  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Man, if they got a 1st and a decent prospect back for Buff that would be one of the greatest moves of the summer. Please sell on him. That's the current asking price, but I don't think anyone will bite. Likely we'll have to settle for second round picks for most our guys with Versteeg the lone exception since he is signed for two years.

  3. QUOTE (The Beast @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) My question to you would be, how does someone with a business management degree, with courses in journalism, sports marketing and work experience in a sports information department get into something that you have? First, it's an internship, but it's paid just for full disclosure sake. Second, my dad's friend knew the boss and gave me his number to talk to him about sports marketing since I decided I wanted to get involved in it. Unbeknownce to me they had internships available, so I sent my resume and interviewed with a couple people from the office and then got the internship. I'd say keep your head up and continue to look and e-mail people, you never know what might happen or what's available that's not advertised.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) You can, but most of the "professional" firms require a paralegal certificate. But really, at least as an attorney, I love working in the small firm without the office politics. Pay isn't as good, but value of life is immensely better (actual contributing member to the firm versus bring a grunt working 80 hrs a week). I'm sure it's the same feeling for our paralegal. Out of curiosity, how do you see the job market for the smaller firms? I applied to law schools last fall and recently deferred my admission at U. of Illinois one year thinking that maybe law was not the right thing for me. I have been working at a sports marketing agency and realize hours here are just as bad as the law field with less pay, so I am back on maybe-go-to-law-school path. But I wouldn’t want to work at Jenner & Block, Baker & McKenzie, DLA Piper, etc. Too many hours, stress and hate for your life. I would rather do what apparently you do, work at a smaller firm, enjoy life with a still-good paycheck. I also would have in-roads at a sports agency so that if I went to Illinois, I could practice law and do a sports agent gig as well (granted for now, it would be UFL/CFL talent). So back to my question, how plentiful do you see thee small-firm jobs for the future? How best do you obtain those jobs? Thanks!

  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) God, I hope so, although I won't believe til it gets done. From TSN's Bob McKenzie: Ladd for a second-round pick? I think that would be fair for both sides. Obviously the Hawks really can't get a first-round pick for him because if Vancouver waits he'll be an outright free agent, but this would guarantee them his rights (I believe). That would also give the Hawks four picks in the first 60, which could help replenish our system or help us move up in the draft to get a guy we like.
  7. Silveiro can certainly hit bad pitching, but he just can't hit advanced pitchers. Luckily he is still relatively young.
  8. I am in at the moment, but it's a tippy-toe in. Let's see where we are at in 9 more games (end of July). Play the Braves, Cubs and Royals. Braves are not good on the road, the Cubs are dysfunctional and bad, and the Royals still are KC. We should be 6-3, or at least 5-4. I am glad we are winning, but we have beat the worst teams in the league. Do it against moderately better competition and I'll have my entire foot in.
  9. Today Beckham looks like last year Beckham. Up the middle, line drives.
  10. Dayan has the best opposite field approach of anyone on this team.
  11. Let's hope we get a focused, sweaty Freddy. I think we will have a nice offensive showing today.
  12. Too bad we don't have anything to trade. Flowers is a first baseman (by most accounts) stuck at catcher. Danks is awful offensively. Dayan's splits are suspect. Mitchell is injured. Hudson is the only one with trade value that could help (and help being the operative word) net a solid bat.
  13. Doesn't Carlos realize in order to be near the wall, you first need to be on the warning track? He was feeling for the ball, yet five feet away from the track.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Ramirez can look totally bad at the plate sometimes Just throw him breaking balls and he has no chance. I am really not sure why he ever gets fastballs. Can't recognize a breaking ball, can't lay off a breaking ball outside the zone and simply can't make solid contact (if any) on breaking balls.
  15. Joey Cora resembles Jerry Manuel a lot with the gray beard.
  16. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) yay, there's that higher RISP for Quentin working at it's finest. I find that amazing. He has been brutal this year, except when he has the chance for RBIs. Gotta be a focus issue.
  17. Carlos Quentin, First Base. First Base, Carlos Quentin. It's been awhile, so I felt the two needed to be reacquainted.
  18. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) half kidding / half not kidding Where would he play?
  19. God. Jones doesn't even look like a AA hitter right now. WHY THE HELL ARE RIOS AND KONERKO OUT WHEN WE HAVE OFF DAYS?!!?!?
  20. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Qunetin .209 Kotsay .207 Jones .205 Beckham .203 This is great stuff. And that's our middle of the order.
  21. Well Vizquel is making me eat my words, but Kotsay still sucks.
  22. J.D. Martin is a legit bum. We haven't even hit the ball hard against him. He throws BP right down central at 87 MPH. Rios and PK would have hit him well. F OZZIE.
  23. Andruw and his .422 OPS in June sure does deserve some PT Ozzie.
  24. Our 3-hitter has a .673 OPS. That is a well-constructed line-up there Ozzie. I just looked at the splits and Kotsay has 0 hits against left-handed pitching (granted only 10 at-bats). That is funny.
