  1. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) MDGonzales Sox lineup (no Viciedo): Pierre lf, Vizquel 3b, Kotsay 1b, Jones cf, Quentin rf, AJ c, Ramirez ss, Beckham 2b, Peavy p WTF? Why the hell is Viciedo up? He is gonna sit on the bench, get inconsistent at-bats and then perform poorly. He'll then lose his confidence, get sent down to AAA and continue to suck there. And we will have killed yet another Sox prospect by egregiously mishandling him. I am serious, this is downright ridiculous the lack of communication between KW and Ozzie.
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Oz - "I'm going to pick the spot to see who's pitching and the matchup. And I'll wait to see." When Viciedo sucks, look at this quote and you'll know why. If he gets 2-3 starts per week, he is gonna be bad. I really hope he's out there everyday and then Omar plays defensive replacement in close games. If he is called up, there is no reason he shouldn't be starting most days.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) That's hardly a great list of goalies. Marty Turco? I'd take Nabokov as a starter, but other than that...um. Also trade Buff, not Sharp. His value's never going to be higher than this, and Sharp's easily the better player. And Nabakov scuffles under the playoff stress. I don't think anyone thinks Buff is better than Sharp, but Sharp has the most value and could definitely net the biggest return. That being said, I would hate to see Sharp go. Great two-way player, great teammate, great goal scorer, clutch and seems like a great person.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) They also signed 24 year old Mathis Olimb (who was on the Swedish olympic team) to a one year deal who was compared to a Swedish Versteeg. (maybe alittle poorer version) Hjalmarsson has some Swedish countrymen on his team if he re-signs next season. Any word on his rapping abilities?
  5. Hawks signed some Swedish center Niklas Perrson from the KHL. Based on what I read, probably Madden's replacement. Good defensive player. http://www.hockeyforum.com/hockey-trades-r...blackhawks.html
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) I can't believe they are keeping Carey Price over him. Man they just don't want to get rid of Price. Edmonton is looking to trade their 1st overall pick BTW. Steve (or anyone else) as a hockey guy if worst comes to absolute worst, would you think of trading the 31 year old Hossa (I think a 5.3 cap hit, though damn good for his caliber) or would you deal the other [younger] guys (Sharp, Byfuglien, Versteeg, Bolland, etc..) before him? I would deal Sharp and Versteeg for the first pick (Even enough?). Save cap room and pick up a stud like Hall or Seguin. I mean they are going to have to trade away some big talent, so why not bring back one as well.
  7. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) You're computing it based on their actual salaries instead of their cap hits. I don't know all of the differences off hand, but one of the major ones is that Hossa's deal is very front-loaded, so his cap hit is $5.233 mil instead of $7.9 mil. Keith appears to be another one that fits that mold, with a $5.51 mil average salary/cap hit as opposed to his actual salary of $8 mil. Def. it. Thank you! Completely neglected the difference between those two.
  8. Can someone help me here? I am not bad at math, but my numbers don't match this Web site's: http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?tea...amp;season=0910 When I insert the salaries of the players into excel (with Toews bonus included) I get a cap hit of $64.27 (in millions). However, the site is at $57.566. I used the sites exact salary numbers for next year on my sheet, but we don't match. Anyone wanna check the site for me and see what you come up with? I am just curious about the Hawks' cap situation is all.
  9. Freddy with the perfect bunt placement wise.
  10. Joey Cora was dying of laughter on the bench when Castro came in.
  11. http://www.totalprosports.com/2010/06/11/d...-ejected-video/ Enjoy.
  12. Freddy has nothing tonight. This is gonna be a start where he gives up 9 ER.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) ...and then you wind up with guys like Khabibulin and Huet getting paid 6 millish and not being difference makers. We've been down that road before... Come on, boys! You're better than that. Niemi will probably make 3.5 million next year, and it'll be with the Hawks. Just listen to how Quenneville praises Niemi's attitude and composure. We are in complete agreement, my friend. Take a look above.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) Which is why if I'm the Hawks, I may let other teams do my work for me. It's rolling the dice, but if you let teams drop offer sheets on Niemi, you get a chance to see his value across the league, and if you feel like it's fair, you match it. If someone offers him 4-4.5 a season, you let him walk, and then start looking for a goalie. Hjalmarsson is the bigger RFA priority anyway this off-season. I actually think it should be the other way around. Niemi clearly is benefited by the Hawks terrific D core and likely plays his best with the Hawks due to this and a comfort level within the organization. But on the other hand, he also saved the Hawks in games where the D sucked (San Jose). I think they should be aggressive with him and get a deal done quick that is fair for both sides. You really can't afford to lose him and have options of Huet/Crawford/low-price FA pick-up. I would offer him a 3-year deal worth $11 million dollars. He gets money, but also affords the Hawks protection if he is a one-year wonder-type. There are plenty of teams desperate for goalies in a weak (so I have read) FA class. Add that he just won the Cup and is only 26-years-old, someone could be foolish and offer him a 5-year, $25 million offer to which the Hawks really can't afford.
