  1. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) Nooooo way the O's pick up their portion of that though. Hes owed what, 17 mill? He Wil get bought out at then re-signed for cheaper. interesting, I like it.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) Sox are really trying their hardest to just f*** this season up even more by winning these pointless games. Sox are now tied for the #10 pick. They win the tiebreaker with the Reds, however, because the Marlins are the 12th spot and the Marlins had a worse record last season, THEY win the tiebreaker over the Sox if they would become tied for the 11th pick......in conclusion.... 6 GB of the Twins for the #5 pick 4 GB of the Red Sox for the #6 pick 3.5 GB of the Astros/Cubs for the #7/#8 pick 1 GB of the Phillies for the #9 pick 0.5 games ahead of the Reds for the #11 pick 2 games ahead of the Marlins for a protected pick. whew..... I just thought the sox were just trying to piss me off.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) Here's the question I must ask to those who blast Addison and still like Davidson. Simple question: If right now you could trade Davidson for Reed, would you make the trade? If they would agree to the deal right now to reverse last year's trade. I would trade Davidson for Reed right now and take my chances opening next season with Reed in the closer role. hey greg, let me flip this on you, would you have made the reed for Davidson trade? the first initial trade. were you in favor of the trade?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Equally interesting, the Arizona Diamondbacks also have 20 blown saves on the season. Balta, I hope you don't mind me using your post for this. here is another interesting thought. Reed has 31 saves and with 8 blown saves. but as a team they have 20 blown saves. either way, reed has done ok.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) At some point you need innings eaters and he could fit that bill, especially with some of the injuries. Haren is a FA as well so he could slide in. They have had injury issues in back end of rotation and they clearly need to clean up the clubhouse a bit. Right now there are too many issues internally and a lot of it would appear to be tied to the logjam of outfielders and players not comfortable/happy in their current roles. I honestly don't know what else Dodgers could do? Danks seems more attractive then others but when giving up expensive players with big contracts you can't expect much in return. At least in this case, we get a solid play. Hell, if it is Ethier, you get a guy with a good OPS + every year but this year. Is he done, could be, but it could also be largely driven by his attitude issues. That said, you got to manage the personality. I don't know, maybe they'd rather have Crawford who is more of an injury risk. Either way, we need outfielders and left handed bats and both of these guys, while extremely overpaid, have a shot at still being productive players and filling needs. I agree in the most part, a couple of months ago I was trying to factor this trade with the dodgers. first the sox trade for 1 of their outfielders with a big contract for danks. dodgers add salary. the problems with this danks contracts has 2 yrs left, how many more yrs and salary will be on the sox to eat? this is all I said before, second, the dodgers need to add prospect or 2 to offset that additional salary for those yrs. the dodgers are in a big need to shed salary, now that kemp has regain his hitting. sorry about the late replying, I was at work before. now I am home.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) This is how I see it: Here's what's working against Justin Morneau -He's 34 years old -He'd have to be traded for -He's at his highest value in 6 seasons -He's been really bad in 3 of the past 4 season -He only plays 1B, limiting bench versatility -He's one blow to the head away from being done forever and ever Here's what's working for Justin Morneau -He's left handed -He's been good this year Frankly, even knowing how poor he's been in the majors, I'd rather give Andy Wilkins a shot as opposed to trading for Justin Morneau. Trading for a 1B right now is just not ideal, no matter the cost. I am with you, it is too much of a risk.
  7. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) Id take markakis. I'm assuming he doesn't make anywhere near as much money. he has a mutual option so I will probably scratch that.
