  1. i wonder if the Dodgers will still ask the Sox to do a trade, Crawford or Etheir + prospect for Danks.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 06:55 PM) I don't necessarily agree with this. I still think they're the favorite in the division and by quite a bit too. what a trade, i think Det is a little worst than the day before. they lost a very good pitcher. however, looking in the central division, they are still favorites. the sox is gaining ground rather quickly. Red Sox are putting together a very strong team. they have to be favorites now coming out of the east. damn, good trading, it must be nice to have the prospects to do that. ....... freaking KW! Dodger looks to be the favorite coming out of the NL.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Maybe he can join Sale in the competition for most "erudite" post game interviews oh man, can you see the commercial appeal for that. using top college words in the interview. it will be great.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) Going off of Jimmy's under slot idea, without knowing who the injured pitchers are going to be, I see the Sox as a prime candidate to draft the injured pitcher under slot a la Hoffman/Fedde/Giolito. It seems to be a great financial risk diversification process despite the looming the injury. oh, another great idea. someone like Hoffman of the '15 class.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) Let's call it even on the Beckham trade then. that was a surprise.
  6. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) There were signs of Hector's tiring at the end too. He peaked in August, and was having some nice outings. At his price, I think we should want to see what he can do this year as a 5, but yes, move Danks if possible, and bring in another arm on a short-term deal. then it goes back to Edinson -Pit-sp. 2 yrs, 10 mil per.
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) If he's the super utility guy that Marcus might have been, I have no problems with Ackley. Not as a starter, though. Doubt he'd like that. maybe it is me and my stubbornness, but i still see him as a starter. granted lets see how he does.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) Both of those would be pretty bad ideas. Can't stay healthy and / or don't look like near the players they once were. Both would be downgrades over our current 4 / 5, imo. really i didn't know that. even Anderson. damn.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Two of our top prospects are starting pitching prospects (arguably 3 of our top 5 or 6 guys if you look at Rodon / Montas / Danish). I think if we add another starter it will be because we are moving Danks and will use Noesi as a bridge until some of the other guys are more ready. I would be stunned if we went anything past 1-2 years on a pitcher given what we have in our stable. thank you. you put the words i was trying to think off. that is way i am saying about stagger the salary contracts. with that said the sox system really need more positional players.
  10. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) If they add another starting pitcher, it will probably be a guy coming an injury/bad season. I think most of of their remaining resources will be left to upgrade LF and hopefully 3B. Josh Johnson, Brett Anderson. i hope i got the names spelled right.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) The Astros are the most sabermetric organization in baseball. If their analysis isn't 100% sabermetric, it is very close. It would be a tough match with White Sox prospects. This would probably have to be a 3 way, maybe the 3 way Hahn was refering to last summer. ahhh i thought he meant it in another way. oops.
  12. to the sox hound, i will miss you on the southside. i had a whole of crazy ideas for a great commercial i was going to send to Hahn. just don't catch no fleas out west. best of luck in your career. sox fan.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) I didn't pay much attention to Samardzija when he was on the Northside, but he is incredibly likable in interviews. Smart, insightful guy. a player with personality. the kind of players the sox need.
  14. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) It was steep but not even close to as steep as what the A's paid the Cubs to get Samardzija. I think if the A's really would've wanted Anderson or Rodon in the deal, Hahn would've balked and looked elsewhere. I think this trade is win for the Sox on so many fronts. It makes them much more competitive this year for starters. If Samardzija does well here and likes it, it could help entice him to sign long term with the Sox even though I don't think the Sox will get much of a discount. If he signs elsewhere the Sox will take the draft pick for him. Worst case if they stink this year, then they can move him in July and get some prospects for him. i like it. do not get me wrong, what you wrote i like. i am looking at if JS balks at the QD, and b/c of the FA SP next yr, sure let him come back again on a 1 yr QD. if not, then sign a contract with the sox and if not, sign elsewhere. there is still some strong pitchers next yr.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) I would agree. I think their chances are less but they are still talented. It will depend how they make up the Shields deficit. He was a big part of it. good point. however the way things are going, shields may resign, unless that ship sailed.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) No...one more acceptable than the other given his price and the fact pattern that you are talking about a potential 5th starter. Or at least more acceptable. I think far more pressing concerns are our team defense. The problem in these circumstances is these are guys we have penciled in at 4 and 5. Noesi also did show some signs of progress vs. Danks. i agree, but that is the hand the sox are dealt with. they have to make the best of it. also remember Noesi wasn't even on the team. he was acquire on waivers. the sox still need to fill those holes. then when that is done. maybe not this yr, but then the sox can address the defense aspect of this team.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) All seems quiet for now. many thanks .
  18. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) I think Hahn made a great move getting Samardzija for what he had to give up. That being said I'm just looking at this as a 1 year rental for the time being. I think Samardzija as much as he loves the city and all, first and foremost wants to get paid top dollar. MLB is the only sport without a salary cap and players seem to take every advantage of it. I'm not trying to p!ss on anyone's parade here but this guy has said for a while now he intends to test the UFA market and I believe he will do just that. Not confident he'll be in a Sox uni in 2016 but I trust Hahn in making this team competitive the next few years with or without Samardzija. the cost to get this trade done was steep. however even if its for 1 yr, QD him and lets see what the future looks at. i just want to have the sox regain their strut, being the best in chi.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:41 PM) ok, I'll be looking for that. damn, sox doesn't have the prospects to get it done.
  20. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) Perhaps I didn't articulate my thought clearly. What I meant was that this team needs to fill the hole in LF with someone better than Ackley. I agree that Viciedo is not acceptable either. If they move Viciedo, they don't have to move him for a left fielder, as someone else just pointed out. However, if the guy that they acquire is not a significant upgrade in left, then I'd just as soon that they trade him, and his $4 million salary for low cost, prospects for the future. They then have a roster spot open for that needed left fielder, and a little extra money to spend on him. that is my point. only Sea wants to play, if Sea says no to the prospects, DV will not get traded. unless if its for Ackley.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Unless they do something big, they are going to take a huge hit next season. the way KC is addressing their additions this offseason, you better believe it.
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Ravelo would have helped the Sox in a year or two at the most. LaRoche gone after 2016. Ravelo was ticketed for AAA this year and probably major league ready in 2016. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a solid big league career. I still like the trade, just wish we could have kept him. Do we get two draft picks if Shark goes away? One from Oakland and one compensation pick? not if he doesn't improve in his hitting.
  23. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:25 PM) There are only so many roster spots. If the player they acquire cannot be a productive addition to that roster, I'd rather have some minor league prospects. I just don't see Ackley as a guy who helps this team improve the roster. i will admit that i am sooo blinded in seeing DV gone, that sometimes i can't see straight. but Ackley is a last resort kind of player for the sox to get if it mean DV being gone. minor leaguers, the sox don't have any that can fill that bill better than DV.
  24. any news coming at, no tweets, rumors??
  25. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) Good point, and I agree. Thanks i will like to add, if Sea doesn't want to go that route, then the sox have nothing.
