Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
It's always suspicious to me when mainstream journalists are talking about a deal if some obscure person calls it a done deal. Not buying it yet. I am actually for the trade, though, pending on what's given up. Yeah, Lilly might struggle with the HR ball, but he doesn't walk people, has minimized hits and it still a very solid pitcher. He is better than Freddy and Hudson right now, too, this move would still improve out team. Maybe Nevin Griffin + Lucas Harrel could get the job done. One solid prospect, one close-to-ready prospect.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
Jordan Danks will NOT be in any deal for Adam Dunn -- guaranteed. Simply put, Jordan will not be traded til Big Bro gets his extension. There is no way KW gives up Jordan Danks and risks upsetting John. Even though Jordan's trade value has been diminished, it matters not, because he isn't being dangled.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (The Beast @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) What are your guys' thoughts on "don't go looking for love/lust/a girlfriend, let it/her come find you." Part agree, part disagree. Agree: If you are too aggressive or try to hard to have a GF, the girl likely won't be right for you and you will probably regret the relationship. Disagree: Men are suppose to be the hunters and women the hunted. Guys initiate the conversation, date asking, etc. most of the time, so if you don't do anything, like nothing will happen to you. You will likely be waiting for a random girl to just see you in the middle of the road and initiate flirting with you. You gotta capture both strategies for the best scenario. Go out, be aggressive, but don't over do it. Just my two cents.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) Cavs traded Delonte West to the T-Wolves and the T-Wolves are gonna release him. If he wasn't such a mental and physical headcase and a thug, I would love to have him on our team as a PG/SG. Career 37% three point shooter and a good free throw shooter who plays very good defense even though he's a bit undersized. Having said that little tidbit, I want him as far away from Chicago as possible. Cleveland was close enough for that dude. Also reports indicate Bulls are not sold on T-Mac. I'll let others pull up reports here but after reading them, just sign Mason Jr. (or best case, figure out a way to get Rudy Fernandez, though the Blazers are asking for the moon for him oddly enough) and call it an off-season. I mean it's weird here. McGrady is saying the right thing, that he is here to work hard and prove to everyone that he can play a significant role on a good basketball team. That's what NBA players are supposed to want and they are supposed to have that competitive drive. That being said, that's not the Bulls plan for him. I personally think at this point in his career, 15-20 minutes per game of being an instant offensive threat is better for his health than trying to be a 35-minute per game starter who is counted on for defense too.

Oswalt
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) Problem is: he's the one that requested the trade in the first place. Kinda silly to ask to be traded then hamstring the club by demanding that an extra year and $14M in guaranteed money be added to your contract AND it looks like he really only wants to play for the Cardinals as he's apparently not too keen on playing for the Phillies. That's why I hate all these athletes, if you don't want to be hamstrung by being stuck in a place for a long time, don't sign 5-plus-year deals. Then of course, they will b**** they won't get the money. Well, they can't have their cake and eat it too. STFU Oswalt.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) Some great insight about the draft on tonight's show. Sounds like KW was dead right on B. Loux and his injury issues. Sounds like with the first pick, out of the 6 possible players they were interested in, it was Grandal, Eibner, Workman, Loux, and Sale. KW was very interested in making Eibner a 2-way player. That was real interesting. You could tell Hahn was thinking, "WTF is Kenny thinking?" I kinda agree with Rick on this because I think it is near impossible to make a two-way player a Major Leaguer. There is no way a MLB player could be that good at both. If there were, it would have happened by now. But by allowing a player to split time between being a position player and pitcher is doing a disservice to that player and stunting his growth on both. In the pros, you pick the one you will be best at and stick it there. If that doesn't work, then try to Santos route, but it's just unrealistic to attempt to be a two-way player.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) That would mean the Sox have plus fielders at 5 positions (Omar, Alexei, Rios, AJ, Pierre), 2 above average ones (Gordon, Paulie), and 2 bad one/great ones depending on day(Quentin/Some Pitchers vs. Jones/Buehrle-Santos) I might downgrade Juan to above-average because of his noodle arm (I love that saying so much), but his range is excellent and seems to have good instincts, but so much of defensive ability is also deterring runners from taking the extra base, which Juan doesn't do.