  8. QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) That's fair. I think he's probably better than mediocre though. but again, using the resources will be a waste. there are probably other options in the fa market that may be a good option. also trades for a #4-5 pitcher until Rodon can be inserted.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 07:52 AM) yeah and I agree, that is why I was saying without any names that I would love to see how things develop. esp when unknown prospects will start making a name for themselves. I am with you on being informed on prospects. a renewed mock draft sept 22, http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 06:07 PM) I still see a potential matchup with Dodgers for one of their outfielders + cash coming to the Sox. for my part that will be a bad trade. what are the sox going for Crawford or Ethier? their contract is what in yrs and salary. there is no way that will be cost effective, even if the dodger help with the salary. the sox will be not to swift if that is all they want, they could be asking for a prospects as well.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) Yeah, he looks much cleaner now. Hopefully this carries over to next year. http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/9/23/6832...h-seasons-again does anyone remember a game that he went back out to the bullpen to work on his delivery or something. the problem is I can't remember if it was during his start or not. I remember hawk making a mention of it. there he is working with a coach on his delivery. that is what saw and that made me more of a fan of him. he is refusing to give up..
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Probably the best example out there showing the team hasn't quit, which means he is still getting through to a team, even when they have no reason to be playing hard. you are right, this is the best double edge sword possible. the sox, manager, players and prospects playing the best and are giving its best. if its any team who may be trying to tank, would have did a better call to call up prospect who will not be a factor. in addition the daily lineup would not again be a factor. now the negative side is lousy ground for a higher draft pick. would the sox have gain enuf ground to be a top 5 pick. but a 6-10 would be a nice set of prospects to help the rebuild.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) The Mariners name always comes up, and he was connected to a possible trade before Ackley emerged as a semi-regular in LF, although he's also been a pretty big disappointment overall, along with Smoak and Montero. They're not getting enough from CF (when Saunders was out and Jones was playing), SS...Kendrys Morales and Hart/Morrison have been disappointments for most of the season as well. Zunino has some pop for a catcher, but a very low BA and OBP. with the mariners, the trade talk according to some site were real. I was reading a rumors, wish I remember which, had the trade being close. the problem was the prospects the mariners had to give up. of course the only ones who would know are the players in the trade talk. so all the other rumors are that rumors.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) Or he just needs to be moved in general. Dayan is bad at baseball. and I wonder who will pay to get him. the return for the trade. with a weak draft of players with limited power, I wonder if there will be a team willing?
  15. QUOTE (jhonnydanks @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) I'd love to see Span here. yeah, according to his profile he is consider the premier base stealer. so will the Nat'l give him a QO? what will he salary request be?
  16. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Nava. Has had a solid 2nd half of season. he can also play 1st base as well. Would come cheap. But I don't think he can play center he is interesting, I really wonder if he can handle the outfield on a full time basis. his power numbers may not justified being a full time 1b especially if he can't recoop what he was 2 yrs ago.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 04:23 AM) But we all saw how Boras had no or little leverage with Stephen Drew and Morales this past season...and the prior offseason. Morales needs to sign quickly and come to spring training ready to play or he will be out of baseball entirely. except that was last yr and a price tag of a "comp pick" came with it. when does any of borAss clients has sign early? this offseason, with the lack of offensive hitting players, I expect it to be way different.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) Which means Kendrys Morales, with a full offseason and spring training, becomes one of the five or so likeliest options for the Sox. I'd actually rather have Billy Butler, despite his RHedness. ding ding ding this is what I was waiting for. I was going to start on this in the offseason. my problem is his agent.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) If Martinez leaves Detroit, I think Seattle is the top desination for making sense and wanting to win now. while I agree, I bet its going to be who offers him the most money. that is why I highly doubt the sox will be there. don't get me wrong, if JR says go for it, he will pay the money. I just don't think it will happen.