QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) I do not believe for a second that McCarthy is being offered for anything. ^^ Bmac is probably the closest to untouchable on our roster. He's dirt cheap and he will contribute for years to come.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Dell and get a gig of ram if you can (the more ram the better). Aside from that the mobile pentium is really nice, but if your not gonna really care about how heavy or thin it is, often times you can find better, more powerful machines for a little less money than those that are super thin. Just depends on your preference. Definately get a DVD player/burner in there and opt for a nice monitor. Depending on the useage you may be interested in spluring for an extra battery (some of them don't last long so if for osme reason you plan on using them often without having access to a plug its nice to have 2). They should pretty much all come with wireless, but if they don't make sure you get it (definately super super nice). Oh and with Dell take advantage of the warranty. Laptops fail more than desktops since everything is more compressed and fragile. Because of that its nice to know if something goes wrong they'll replace it. ^^^ I agree right on with everything. Get as much memory/RAM as possible. 1GB should be your goal if you're thinking about more then it will cost you. A DVD player is pretty much standard now with laptops. If I was buying one I would prefer a Dell, their customer service is pretty good. The only thing I hate about them is that their installing so much junk in them out of the box, it's like they come preloaded with adware. That's really with any computer manufacturer nowadays though. I would recommend to uninstall any program you know you definitley won't need. Or you can just make sure their not coming up on startup and disable some services u don't need, that's all after u get it though. Oh I almost forgot! If you have a chance to pick which anti-virus software comes with it pick McAfee. Nortons (Symantec) software usually comes buggy.

Tony G!! I would welcome Tony G back with us.

For those who bought a McCarthy Jersey

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) Actaully, I think it would be kinda cool to have a Bmac 41 jersey. Kind of like a Rowand 44 jersey(Rowand44, you still suck), or like Garland 52. Maybe even like a Borchard 25 jersey..... Only a few people will get that.... Would I be cool if I had a Koch 44? -
As good as he handled us in the playoffs weren't we pretty close to rocking him the last inning in both games? I consider him an upgrade over Elarton since he does know how to succeed with his junk.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Of course you're not wrong. Owens should be starting for Charlotte next year. If the Sox get lucky, he's ready to be an everyday player in 2007, perhaps replacing Podsednik. BTW Tony...I think that is the grossest sig on Soxtalk. YUCK :puke I never said he was wrong. I guess I meant to use what he said as an example about how others might overuse the whole coming off a championship season as an excuse to sign a lot of people instead of using the farm. I probably should have said that first... At the same time I didn't mean to sound like I thought Owens should be our starting CF either.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) I've met Garland a few times and each time he was a total dick and I wan't all fanboy on him. It was like a simple whatever you're doing keep it up man and he was a knob about it He had a good season good for him I don't know if you should take him personally. That's how he is, he's laid back and sometimes those guys might give the wrong vibe just because they don't say much. I've also met him a few times and both times he really didn't talk much.
-
Well JG will be back for one more season it's just about signing him long term. If he starts that I wanna test FA s*** I'm gonna be pissed. Just sign and stay with your boy MB and with a winning team damnit. Lol... We can't keep out bidding teams for our own players.

There's no relief for 'El Duque'

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Yeah, he earned his salary LAST YEAR. However, that 5 million or so would sure be nice to have for this year on players at a position where we actually need help. I agree he does have a high salary for a spot starter/long reliever but I would much rather have him than anyone in our farm system to do it. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I love Duque for his playoff contributions. However, it would be a huge transaction if we're able to clear his salary. He's making way too much money for the role he'll likely be in. Yes he does make money but his conrtribution last year vs boston alone was worth his salary. EDIT: If he contributes in the playoffs in 06 he will be well worth the money. -

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Uribe hit no worse hitting behind in the count as opposed to when he was hitting ahead in the count. So he hit in the .250s when hitting behind in the count as opposed to Gooch's .180. The problem is he rocks lefties but gets dominated by righties. You can't really count Gooch's numbers because he would take pitches just for Pods to take a look at the pitchers move and also let him steal. Then after pods does his thing then Gooch would sacrifice to move Pods over. Thats what made Gooch so good in that 2 spot. If Uribe isn't working out or our offense isn't getting it done in the 1st inning like last season Gooch needs to be move back. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Translation: No teams are interested in El Duque right now. Hopefully, he will show he's healthy and perform well in Spring Training so some team needing a starter will take on his $4.5 million contract. Although I am not thrilled at the idea about duque being in the pen I love having him. He can step up anytime to spot start incase any of our starters won't be able to make their starts. He has a good influence on Count. Also his playoff experience, this guy might not be that great during the season but we all f***ing know he has cold blood during the playoffs. I really want to keep him. -

