Still Oakland couldn't keep him. Didn't he sign with the Giants? You're right though, a typical horses*** KW trade.

OMG, you'd never guess who I just met last night!!

Jerry was kinda a big dick (and man he's uglier, fatter, and SHORTER than I had ever imagined)...but B.J. was awesome! I got both of their autographs on my game ticket. Oh, and is B.J. ever S-E-X-Y!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm --DROOL-- What? You don't like short guys?? We don't all look like Jerry Krause. Who needs to be 6'6'' -
I always like Artis. That Kentucky team (ABA) with Artis, Dan Issel, and Louie Dampier was real fun to watch. My vote is yes. Does anybody know if there is an Basketball web site similar to Baseballreference.com or Baseballlibrary.com? A site with lifetime stats and such.

I've seen it not called just as often. Because the Giants got hosed on their last play, the officials were going to err on the side of caution. Pittsburgh needs to fix their pass defense, the officials need to get their acts (and asses) together and life goes on. Tennessee will be history next week. What I really want to know is will the Bears (my NFC team) rebound from the calamity that was 2002?

It was a terrible call. Nedney even admitted that he might take up acting after his football days are over.

You think Biddle is not the answer? What about Rauch and Wright? They are no answer either, this staff blows. Even Garland hasn't proved himself to be consistent in this league. Our entire staff is based on potential and nothing proven. We are in deep s*** and nobody seems to notice. I notice, believe me I notice. Of the group including Garland, Wright, Rauch and Biddle we need a minimum of three to be decent to good. If they all tank then we are swimming with KC and Det. It could be a very trying year. JR raised prices to take advantage of the All Star Game. If the team does poorly in 03 look for Montreal or Marlin style attendance figures in 04. The Sox need almost all of their young position players and pitchers to have break out years. That would be great but it's just not likely to happen.

My wife just asked me "what's so funny"? I didn't know what to say. Hope you get the mike zach.

I agree, I have long been underwhelmed by Colon but have held back saying so knowing how brutal these boards can be at times. He seems to me to be the classic underachiever. Some days his stuff is so overpowering it takes your breath away. Other times he's very ordinary. Maybe he is ready to have that breakout year, but I'm not ready to give up the farm for him. The fact is at this point in time Major League baseball is relatively pitching poor. Also, in addition to the weight Colon's mechanics are not the smoothest in the world. He's a strong as an Arabian horse but with his weight and his motion he is courting danger. Yes, I'd like to have him but not at any cost, and I would not assume that he definitely will be the long term ace we need to compliment Mark B. Oh well, I guess winning 20 games last year qualifies as a "breakout" year for Colon. Go get him if you can, but not at any cost.

Can you introduce me to your friend? The one in blue on the left.

Will someone please explain the Millwood trade to me? I know money is always a consideration in today's game but to get so little for him. I don't get it. The Atlanta GM is supposed to be one of the best. Right? I don't get it.

I wish they would throw the radar gun out and instead teach young kids how to pitch. Lots of guys win the in the big leagues without throwing in the high 90's. In my brief coaching experience some years ago we stressed mechanics and building arm and leg strength. They go together. Tom Seaver used to say he got his good fastball from strong leg drive. Yes, pitchers today throw harder than ever before, but who can pitch 10 or more complete games a year or 250 + innings? If teams didn't feel obligated to carry 11-12 pitchers then you could add a position player or two on the roster and have more flexibility to make moves late in a game. Don't get me wrong, I like power pitchers as much as anyone. Especially closers. (Come on Billy K!). I just feel there is way too much emphasis on the radar gun. Getting batters out is still the most important measurement of all.

The owners in concert, agree among themselves not to bid on FA's or to lowball the ones they do bid on. When Peter Ueberroth (sp?) was Commissioner in the mid and late 80's the owners were found guilty of collusion three different times. If they are doing this again I would think they would be much slicker about it, but with this group of owners you never know. Being rich does not always = being smart.

You can't complain though, both left the Sox never to do a thing. Ya, Doublem, we have him till after the 2006 season. Also, I don't see why everyone is blaming KW, Buerhle just doesn't want a deal. He's offering a very fair contract, one that would pay more then Sabathia and I think Zito or Mulder, two pitchers that are just as good as Buerhle, if not better. In todays world whether its on the mean streets of the inner city or the gilded offices of the corporate world every one wants respect and nobody wants to be openly "dissed". Buerhle took note of the backhand slap the Sox gave him in last years negotiations and now he is returning the favor. It is a calculated gamble on his part. If he suffers an injury or has a subpar year he loses out. If he continues to pitch the way he has then someday he gets the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and thumbs his nose at the Sox on his way out of town.

TAWMMY MADDOX BAYBEE!!! Don't ever count them Stillers aht! This is what I have to hang my hat on now that the Bears tanked so bad in 02.

Once upon a time, when Richard Nixon was President I also turned twenty one while going to ISU. Or should I say dear old ISU. Hey, I even got to see the pride of Benton, Illinois Doug Collins play a time or two. Anyway, I still don't remember all of my twenty first birthday, hope you remember yours and hope it was a really great day for you.

I hope you're right, the guy has a lot of raw talent. I don't want him to be another Chad Hermanson, a guy the Pirates thought a lot of but just couldn't quite get over the hump. They are both similar players.
-
Maybe because he didn't care for the way he was treated in negotiations last year?

I admit I don't know much about the latest Cuban defector, but the track record for Cuban pitchers ain't all that good. I mean you got El Duque and his half brother Livan but after that what? Am I missing somebody? Anybody remember Rene Ochoa and some of the other so called Cuban phenoms?
-
I agree. I've liked him since I saw him in Comerica with the Tigers. Very versatile guy and a good bat. He shouldn't be that expensive either.

Is their site down, or did I get banned? I'm unable to go there at the moment.

As I stated previously my little birdie tells me that Cotts has kicked it up a bit on the radar gun. It's rare to see a pitcher with that good a K/IP ratio to only have a heater in the high eighties. I think that Cotts has a shot at the ML. The other guy? Fugghetaboutit! It will be interesting to see if Valentine or Cotts do well in the long run. The Koch trade may take a while to evaluate properly.

I think this poster likes the cubs. If I'm wrong sorry.

First of all, let me add my congrats and thanks to jjav. Great work, bet you were taking notes like crazy. As far as the questions go, they were somewhere in the middle IMO, not all softballs but not as hard hitting as they might have been. I would have liked to have seen the "control freak" issue dealt with more. It was alluded to do with regard to the "clubhouse" question but then it disappeared. I agree with Cubkilla, I think some questioners were undoubtedly turned away. He says he wants a WS. Well go out and do it Kenny, you'll be like a conquering Roman General if you pull it off. Again thanks to jjav. I can usually get AM 1000 in the evening, but have always had trouble getting the Score.

That was Barry Berry funny!
