2010-2011 NHL thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) If re-signing Nik costs you the chance to re-sign Niemi, I'd take the 1st and 3rd and move on and try to sign another defender. But hopefully we can find a way to keep both going forward. I am with you. Defense is our deepest position of minor league talent. We have 0 goalies.

I would imagine the contract to Nik is front loaded, but San Jose probably doesn't have a ton of cap room, either. Have to match.

How do YOU want this team to look in 2011?
I think Konerko needs to be back, maybe on a 2-year, $20 million deal, which gives him some good dough and doesn't hamstring the Sox long-term. Whether or not he is willing to accept such a short deal is a completely different question though. Maybe the third year can be a team option, but becomes guaranteed if he reaches some important statistical markers.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) He's really not that efficient a scorer, he needs 14 shots to reach the high teens in scoring. He has peaked as an 18 PPG scorer even as the #1 or #2 option on the Bulls. He doesn't hit many 3's and has never gotten to the line 5 times per game. Adding a post player or a guy that will be a major part of the pick and roll game will likely reduce his touches. I would imagine he would drop to something like a 13-14 PPG scorer on 10 or 11 shots on a better team. Like Jason said, Deng isn't an all-star but he is still very capable of playing at a near-all-star level. He plays solid defense. And is a deadly open shooter. The people who hate Deng are right to dislike his contract, his unwillingness to play injured and his injury proneness. But when he is healthy, he is a great player to have. I have always thought he is a perfect third option for a team, and now, he finally is. He will only be helped by the added shooting the Bulls will get this FA.

A lot of these smokescreens stuff could be front offices trying to sell season tickets. We saw when it was leaked that the Bulls were the favorites for LeBron they sold like 2,000 full-season tickets. Could Miami be doing the same? They know they don't make that much money (compared to others' as an organization, don't believe they are in the top ten) and will need all the full-season tickets they can when they inevitably go over the cap in a year or two. That being said, I still like LeBron to them, but I wouldn't put it past these FOs as a business maneuver.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Hudson is better than ALL of the options you just listed there Caulfield. Yeah I am not sure why people are doubting Hudson. He has been simply awesome minus his April. Plays in horrible hitters park and pitched solid for the Sox last year. What's not to like?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Well, you all know I would love Anthony Morrow on the Bulls. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Gordon is much better at creating his own shot. Morrow might play better D on a team that focuses on it. He's a great energy player thought with a ton of enthusiasm. The biggest problem with Gordon, well two actually, he was so damn small for a SG and just simply didn't care about defense. I am convinced any player can be at least average defensively solely through effort. Morrow biggest problem on D was he played in system that didn't allow for defense really.

Bulls need Anthony Morrow big (assuming no LBJ). He'd be the perfect sixth man. I'd also sign Ronnie Brewer to be our starting 2-guard. Not a great offensive player, but can score efficiently and play solid D which we will need at the guard spot. Also brings nice size. I'd also go for Luke Ridnour for the back-up PG spot to round out the roster along with Asik who is a forgone conclusion as an addition. Rose/Ridnour Brewer/Morrow Deng/Johnson Boozer/Gibson Noah/Asik That is a solid group right there who should hopefully grow into a bonafide contender in couple years when Rose becomes hopefully a star.

Just hoping LeBron comes here or stays in Cleveland. If so, the Bulls could still get Boozer/SG and be competitive. The East will not have one amazing team, but rather six really solid teams (Cavs, Heat, Hawks, Bulls, Celtics and Magic). Then again, if LeBron comes here, the Bulls are probably still the best team or at least around the Celtics and Magic. Heat as constructed have two really good players and s***. I am really not sold on them being that great with just the Big 2.

As well, good to VDN get another job. All things considered, he did about as good as anyone would have done with the Bulls the last two years. Had Noah been healthy this season, the Bulls are probably closer to 45-50 wins. He had a team of zero shooters and a weak bench. It clearly was not meant to be in Chicago, but it wasn't because he did a bad job.

I will say this about LeBron, his team is gonna sell sponsorship for the one-hour special with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club. I will commend him on that concept, but still this whole hoopla is downright annoying.

I have to imagine the Bulls feel real (I MEAN REAL REAL REAL) good that Carlos Boozer is theirs if they want him and that they are legitimately still in the hunt for the Big 3. Otherwise, I think they would have gone out and signed Boozer already to at least have one solid FA acquisition. I still have the feeling LBJ to Cleveland, Wade/Bosh to Miami and then Boozer to Chi with Korver/Redick/Miller/Morrow.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Just proves he's a moron. DRose is no batman. He's good, but not THAT great. He is the perfect Robin to someone's Batman. Alfred=Noah? Well, Rose might be a Batman in two years. He is still very young. In two years, his numbers could be very Dwyane Wade-esque. Granted, I still want another top option to go along with him, but Rose isn't even close to the player he will become and that player is, IMO, likely one of the top ten players in the NBA.

Great matchup today with Tillman vs. Hudson.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
This Tigers-Orioles game is hilarious. It's like a 16-inch softball game, lots of scoring. And how is Corey Patterson still playing baseball? Dude is awful no matter what his stats show.

Ozzie, Gardenhire, or Leyland?
Gardy has continually won with lesser talent. But this year they have the most talent, IMO, and aren't doing too hot. Leyland is solid, as is Ozzie. But regardless, I still want Gardy. He's won five division champions compared to Ozzie's two. Leyland has been around for awhile, but only been to five playoffs.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) So it appears that the Bulls said LeBron's inner circle would get no special privileges. I wonder if that's a possible deal breaker. I am really 50/50 on this one. At one hand, you gotta do whatever you can to win so as long as it's legal. So what if you give LeBron, the best player in the NBA some special privileges. However, why the hell does he need 16 people flying on the team plane every trip? That's quite extreme. And his whole entourage is kinda sketchy. I guess I am really hoping Wade commits and then we go get Bosh/Boozer. We still get a heck of an off-season and don't have to deal with LeBron and his people.

Prince Fielder Speculation
In five minutes, I could be on Bleacher Report with an article stating inside sources indicate the Sox are close to a deal to acquire Adam Laroche. It's a garbage site.

This whole circus is the most annoying thing I have ever seen in my life. These guys need to make up their frickin minds already and stop the media craziness. They are know where they are going to be (IMO) they are just attention-starving media whores who can't get enough of the limelight. And sadly, I am following every gosh darn tweet about them.

The fact that LeBron didn't make a statement to the fans like people said he was earlier today has to bode well for the Bulls (and the other teams I suppose minus Cleveland).

praying for an LBJ commitment...And speaking of LBJ, it's so hard to tell in photos anything really. I mean who remembers the famous LBJ (former prez) where he is winking (or blinking) and people say that proved he was in on the Kennedy assassination?

If I were the Bulls, I would start the presentation with a Bulls montage of the glory years. Show the iconic championship moments and all with Jordan, Pip, Rodman, etc. Then show the opening montage before the Bulls games, but add James at the end as well. And then, end the video portion with the Bulls player introduction video, music and just end with from St. Vincent, St. Mary...