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) I think if you can't deal Huet, you've got to have him in Rockford, not have that $5.5M count towards the cap, to be able to keep the likes of Sharp and Versteeg around. I'd try and move Campbell to a team that needs a puck moving d-man like Dallas or Atlanta, but that's probably wishful thinking. Another team is probably going to give up the most talent for Sharp I would have thought, so I think he's a good candidate to be gone from next season. How much is Niemi going to want also with his new contract is also going to be an issue. Going to be a very busy summer for Bowman. Campbell ain't going anymore most likely though. No one wants the cap hit on a good defenseman getting paid like a top-three defenseman. Huet better be in Rockford next year. To me we have to keep Niemi and Hammer over Steeger and even Sharp. One good thing is that if we trade for draft picks, we are a terrific drafting team, so we could just reload on youngsters. Huet's salary cap hit is probably equal to Hammer and Niemi's combined next year (give or take $500,000) so it's clear he is off the books. Then really, it's just gonna be youngsters filling out the roster: Beach, Skille, Aliu and maybe even one of our young D-men. Good thing we have of minor league talent.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) True. But maybe the philosophy changes some with a new GM in place. It was quite clear that just until recently KW paid no attention whatsoever to the draft/farm. I think it's about 75% checks and 25% philosophy. If KW had a draft budget like the Yankees or Sox, the Sox system would be way more productive. But also, that doesn't we the ML club would see the fruits of that labor with his tendency to trade prospects for ML talent. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) What does Hahn bring to the table? His only experience in a ML front office is negotiating player contracts from all I can see, and that is not a skill that is irreplaceable in the front office. Hahn came into baseball as a numbers /nerd guy. KW as a feel/baseball guy. I would prefer the numbers guy because I just think numbers over the long haul can tell you more than whatever the hell philosophy KW uses (he was good five years ago, so maybe this year he'll re-find himself??)
  17. Weather update? Radar appears to say raining at Wrigley...

Did the 13.1 Chicago Half-Marathon today. Hit 87 minutes, 45 seconds. PR by about five minutes. So happy. Now on to doing nothing the rest of the day.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Kaner has issues with being a 21 year old drunken idiot at times. A LOT of 21 year olds have that problem, as anybody who has been to college (which is most of us) knows. He produces on the ice, and as long as the cab thing remains a one time incident, I can't sit here and tell him what to do with his spare time. Kaner wasn't the only one that seemd a bit tipsy today either. Yeah, but he has to be held to a higher standard than most 21-year-olds. I'm not prosthelytizing and saying alcohol is sin, but when they are kids are involved, he's got to keep himself under control. He has all off-season to party and be wasted, and just spent the past two days doing such. Is it too much to ask for him to be sober for two hours while the entire Chicago spotlight in on him? I think not. When you become a public figure, and not a private person, you have to learn how to comport yourself in public. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 08:20 AM) There is a huge difference in appropriate behavior when you are Partying in private with your friends Partying in public with your friends Representing your employer in front of 2,000,000 of their customers You have convinced me that someone at twentyone can't figure that out. It is too advanced of a social skill. Here is a tip, when at a work function, if you are clueless as to appropriate behavior, look to management and your peers. Perhaps look to other people at similar functions to see how they handled themselves. Obviously there are some posters here that think they can act like it is a private party while at work. Best of luck to you. Thank you.
  20. I love Kane the player, but as a person he's got some serious issues and nerve. I mean, this is the guy along with Toews who are being worshipped by thousands of youth hockey players in Chicago, Illinois and even the entire world. So what does he do? He gets wasted during the parade and keeps chugging beers down the whole time. Is it too much to ask for him to just not get wasted/drink while the kids are watching? I mean Toews was perfectly coherent, but Kane serious went overboard and made himself look like an idiot.
  21. I would love Rick Hahn and Joey Cora. Promote from within two very good baseball minds.
  22. Please get rid of both. For how "good" KW has been, he has won two divisions since 2001. That's awful, but gets masked because he brought a WS. Give me a new manager/GM combo of Joey Cora and Rick Hahn please. But if I had to pick Ozzie. Annoying. Embarrassing. Bad.
  23. Give me A.J. Cole. Very projectable high school righty. Already got three solid pitches that project as above-average pitches in the majors. Throws gas. He could be a front-line starter if all goes right, or back-end weapon in a worst-case scenario.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) ...in the NBA. One year at a D-III school really doesn't count.