I am pretty shocked but I really can't believe this just because he saved us vs Boston. Duque over Bmac?? That better be a f***ing joke. I hope this is just ozzie showing some respect to Duque. Counting him out before giving him a chance would probably insult Duque. As long as oz knows what really is going to happen or should happen I think he'll put Bmac in there. On a side note, am I the only one who thinks Uribe batting 2nd kind of sucks? I mean yes he showed good discipline late in the season but still... -
Like someone said already, Marte at his best can be one of the best left handed relievers in baseball. I would rather have someone that has proven they are good at one point than Munoz. Yes he was only with the ballclub for a little but that doesn't mean he should take Marte's spot. Only as a callup incase of an injury like Walker was last year. Speaking of him, Walker

Good to hear you came out ok goldy.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Or that neither has ever played a game in AAA. I love hearing about Young, Owens, and Sweeney, I am excited for all 3, but I personally think a team coming off a World Series title shouldnt relay on Chris Young and Jerry Owens in 2006. True to an extent. No we should not depend on minor leaguers who haven't played a game above the AA level to save us but we should not forgot about them. In order to win on a yearly basis your farm system will have to pitch in. EDIT: You always hear that saying of "A team coming off a world series shouldn't..." some of it is true but you cant forget what made your team. Smart acquisitions and your farm system.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) If Garland leaves after '06 I would love to replace him with Mulder! Another lefty ace to go along w/ Buerhle. Mulder grew up a Sox fan. I have a feeling KW is going to give Jose C an extension this year so a rotation of Buerhle, Mulder, Garcia, Conteras and BMac in 2007 would look pretty good to me. Mulder has had injury problems with his hip, I think... It depends how he does this season, if he still has problems staying healthy he will probably be overpriced to take a gamble on. Then if he is fine then he will definitley be pricey. I doubt he comes to the sox.

What did Bruce Levine speculate on ?
Whitewashed in '05 replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Aren't back surgeries kind of risky? I thought I read Hermie didn't want to test it and I am not sure if Crede would either. One thing that is true though is that the sox do think there is a problem there that needs to be addressed with his back. -
Twins trying to acquire Luis Castillo
Whitewashed in '05 replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) But...their offense struggled mightily for the first part of last year - Martinez and Boone took forever to heat up, and that won't necessarily repeat. Hafner could improve agian next year too. They also have more young guys to plug in - I think they have a replacement for Broussard ready who could be very good. Also, there's still room for improvement in some of their pitchers - Sabathia always seems to me to be bette rthan the numbers he puts up, so they could still improve there too. Well you can't count the Twins out. They need some veteran players and someone like Castilla or Mueller would fit in great for them. Their rotation isn't too bad and their bullpen is good. If they find a good 3B, 2B, or even a SS they would be ok. Hunter will most likely return. I am definitley not counting them out. -

If Jones doesn't re-sign with the Twinkies I will be pretty happy! Buehrle would be pissed but no one else would complain. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) If we're not able to lock Jon up, trading Gio and Haigwood is defintely gonna hurt us down the road. How far is Broadway away from the show? About 2 years? Hopefully some sleepers step it up this year so we can have some major league ready propects in the case Jon does leave.

QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Would like to see #35 hit #500 in a Sox uniform........... So would I... Besides the championship season, seeing Thomas crush #500 with the White Sox would definitley be a good page to add to my White Sox top favorite memories.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) Hmm. Byrd would be a very solid sign don't you think? Ugh, he handled us decently in the playoffs for a junkballer. He's an innings eater and gets the job done with what he has. It would be a good place to start for the Indians to replace 1 of their 2 holes in the rotation right now. I guess he just pissed me off in the playoffs that the sox couldn't rock him. He looks like such a vulnerable pitcher.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Seeing how the new mgnt just signed Baldelli, he's not going anywhere. Crawford was signed by the old mgmt earlier this yr. Seeing how the D-Rays have big glut of OFer's, they could trade Crawford for a bunch of talent They just signed Crawford to a long ass contract too, their building around Baldelli and Crawford. Neither of them will be coming here.

Well Frank hasn't gotten it with the sox so Thome isn't really "another" so to speak. Not taking anything away from Thome, but the person I really care about reaching 500 is big Frank. I'll be happy if/when Thome does but he isn't Thomas. Thome will never replace Frank (I am not saying you implied so either.)
