  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:41 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2014...prospects-chat/ BA had a chat on the South Atlantic league top 20. Below are the relevant excerpts: a great catch on the interview. do you or anyone think that Trey will have enuf power to be a first baseman?
  2. another pitcher I like and I am not going to say a cooper project is Andrew Bailey, right handed rp. he should be coming to an end of his rehab a buy low investment.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:30 AM) He would be great but also a lot of money. If we were closer to being a playoff team I would be all for it. But if Hahn wants to go all in and they think we can contend I am all for it on mlb rumor page, they have a list of the 2016 free agents. based on that list I would not mind the sox investing in miller and have him around in case. this is a great opportunity to get a really good pitcher.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Lots of talk lately about various stats, and whether or not the small samples we've seen of the rookies and prospects means anything. And over the years, people often ask the FutureSox folks how we evaluate or rank prospects. This is how. It's all laid out there for everyone now. Any thoughts? Anyone out there a purist about a certain way of evaluating talent? Would you balance things differently than we lay out in that post? your ratings of the sox systems is very good and pretty darn close to those that the so called professional do. keep up the good work
  5. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Left-Handed Relievers Joe Beimel (38) Craig Breslow (34) – $4MM club option with a $100K buyout Sean Burnett (32) – $4.5MM club/vesting option with a $500K buyout Phil Coke (32) Neal Cotts (35) Scott Downs (39) Zach Duke (32) Tom Gorzelanny (32) Andrew Miller (30) Franklin Morales (29) Joe Thatcher (33) Cotts! Cotts! Cotts! We must retain at least one member of the '05 team on the roster for all time. am I the only one who is really gung ho on Miller?
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Those roster requirements aren't necessary until after the postseason is over. If they wanted to speed up the process, they could certainly DFA a few of these guys, but there's no rush for that. do you or anyone else think that the sox will cut their ties on Mitchell and Thompson?
  7. I wonder if Kendrys Morales would be a good fit. yeah I know who is agent is and last yr was a terrible yr for him stat wise. but I think he will come in ready for the season to performed if the salary is right. even in a 1 yr contract to rebuild his value.
  8. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) Absolutely not. If the Sox can get into the post season those in the draft order choir wood be happy. The band gets singing when it's a chance to get a high draft pick and finish with an aweful record as opposed to getting a middle of the road pick with a mediocre record. If we could pick 30th every year, that's the preference. If it's between picking 3rd or picking 16th... At that point I'm rooting for losses. There's a difference between being rational and being a complete Debbie Downer imbecile! nice post, and very true. I guess I am one of those draft order choir boys who love the draft. however the sox was not going to contend, even though they tried hard to make me out a liar, but the team is rebuilding. with the process rebuilding, the system is lacking prospects. so yes, I want draft picks to be able to supplant the system. with the signing of Abreu, that change the whole time table. as I said way in the beginning of the season, sox may compete next yr. look at the team, those holes can be filled with some smart moves. I would be extremely happy if the sox would not pick in the top 10 or even in the top 20, pick 30 is an ideal number.
  9. this is the 40 man roster as I see it, via espn roster. 1. Chris Sale 2. Jose Quintana 3. John Danks 4. Hector Noesi 5. Scott Carroll 6. Scott Snodgress 7. Chris Bassitt 8. Matt Lindstrom 9. Ronald Belisario 10. Maikel Cleto 11 Eric Surkamp 12. Jake Petricka 13. Zach Putnam 14. Daniel Webb 15. Andre Rienzo 16. Javy Guerra 17. Erik Johnson 18. Taylor Thompson 19. Frank De Los Santos (release) 20. Raul Fernandez 21. Tyler Flowers 22. Adrian Nieto 23. Josh Phegley 24. Jose Abreu 25. Matt Davidson 26. Leury Garcia 27. Conor Gillaspie 27. Paul Konerko (retired) 29. Alexei Ramirez 30. Carlos Sanchez 31. Marcus Semien 32. Andy Wilkins 33. Jordan Danks 34. Adam Eaton 35. Avisail Garcia 36. Jared Mitchell 37. Moises Sierra 37. Michael Taylor 39. Trayce Thompson 40. Dayan Viciedo Nate Jones Disabled List 60-day DL Felipe Paulino Disabled List 60-day DL I think I may have made a mistake or 2 so if any want to correct me, pls feel free. ps, if anyone can tell me how to make a strike through, it would help
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) I said it before the trading started, and will say it again. Dayan Viciedo will not be a White Sox next year. hey I am with you on this. I would greatly love the idea of no DV. now for the real question are you saying that a trade may happen.
  11. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) I happen to like all of those guys, but I would add Kyle Tucker to that list. hmmm interesting, I must read up on him. on a side note, this is a interest list until draft day which is next yr.

