QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) Agreed. And who cares! Great! We've got someone for basically the league minimum who offensively is top 5 at his position against 74% of the baseball pitchers. re conors I was looking at his monthly splits and I am seeing a horrible aug and sept.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 12:08 AM) TYVM! I will rate your profile 5 stars! December will be fun. well TUC, I hope you rethink your decision to stop writing. yeah I have read your post, it was like reading a classic novel like war and peace, but crap, about 90% of the time I learned something new, btw I do like your opinions. yeah it might stirs things up and then some one will post something which I may not have known. besides, I get really envious of your ability and talent at composition and by reading my crap you can tell ...... well you can end that thought. I think the whole offseason will be great with a lot of news esp in fa signing. first up is the int'l fa with Tomas being front and center. peace and have a great time.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) you are right. lets look at the time of the trade, use those stats and opinions of poster then. I for one never liked the trade, I always thought pitchers would have a higher rtn. I thought Hahn was trying to address 2 needs, a third baseman and a player who has power. jumping on the bandwagon after the fact is what I am seeing. how many posters thought it was a good trade at that time? yeah he is 23 lets see what happens next season. here is another interesting thought. I really don't know if this has been posted. but as a team, how many blown saves has the white sox has >>>> 20 as of today where does the white sox rank with blown saves in mlb >>>>>>> 9 as of today. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/p...nded/order/true

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) [/b] This is what everyone asked for. Flipping out about it after 2 or 3 days is just silly, when most were asking for 2-3 years of this. but on the flip side, this kind of posting is what helps keep good discussion going. plus I am learning more about stats.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 05:31 AM) Oh s***! Look! Another thread where Ventura is thrashed for every little thing that goes wrong! Hurry, call the whaaambulance before the toddlers fudge their Huggies, again. I'm not saying Robin is a good or bad manager and I don't believe that can be determined until he is given a decent team to actually manage. What the f*** did Sox fans expect from the manager of a rebuilding baseball club? I admit, Robin makes some bad calls but good grief all managers do sometimes. The Sox have far more pressing issues than Robin. oh man, my head is pounding and laughing is not helping. funny ....... a great post.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) I know the dogs are rabid for John Danks, but I am not really willing to just give him away for a loss at this point, unless it gets us something that makes a lot of sense. I think we are seeing a tired John Danks in this second half, and I say that from his mechanics looking awful for about the past two months, combined with this being the first time since 2010 he has been over 180 IP. I think next year he will around a league average pitcher. I think we are also seeing come conditioning breakdowns from Noesi for the same reason. I think the workload is wearing on him now, but will payoff next year. this is a very very good post. well reasoned, I agree with the idea of the workload and tired arms for Noesi. I am sure he loves being in that position considering how the sox got him. what a great success story. I bet he is going to train extra hard in the offseason. with Danks, I hate to say it this way, but of course he may be a little tired. how many innings pitch will he have by season end? ss2k5, very good.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 03:49 AM) Rock is right. There's no way Sox scouts could have known Davidson was going to have a career worst year in 2014. They are scouts, not fortune tellers. If the scouts are at fault then so should the people that hired them. Draft picks turn into busts and so do traded prospects. That does not mean Davidson's career is over, just means he has work to do and at 23 there's no reason to give up on him. I really don't see what all the hind sight is about. I know Reed would have helped close games out but the Sox have had problems in the 7,8, and 9th innings so Reed could have only helped so much. Besides, Reed wouldn't have made this rebuilding team a contender anyway so I really don't see the point. you are right. lets look at the time of the trade, use those stats and opinions of poster then.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) There's no way way in hell we'd win the bidding for Cueto. Someone will pay more than we can pay. I know I'm a buzzkill but man it's true. It's not even plausible. I've spent a big portion of my life steeling myself from being let down, and maybe I've paid for it emotionally and I don't have as much fun as I could. Is it worth it to sacrifice the highs to avoid the lows? Sure doesn't sound like it when you put it THAT way. I am with ya, the only thing I would like to add is "what will be the real ransom" to get him.

