AL Central contenders can dominate if "everything goes according to plan," but none of them are well equipped to deal with any significant issues, such as a key injury or two or a star player not living up to expectations. So the team that wins will be the one that mostly "does what they think they'll do." The Sox biggest issues are that (1) John Danks and Hector Noesi both suck, seriously, no matter how much we want them not to suck, so they're going to have to perform significantly better than what they are likely to perform in order to not hold us back (which definitely CAN but probably won't happen), (2) we're a "stars and scrubs" team, in that we rely heavily on our core players to provide transcendent, elite level performance in order to be successful, so if one of them sucks or gets hurt, we see a huge dropoff in production in the replacement (and just by the law of averages, usually SOMEONE gets hurt), and (3) players that do what Avisail Garcia has done are usually terrible, so he's not projected well. We know he's got the tools and he could very well buck the trends, but we have to admit that historical precedent shows us that it's unlikely he does so. It's a vague answer, but it's also the beautiful part of this sport. Anyone can take this thing. Just rest assured that this team has a real shot this year, because that's what matters most. Don't stress, LDF, it's baseball time! oh i know it is B-time and i can't freaking wait for the sox to shove all the crap down those so called pro's throat. i was just getting pissed at the lack of love for the sox side. dang, i guess i should have gotten used to it with the sCrubs on the north side. many thanks and i appreciate it.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) As a draft follower, I generally prefer college pitchers to anything else and then college players overall as opposed to high school players (maybe I am jaded since all the high school players the Sox take bust), but man, if Aiken is there when the Sox pick, I would really think about that. To think you could get two Ace-left-handed starters in back-to-back drafts would be a great result. Plus, the Sox would have immense leverage over Aiken in terms of money. You probably could get him at slot, as I highly doubt he would risk not signing AGAIN. on a side note, if you are a draft follower like some of us here, i wish you would post more of your opinions. i would love to read then plus get another perspective on this yr draft.