Regardless of everything, I think it's clear this team's success is dependent on Derrick Rose's evolution. Based on what I read about last night and all of the summer, Rose is about to take off become a top-ten player in the NBA. With some better players around him and in particular one amazing shooter (Korver), one amazing fast break player (Brewer) and one terrific inside scorer (Boozer), I think Rose becomes a 23 ppg, 8 asp guy this season. To me it doesn't matter who the 11th guy is, if Rose continues to develop he can be a Wade-esque player.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Why would that matter? Has it come to this in the NBA that not only do you get your wish to be traded when under contract, they actually are supposed to trade you to the place you want to go most? Its ridiculous. Paul is being repped by Lebron's guys now. If he gets his supposed wish, the NBA will be in a lot of trouble in a couple of years. Personally, I hope if they trade Paul, I hope they send him to the least desirable place he wants to go. The Hornets still have the upper hand here. I have a feeling Paul is going nowhere. Bulls now clear favorites to sign McGrady according to Marc Stein. So as long as he a) agrees to a bench role and B) is healthy, Stein says he will be a Bull. Pretty happy about this signing, but makes even a more ridiculous numbers crunch. Granted he wont be healthy the entire year, but still is Watson going to be happy with 5 minutes a game? Kover with 10? McGrady with 10? Brewer with 20? We sign him, we are probably the deepest team in the NBA, but that means nothing when the NBA is about five on five.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) It's worth noting that the pitchers have given him a lot more help this year too. Gavin's gotten a lot better at moving to the plate, D1 and MB have solid moves to 1b, etc. I will say the pitchers have been better, but no one attempts off Buehrle and it seems rarely off Danks granted I don't have stats that back that up -- thats only off watching. As well, looking at the stats, it seems clear AJ should be the leading contender for the gold glove, but we all know that's Mauer's no matter what.

Check out these stats for AJ: AJ leads MLB in fielding percentage at .998. AJ is FOURTH in caught stealing percentage at 34.5% So while he isn't hitting well, let's give him a congrats for being arguably the best defensive catcher in baseball this year plus he calls an excellent game.

7/24 Games
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) What has AJ done this season that you would want him in the everyday lineup for another 2 seasons Well, AJ has had an abnormally bad year. But he plays great defense and calls a great game. Flowers has no familiarity with the current Sox pitchers, which is huge. AJ is first in the MLB (among qualified catchers) in fielding percentage and fourth in caught stealing percentage.

Juan Pierre
He's having a good year, but really he is not even one of the ten best OFs fielding-wise in the AL. I couldn't name off the top of my head ten better, but trust me here. He also has a noodle arm which is big in defense value. Good year, but not great. In fact, I would argue Alex is a better fielder than Juan and more deserving of a gold glove despite not being super great either.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) Assuming we sign another wing, the beautiful thing is the depth this squad is going to have. Our 11th and 12th players are going to be guys with some potential who can possibly earn themselves more minutes and if they're not ready to get consistent playing time this year, well it's not too big of a deal because we wont need them much anyways. I really am loving this team. Just get me one more wing. I may be the only one, but I am not a fan of going 12 deep on a roster. I think it screws the minutes up for the better players. Here is what I predict for the minute distribution this year: PG: Rose (35 minutes), Watson (13 minutes) SG: Brewer (30 minutes); Korver (10 minutes); FA or Johnson (8 minutes) SF: Deng (33 minutes); Korver (10 minutes); Johnson (5 minutes) PF: Boozer (35 minutes); Gibson (13 minutes) C: Noah (35 minutes); Gibson (10 minutes); Thomas/Asik (3??) I just don't see how the numbers align with all this depth. I would much rather have eight strong player than 12 above-average players. Taj deserves 20+ minutes per game easily, but if he does, Asik/Thomas get nothing. You can't take away from Noah. Gonna be some minute problems.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Where'd you see them play? Jaylon Tate should also be a high-magor kid. I've heard Alvin Ellis will be good too. Both are gonna be sophs (and both Gs). De La Salle is my team and I'm excited as heck to watch them play, particularly with Dre Henley transferring back. I won't take too much stock into games in the summer. Heck, D pretty much blew out simeon at uic last season yet simeon still regrouped and won state. At Collins Academy in the west side of Chicago. It was actually part of my internship right now. My company helps Nike put on experiential marketing events, so I was giving uniforms to all the guys, but yeah Tate/Ellis were there. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that they were that good otherwise I would have watched them more. Even with it being the summer, Simeon just looks so damn athletic and to be that dominant against another really good (and I think DLS has a great chance to get down state) is impressive. I think what's so amazing about Simeon is there depth, they have about seven D-1 prospects.

I seriously wish a team would just take a stand with these players and not give in to their trade demands. If they are that serious about not playing out their contract, call them out of it and see if they hold true. Chris Paul isn't going to sacrifice his money -- guaranteed -- so he would def. still play if not traded. But, of course, no team can take that risk.

QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) I was going to say, if your started at 250 it'd be a terrific job but if you started at 215, you'd be going the opposite way haha. I am also trying to lose some weight. I'm down roughly 10-15 pounds since I started working out heavy in March. I have a really hard time with pizza and donuts though. You'll have to keep us updated. Mine is cookies and ice cream. If those don't didn't exist, I would be so much better with my eating habits.
