One Song, One Setting
Travelin' Man by Bob Seger. I just love that song to death, but I would love to perform any song by him perfectly.

I mean seriously, AAA hitters hit .300 off this guy and we have one f***ing hit. How despicable.

Well you know Jim has one thing on his mind here.

Seriously F this team.

Chicago @ Seattle Gamethread
So one of our starters finally is having a good start and we do nothing for him. Not Jake Peavy or any other player can help this team unless our hitters get their heads out of their asses and start swinging well. I am so sick and tired of watching the same pull-pull-pull approach every goddam year.

A good team would have run away with our division by now. It just sad to see how bad Detroit really is and yet we are still somehow worse.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
Great move. I still hope we resign Pods (maybe $4 million for a year) LF and sign Dye (maybe $8 million) as DH. That pushes the payroll up to about $85 million, pretty much the max we can spend considering the arbitration numbers. I think there is a real good chance Jenks gets dealt this off-season. You simply can't have a non-elite closer making what he could make next year with arbitration. Anyway, our lineup would look very sexy next year. You can probably count out Figgins, too, but I will gladly take a 28-year-old Rios over a 32-year-old (or whatever he is) Figgins at the same price over the next three years.

Draft Signings
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) So there's a week left to sign these guys. Do we get Morgado and Jones in the fold? I hope so, you really don't draft guys in the top five without expecting to sign them. Hopefully, they get Morgado because power lefties are hard to come by and easy to trade (Aaron Poreda). Jones would also be good, but I would rather have the more developed Morgado than Jones.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) One blue jay message site one persons suggested the sox are just blocking detroit or keeping the tigers from getting him. With the risk of being stuck with $60 million over five years, this simply isn't just a block. Sure, it might be a secondary reason, but the primary reason is the Sox wanting Rios. Although, I have a strong feeling tomorrow passes and we don't have Rios. Riccardi is clearly in a bind, he wants to dump him, but he also wants to get a prospect. My best guess is that he simply holds onto him, hopes he finishes off the year strong and builds up his value into an off-season trade.

Freddy could fill fifth starter spot
If he started today in the heat, could you imagine how sweaty he would have been? That would have been a sight to see.

Tyler Kuhn
More of a gym-rat type player. Probably not going to be a starter in the majors, but looks like a good bench player for the future. Isn't really a CF so that hurts his ability to be an effective bench player because the corner outfielders typically need more power. Looks a lot like Chris Getz, except the outfield version. The real Getz has impressed and surprised me as a starter, so there is plenty of hope for Kuhn, too.

Freddy could fill fifth starter spot
Couldn't be worse than Torres was last night. But if people are expecting anything better than a 4.50-5.00 ERA, they will be disappointed.

Wow. that could have been bad. Glad to see Torres buckle down there and implode. Now, let's a get a few runs for him.

Dan Hudson, come on down. You're the next contestant on the White Sox's search for a 5th starter.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) Sounds like Rios can't use his NTC. From Rotoworld: If it's true that the Blue Jays want Bay in the off-season, there is no way they can keep Rios. Wells is pretty much untradeable and there is no way to get Bay with Rios, too. He pretty much has to Rios go at some point. The big question is does J.P. think he can net a decent return say in the off-season? With his contract and performance, I think the answer is no.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
This really wouldn't be the worst move. You get him for a little more than what it would cost to bring in Figgins and the upside with Rios is much better, especially at D. You can still resign Pods for $4-5 million and one of Dye/Thome (for DH) for $6-8 million. That would put our payroll close to $85 million, factor in arbitration and our payroll is reasonable still. Pods stays in LF, Rios in CF and Q in RF. That lineup is a little better than IMO, simply because of the extra speed and hopeful improvements offensively at 2nd and SS.

8/4 Games
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 04:06 AM) Those numbers have changed. ERA 1.60, 56.1 IP, 63K, 10BB = BB/9 1.59, K/9 10.06 , K/BB 6.3, BAA .188, WHIP 0.83 Some impressive numbers from a guy spending his first full season in pro ball and has jumped levels twice so far. The only bad thing about his transition to AA ball is that he is GO/AO ratio has dipped. In AA, it's 0.71 whereas it was above 1.0 in his previous stops. If he keeps that up, that will probably inflate his ERA because the next two potential stops for him are hitters parks. Still though, he looks like a great piece for our future.

How scary is it that two of our draft picks from 2008 could be in the majors by the end of the year?

Angels @ Sox, 7:11 pm
Can't let Lackey get confident now. We are hitting him well and putting men on base. This game is going to have many many runs if we continue our solid approach at the plate.

I hope I never see Jose start another Sox game. He's back to where he was when he went to the minors. Give Torres or hell even Hudson, but I don't want to watch another Jose Contreras walk fest ever again.

Ozzie doesn't even give him a pat on the ass. He must be ticked.

Adios Jose. Nice knowing you. If you can't throw strikes, you don't deserve to be in the majors.
