Can't wait to get rid of this idiot's $10 million contract.

OMG. Just throw strikes. If Contreras doesn't throw a first pitch strike, the at-bat pretty much ends up bad.

Another thing about Hudson that I find very encouraging is that despite being a strikeout pitcher, he seems to be very efficient (pitch count wise) as well.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Poreda is just a reliever. Probably an above average one, but nothing worth regretting in a deal for Jake Peavy. Peavy is going to be the one to determine if it was a good deal or not. Carter is still far away and Richard's upside doesn't equal Peavy's. Definitely agree. Richard will be good, but still is only a No. 3 starter. Peavy, meanwhile, can be an Ace.

Shark Week!
Watched Jaws when I was five and have been freaked out at sharks since then. Hate watching them. I was scared of going in the water at the beach until like 10 because I thought sharks were there despite my mom telling me otherwise.

I saw enough of him to realize he was nothing special. Richard will make the deal for the Padres because he has the potential to be a double-digit winner for the next decade.

We love you Gordon, oh yes we do
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) He did exactly what most rookies do, who succeeed later. He started hot (April), and pitchers adjusted to him (May). The question with rookies is usually, after the first big slump, how do they recover? That is the sign of future success. And the fact that he did decent in June and great in July, to me, says he is likely to have success. I can see him being a .300-ish hitter consistently, .350 OBP territory, some good doubles numbers, good speed, high steal rate, and good defense at second. I'll take that from a second baseman. He seems like he could have a similar numbers to Mark Grudzielanek, more toward the latter of his career. As bad as he looks some times, he looks just as good other times. Once we realize that he is never going to be an all-star type player, but rather a guy who can help a team in all facets of the game, we can finally appreciate his game. To me, he is the perfect No. 9 hitter; a guy who gives you strong at-bats at the bottom of the order, gives you a lot of speed and can really turn over a lineup. His bunting leaves a lot left to desired and he could stand to walk more, but he has been a very solid player for us in his rookie year. He is the kind of player who continues to get better with each passing year.

Rick Hahn on the Score
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) They are not fantasy baseball rules. It is market-value. And since the White Sox operate under a finite budget, that absolutely applies to us. Is the goal not to try and optimize our resources? All of this moving Beckham is predicated on having a sound option at third base, which we currently don't. Viciedo won't be a third baseman, most likely, and Brent Morel still has a long way to go. With our finite resources, it makes sense to keep Beckham/Alexei/Getz as our infielders for awhile because paying $10 million for a third baseman isn't economically smart when you have Beckham entrenched there. As well, spending at second base isn't smart when Getz is going to get better and is pretty good already.. Also, Gordon likely will become a very good third baseball, given a year or two full-time at the position, that is worth a lot in its own right.

Rick Hahn on the Score
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) He's making it fairly obvious that the organization sees Dan Hudson has the top pitching prospect in the organization and did even when Poreda was around. Hudson was a near untouchable at the deadline. Hahn is a great interview, very honest and really says the kind of things you like to hear from the front office. He is a straight shooter that is for sure. I hope he is the heir apparent to KW.

Rick Hahn on the Score
Options for the 5th starter role for the next three starts: Torres, Hudson (Sox believe he could help this year), Garcia or even another bullpen day with Carrasco starting Top Prospects: Had no interest in moving these guys Dan Hudson--top pitching prospect (no interest in moving him, but was asked about by a few teams) Danks Flowers Viciedo Other top pitchers in the system: Leesman and Infante. (Sox view at least) Peavy allows Sox to compete this year with still a mind on '10, '11 and '12. Implies that the offense will be built around the aforementioned young position players. Sox looking at middle relief still (but Hahn reiterated, they are always looking for relievers). Sox have a certain set of characteristics they look for in relievers. Sox have good internal options for the bullpen, including Nunez who was just brought up. Sox got lots of calls about their relievers. Reinsdorf had no hesitation about bring in Peavy and his contract. Sox very surprised that Beckham moved so fast. Not only a great player, but a great individual. Hahn shocked by his success so fast and in the majors. Sox feel his D will get better at third, also think over time he will turn into a bigger HR threat (Once he grows into his man strength, according to Hahn). Nothing too earth shattering, but interesting.

7/30 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) Hudson is leaving the game in the 7th inning with an injury. Possibly a back or oblique. Not good. Better than an arm or elbow. Hopefully more precautionary than anything else.

7/30 Games
Hudson is truly having a player of the year type season. But, unfortunately, those usually go to guys with more pre-season hype than Huddy received. Man is he amazing.

7/30 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) If all goes well, maybe he can be moved to the OF. Brent Morel seems to be developing as a real 3B prospect. If we can develop a Mitchell-Danks-Viciedo outfield and a Morel-Ramirez-Beckham infield, with a free agent 1B, or Quentin at DH, and Flowers catching, well, that would be something. Of course, they all have to be good players too. And that can get tricky. I know some will flame out, but it's just nice to be able to scour the minor league box scores and see legit major league prospects.

Viciedo almost up to .280. If he works out this off-season and transforms his fat into muscle while also losing 15 pounds, watch out.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) 9Ks for hudson, how long before he moves onto AAA and Chicago? My guess is not this year. He'll probably start in AAA next year (if not traded) and battle Poreda for the 5th starters spot (unless we make a trade to fill out the rotation). Next year: 1) Mark 2) Gavin 3) Danks 4) Richard 5) Hudson/Poreda/Trade/FA competition

7/29 Games
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) has anybody seen enough of Morel to say if he has the defensive skills to play 3b. Like to see him finish the year at Birmingham, but that is unlikely with Dayan in his path. Dayan, Morel or Retherford, one of those guys needs to take over at 3b by 2011 According to BA, he is very solid and has a good arm. He could be a good one. He is an ideal 3B because he is not only good with the glove, but has plus range. I hope he continues to progress because he looks like a keeper.

Palehose vs. Twinkies 7/29--7:10pm--CSN
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:18 PM) People need to get over the Brandon Allen manlove. It's not a love of Allen, it's a disdain for Pena and the lack of return on a solid prospect.

Palehose vs. Twinkies 7/29--7:10pm--CSN
Oh yeah, Mr. 10+ ERA comes in. And we traded Brandon Allen for him. Not saying Allen will be great, but you can't trade him for such a s***ty reliever. (Yes, I am opening this discussion again)
