  1. Michael Jordan, as great a basketball player, is pretty selfish. He basically thought he deserved to be GM of the Bulls when he retired and when they weren't interested in giving him such a high-ranking position, he got pissed. I think time has proven that MJ is a pretty bad basketball executive. I can't believe a guy could be so upset at a team that paid him $30-plus million his last two years and pretty much catered to his every conceivable demand.
  2. I don't profess to be an expert on baseball organization strategy but appears for an organization to be successful, it needs to find a perfect balance between stat-based scouting and game scouting, as well as building from within and through free agency. And further in the building from within, an organization needs to complement it's draft haul with Latin American (world, too) free agents. In a league where more and more players are from Latin America, the Sox continue to ignore that entire demographic with the exception of the rare signings like Alexei and Dayan.
  3. His problem is the money Scott Linebrink is due. If Liney was not here, I am confident Torres would have his spot as the last guy in the pen.
  4. Even when Bowman said the Hawks didn't have to make more trades, I didn't believe him. He only said that to keep his leverage in deals. I was fairly confident Buff, Ladd and Steeger were goners. Oh well, we still are really good, just gonna need young guys to step up and the cheap FAs to produce.

QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) Awesome thread and good racing maggsmaggs. I ran a 1:33:40 half marathon on a hilly (and somewhat sandy) course in Ludington, MI two weekends ago. Followed it up the following Tuesday with five sub six minute miles in a race called Mile Madness in Lisle/Naperville/beats me where Nequa Valley is (five 1600 meter time trials at five different tracks the same evening) then ran a sprint triathlon (700m, 14mi, 4.5mi) in Palatine on Sunday. My goal is to break 3 hours at Chicago. I would love to qualify for Boston as well (need to break 3:10). After that, I want to compete in a half Ironman and maybe one day, a full Ironman. All of those are pretty lofty goals but I feel if I am committed and work hard, they're attainable. Damn. You hilly half is very impressive, especially sandy too. Nice work. How many miles you run per week?
  6. And we continue to wonder why our system blows donkey balls...
  7. "Sacks packed with Sox"...with hopefully, "and NOOO body out."
  8. If LeBron goes back to Cleveland, all I will do is laugh at him. And then cry that the Bulls will probably strikeout in free agency.
  9. Bucher thinks LeBron to Cleveland, Bosh sign-and-trade to Miami has legs. WTF? We better get Boozer on the phone pronto...
  10. Chris Sale...are you alive?
  11. F-in-A. This is just the most annoying thing ever. When the Bulls meet with Bron, they better reiterate to him that Chicago gives him the best chance to win while still maintaining his status as the man of the team. I have been saying Chicago or Cleveland for the entire off-season, but I now I am starting to thing sunny Miami is him new destination. Pray that I am wrong...On the bright side, Miami will be looking for scrubs like us to fill out the bench.
  12. Take this for what it's worth, but I am interning for a sports marketing agency whose main client is Nike. We have been holding Nike Skills Academy appearances at Niketown Friday, today and tomorrow. Thus, we work with Nike's basketball marketing guys. They say the people they know (LeBron is a Nike guy) say LeBron to the Bulls. Not the best sources here, but still...
  13. I am getting very worried. I think the Bulls are going to dance with Bosh/James, neglecting Johnson, which will let NY scoop him and Amare up. Then, James/Bosh will be between Bulls/Heat. I pray it's not a Ray Allen/David Lee summer.
  14. I promise to name my child's middle name after you Alex if you get a bomb here. Well go with Rios as the middle name.
  15. We will make a game out of this still. Got to obviously hold them at 5 runs, but their pen blows and we have that mojo with us. Will we win? Maybe not. But it's not over, the tying run will come to the plate.
  16. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) I think Beach will end up with Toews and Kane. I don't know if they will want such an unproven player with them although they have done that in the past with Bickell. I would really like Ladd on the line with them too (assuming he comes back). Gives them some size and a guy who plays D well to compensate for Kane.
  17. I slow-motioned the replay, that ball was foul. Very close and bad a pitch by Danks, but that was foul.
  18. If Threets, pitches well while Jenks is out, I think Williams will be sent packing.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) He is here according to mark gonzalez. Hooray. If he pitches well with Jenks on the bereavement list, I think Williams is DFA.
  20. Erik Threets has like a 0.50 ERA in AAA. I mean, he couldn't be worse, right??
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) Just Side Note: Bulls signed Gonzaga guard Matt Bouldin, bringing the summer league roster too: Joe Alexander James Johnson Rob Kurz Matt Bouldin Omer Asik (probably) Already love this guy (from his twitter) I am very much looking forward to Asik. Will probably take over for Miller on the roster and he could be a very good bench guy. Athletic, big and plays D.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) I'm being told by my friend the Hinrich + 17 trade doesn't shed enough salary to pursue two maximum contracts. Can someone explain? I dont have the math here but we can sign one guy at the true max level and then another guy at just below the max level. Still a boat load but not a true max contract.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) I doubt they find a taker. I'd give up a first-round pick WITH Brian Campbell for someone to take his contract. He is a very good player Campbell and really improved defensively this year, but his contract is killing this team. If we could convince a team to take Campbell and adding a first rounder could help, it would probably mean we could keep Steeger and Ladd. As well, we are stacked with good defenseman prospects.
  24. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 06:05 AM) Pronger I think his ego is too big to accept such a low salary.
  25. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) Time for some more Eklund garbage. via his twitter I don't know who he is, but I don't trust "insiders" who spell players and cities wrong in rumor tweets.