greg, this season, no matter how many time people will say this is a rebuilding yr. for the yr to go and lose is very dangerous. think about the Black Sox and the scandal. they, as a team will go out and try to win. We, as fans, wish differently. again let look to see who normally post about the loosing, not many posters. I am sure they want the best, maybe to wind and build for next yr or for what ever reason. only, again a handful, are looking at trying to max this season. to get a better draft. believe you me when I say I am just a big a fan of the sox since 1968. (Damn I am old) but I want the rebuild to go fast. I have mention this before, the sox fan will not wait forever. we, will b**** and moan until a winning team is there. we are not sCrubs fans. you know greg we have been here forever, but I am little offended. I am a fan, but this season is a lost. that does not I am not a fan, I want to improve our position in the draft, to make the rebuild go faster. then again I am a little drunk. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) It certainly is odd to remember to root for the Red Sox, Astros, AND Cubs. oh man, I laugh at this. maybe I am too darn tired, but I really needed a laugh. I never took a look at it this way. me, rooting for the sCrubs to win. the irony. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 04:42 AM) Keep in mind everyone that the amateur season does not start til mid February and things are bound to change. More players are bound to emerge so don't look too much into things right now. Its fun getting to know names but speculating on heir draft positions is pointless for the moment. yeah and I agree, that is why I was saying without any names that I would love to see how things develop. esp when unknown prospects will start making a name for themselves. I am with you on being informed on prospects.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Pitching, pitching and more pitching, at least for the draft. We will acquire the bats we need in FA, Hahn has said that we will participate in FAs this offseason. yeah I am with you on this, however the 2015 draft does not have the pitching studs as 2014 draft. outside the top 3 college arms, I really don't see any exciting hs pitchers. this is base on today observation. the hs'ers that will be avail, appears to be positional players in the top 15. the second tier of pitchers are mostly college. as it looks there may be some exciting arms avail in the 2 rd. but I would like to see how this plays out as the yr come to a close.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) With last night's win.... The Sox still have the 9th pick, are 10.5 GB of the #1 pick, are 5 GB of the #5 pick, and are only 1.5 games ahead of the Reds/Padres for a protected pick. for me, I am having fun, fun to make a uneventful season easy to deal with. peace -

for me, I don't think that the sox brass is going to look to invest 25 - 30 mil for 1 player. I think that they may think 25 mil can be put to use on 2 players with some left over. that is just me taking this for a walk. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) No, not everyone would what do you think, sp or rp is the most dire need? lets just discuss pitching for now. ok -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 04:54 AM) The UCL is in the elbow and that's where the concern is over Aiken. The shoulder is a completely different ball game and if memory serves, that's labrum territory from what I recall from Mike Sirotka. I think the Jays are still stinking over that trade. The board member that goes by the name of PTAC would be the person to ask as he seems to know ALOT about things of this nature. Dude knows his s***! I'm hoping he will weigh in at some point about Aiken's UCL and enlighten us all. I screwed up, I really meant the elbow. sorry. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 12:30 AM) Here ya go. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/2015...ree-agents.html oops wrong list, minor league free agents or those who may be free agents for the rule 5 list.
-
this is totally unrelated to what was being discuss but I wanted to post this. I was reading cbs sports and they have the top list of players since the all star game. I am not a stat guy so I will let them explain this. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/playerrankings
-
does anyone have a list for player for the 2014-2015 MLFA or idea for the sox?
-
this just goes to prove about investing in a really good pitcher|s| for the pen. however I don't know if the sox should look at a pitcher who was giver a QO.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) Just because I love to look at them, Jose Abreu's half splits: 1st half: .292/.342/.630/.972 2nd half: .374/.451/.554 /1.005 Jose Abreu also 21 HRs on the road and 14 at home. Jesus H Christ!!! this is a 1 of a lifetime player.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) here is a question, does anyone like it if the sox sign him or not I really am confuse as to sign him or not. I would really love to see what people opinions are. thinking about Tomas and seeing the DV experiment, does anyone think his overall hitting is good to above good to take the risk? I am not taking about the power numbers.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) The ligament itself is replaced. If all of his ligaments and tendons are that small, you'd have a problem, but until you know that for sure, you have to assume surgery would be successful. I don't know that there's any actual risk involved immediately either. I know this is stupid, but I just got this vision of the 6 million day man theme song. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) Neither Aiken or the Astros can prove the smaller UCL will or will not hold up, only time will tell the tale on that. As far as a larger UCL being detrimental to mechanics, that's the Astros guessing in an effort to support their half of the issue. In all the stuff I've read about this never once has another situation like this been brought up which makes this particular situation unique. Its a first so there's no way for the Astros to know if a larger UCL will affect Aiken's mechanics. The Astros are making a huge assumption in an effort to save millions. really, I would have sworn that there has to be another situation like this. I learn something new. thanks let me ask this question, wouldn't it seem as if there was surgery, wouldn't the doctors do something like to improve the shoulder by making it thicker or something? -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Thank you and you bring a very good point about Aiken's age. He's good enough and young enough to have the TJ surgery ( if needed) and still make an MLB debut at a relatively young age depending on his progress and how old he was at the time of surgery. A kid that throws a mid 90's fastball, a plus curve ball and plus control could be more than worth the risk. thanks, but as the old cliché goes, you cannot teach speed. there are several up and coning young hs'ers that throws hard. they are very intriguing, but again, it is a gamble. if the sox had a stack systems, then sure, take the gamble. but the systems need working, healthy players now. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) That's how Billy Wagner learned to pitch lefty. He is a righty but fractured his right arm before a baseball season so he learned to throw lefty and was better at it so he stuck with it. thanks for that info. I didn't know that..... wow, and he threw heat as well