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 03:23 AM) My following responses are made with the caveat I don't care about Jerry's pocketbook, just the fact if the Sox sign a player to a multi year deal and he is a bust, the fact we can't get rid of him will annoy me to no end. Aoki: No. Please God no. Mr Slappy will be so hated on this board all season. Shields: No, because it'll take a 5-6 year deal and there's a huge risk he could flop at any time. Now if he'd go for 2-3 years, sure. He seems awfully durable and is still pretty good. Butler: If he is willing to admit he's a huge question mark and take a 2-3 year Keppinger type deal, fine. Playing KC 19 times means he'd get 76 at bats against the Royals which could help the batting average and production since he'd want to beat his old team's ass. V-Mart: Not gonna happen but would be a nice signee for 1-3 years. Again, somebody will probably give him a 5-6 year deal and the Adam Dunn deal has made those unpopular on the south side. I was reading Toronto put Buehrle on waivers this season. How bout a trade where they pay 3/4 of his contract and we send them a minor league stiff and bring back Mark? Then we could move one of the other lefties to the bullpen. Or Rodon could start his career in the bullpen for a year. I understand what you are saying, but let me ask this question, who will be the leadoff players if eaton misses games next yr.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 02:57 AM) The simple response is that he has to be a lot better than this. He's being paid like a #3 starter and performed like a fringe #5 this season. There's nothing that can get around that. We need him to pitch like a #3, he's paid like it. yes he is paid very well. he signed the contract and 1/2 yr later he got hurt. last yr was recovery time as is much of the beginning of this yr. injury danks had was not his fault and he got lucky with the contract. some players take a longer time to recover. next yr, for me will be the telling yr for him.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 01:04 AM) Worth noting...Micah Johnson also profiles as a potential leadoff hitter and has a good chance of arriving next year. That said, Micah may have some injury issues too. micah is a nice option but I was looking for someone who is already establish. btw on the different note, Balta by any chance do you know which post it was that we were discussing Danks and his contract???
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 11:17 PM) Aoki, Shields, Butler or V-Mart. The more I've been watching Aoki recently, the more I like him. He has an unorthodox approach, has cut down his K rate dramatically as he dealt with the transition from NL to AL....at the plate, the defense has no idea where to play him as he hits to all fields equally well, he's just a nice/solid glue or complimentary player that does all the little things right, another version of Iguchi. Statistically, he's been on fire the last month or so, so my having watched him a lot in the middle of a hot streak is skewing my viewpoint a bit, but he's just been the most dangerous hitter for the Royals. At any rate, that would be quite a nice off-season, and weaken two division foes. The problem is that I just don't see V-Mart until/unless we're in win now/all in mode, and that's not really setting up for 2015 without also adding another starter, two pieces in the bullpen (at least) and fixing the LF situation. Another solution is simply to sign Aoki and Shields, and DH Viciedo. Of course, if you cut Viciedo's $5ish million, that gives you a lot more flexibility to sign Martinez. (Unfortunately, the Martinez we could really use is JD Martinez, in terms of price range). I been mentioning him for a while. I do not trust eaton on being healthy and the sox need a good leadoff players. now don't get me wrong, as a player I really like eaton.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 04:12 AM) Don't trip hommie. Just because one person can't seem to get through your posts doesn't mean others do not benefit from them. Even if the entire world overlooked your writing, it's still a moot point. This site is here as a forum for your expressions. If you enjoy having that outlet, then I'd encourage you to keep doing what improves the quality of your life. My choice here is to utilize the space to be light hearted, idiotic, witty, sincere and at times analytical. Most of the times thou, it's just idiocy. Which is absolutely needed in my life. Kids, wife, business, house payments, emotions, family, friends, clients, obligations... Yea. There's a definite need in my life, for a place like this, where I can poop on s***. Again, I'd encourage you to continue exploring your passions and may also suggest you lighten up a bit? Sorry you took my idiocy in a personal way. It was intended to make myself and others laugh. At the time I wrote it, I believe my wife had just snapped at me for feeding the baby and giving her a kiss on the cheek. Yes, postpartum is a challenge and Soxtalk just happens to be the small corner in my small universe where I can be the class clown. Bottom line: don't let an idiot discourage you. I am sorry.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Danks is at 180 innings this year after pitching 160 last year counting the minors. my initial response would be, and he is coming back an injury that required surgery. after rethinking I am still will say that. I remember early in this season he went back to the bullpen to work on something. I remember the tv announcer saying something or an other about how danks was not feeling comfortable. this is a lame excuse but I am going to use it, some players takes longer to rebound and yes he may have a tired arm or something. last lame excuse, how many other pitchers will not pitch that amount of innings in a season? yeah I tool wish his record would be better, but he gives the sox an arm that is good for 180+ innings a yr. esp in a rebuilding yr.