    The Pet Thread

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) Yeah, for as much as it sucks losing a dog, or a pet in general I guess, not having one after having one your whole life is really s***ty as well. I think these last 5 months, and actually it's been EXACTLY 5 months now since our dog passed, may be the longest I've ever gone without a dog in my life. I was born w/ a dog in the family already. Whenever my brother comes over, he always brings his golden and I love having her over. She absolutely will not stop squealing with excitement when I say hi to her because she knows I will play with her all day if she wanted to. Very much looking forward to that stage of our new puppy once we get her house broken. the one thing I love about dogs is they all have a personality.
  13. Help needed, isn't this the time that the sox need to create room on the 40 man roster? where can I find the list of the sox 40 man roster?
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 03:23 AM) I wouldn't give him 4 years at his age. I'd rather have Bassitt hold a spot until Rodon is ready. Sox need to think bullpen a lot more than starting pitching. I was never a fan of shields. so in all honesty I really can't gage on not wanting him on the sox. is it age? salary? yrs?
  15. Maybe I am being silly with me being hard headed. the only way I would get Ethier or Crawford if the dodgers threw in a prospect. a certified prospect who may developed into a major leaguer. the dodgers need to create room in the outfield. how much will they pay to get that done?

    Asian Players

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 03:06 AM) will he be higher or lower priced than tanaka? Either way, the Sox are probably going to be outbid by the Yankees or Red Sox or even Dodgers. way lower then Tanaka.
  17. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 03:08 AM) I've seen talk in other threads about going after him since he is a free agent. Here a free the reasons I'd pass: 1. He is almost 33. Best years are behind him. 2. He will command probably $16-18 mill per year over 4 years. This ties in to point 1. 3. 'Big Games' James as he is called has almost a 5.00 ERA the playoffs not including this year. Is this an example of small sample size, wearing down over the course of a season or bring the American version of Javier Vazquez? And to think I am a aging this even though he is cousins with the greatest center fielder in White Sox history. Bob wasn't there a time when pitchers were still considered valuable in the 30's?
  18. here is a question that has been bothering me, would the sox use Zach Putnam or Jake Petricka as closer next yr? do you think they will go outside the team and look in the free agent market? is there an option in the minors that may surprise everyone?

QUOTE (gosox41 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) I wouldn't bother with him. Let some other team overpay to put him on the FL for most of the length of the contract. He will break down with that much of a workload. The question is when. Bob a discussion can be made that all pitchers runs the risk of an arm injury. however I am with you and others who says no. my reason is they are overused in japan.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 02:49 AM) One thing that annoys me and I think we saw it twice on Sunday - the Sox have an inordinate number of runners thrown out at home on infield grounders. it's like they have to go every time. I don't know if that's Ventura or not,but it needs to stop. Ventura is a terrible manager except 1 aspect: he's a house-horse for Williams and Hahn. And that's probably just what they want until the Sox are ready to win (which likely won't be next year with 3B, LF, DH and pitchers left to fill). re, the base running errors, 1. that is the sox wanting to be aggressive on the base path. 2. I think its the 3b coach that does the signals for stealing.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:21 AM) Some of the low revenue teams + the Cardinals for some reason are granted extra picks after the comp round as "Competitive Balance Picks" and those picks can be traded. many thanks, so mlb teams can not trade regular rounds then.
  22. QUOTE (lord chas @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 11:54 PM) Couldn't hack it there either as a player he was great, I am sure as a person he is nice. maybe he should have had more time in the minors to really learned his craft.
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:10 AM) This is where I'm at. There just aren't a lot of "real" Sox fans. As far as bandwagon/fair weather, most fan bases are like that. Win and more people show up, lose and attendance dwindles. It's not anything that only Sox fans do. When they are good, you get the bandwagoners/casual fans out. Even so, IMO most "casual" baseball fans are Cubs fans anyway. There aren't a ton to pull from. In the mean time, you only get the hard core fans out, and there simply aren't enough of them to fill up a park for 81 games. And obviously they'll go to more games when they are good, so that makes attendance spike even more. while I respect you and those who replied, I disagree. the reason is baseball as a whole will price themselves out of the hard core fans. the children and young adults. I remember bill veeck said he wanted to have the sox for the family environment. Didn't JR also said he was a baseball fan from the time his family took him to see baseball games. with local tv being available and the price of going to the game is sooo darn much, why go to the game? I was a season thicket holder for 7 yrs until I moved in 96. I had 5 thickets.
  24. I have a question, with what happen last yr with Tanaka and whether he is 100 %. Should the sox invest in Kenta Maeda esp with knowledge that has thrown a lot of pitches. what was it that some site said he threw?
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 11:25 PM) Oh Buddy. I like Montas a lot too, but some of the stuff Bell says about certain prospects is outlandishly positive. yeah I agree. I am for the sox to have great prospects knocking on the door so to speak. I would be even happier for an occasional player to show promise as a certified major leaguer. to realistically imply that in all the minor teams the sox have, there are a possible of what, 8 players ready to take the next step.
