  1. ROLF Soriano. Enjoy $18 million per year for five more years Cubs fans. That man is untradeable.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) It's funny that Cortes was given the pitcher of the year award in the organization and then repeated AA. I wouldn't call him a non-prospect yet, but it looks like the Sox didn't lose much there. I honestly can't remember when the Sox have been truly burned by trading away one of their minor leaguers. Young has been a bust pretty much with Arizona minus his rookie year. Reed never hit well enough in the majors and Olivo struggled for awhile. I think those were the biggest prospects we traded until Sweeney, Gio and De Los Santos. Neither of them have burned us so far even though we traded Swish a year later. One thing the Sox do extremely well is evaluating their own minor league talent; they know who should be traded to maximize their value and who should be kept. I actually think they are the best organization in self-evaluating. I only wish they could evaluate draft talent as well they evaluate their own.
  3. This is a huge game. Last memories of the dome are awful when the Sox got swept there. John has been good versus the Twins the last couple times out, but before that they hit him well. I am really excited to see how our new lineup plays in the Dome. I think we can match the Twins offensively there because we have the mashers, but also Twins-type hitters. 2/3 is all I ask.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I don't see the Marlins giving up Hermida or Ross for Dotel. We'd either have to subsidize the leftover $2-3 million on Dotel's deal or send another prospect or two along to sweeten the pot, like a John Shelby III and Omogrosso/Santeliz/Ely/Nunez/Harrell caliber of pitcher. I think the Sox would definitely be willing to do that. Maybe not the money so much, but definitely adding another prospect, especially if it of those caliber. They are solid minor league players who are fringe major leaguers, if they even get that far. Dotel + third-tier Prospect for Hermida would be one the best moves in this organization's history, IMO.
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) I'm a Hermida fan too and wanted him over the offseason, but in a Jenks deal I'd want a lot more. For Dotel I think the deal would be pretty fair from the Marlins side because Hermida is a guy who will be getting too expensive for them rather quickly. And the Marlins have made some shockingly weak moves, like giving up Olsen and Willingham for half of their value last year. The problem is where Hermida would play if CQ comes back healthy. I guess Dye could DH when Thome sits with Hermida in RF, and then Pods could be kind of like the rotating OF. But unless Hermida could play CF in the Cell it would still be hard to get everyone AB's. Cody Ross is having a great year and he had a nice year last year too. Don't know a whole lot about him though, but he's a CF. The point is, if the Marlins are prepared to give up a lot for an arm then we should look to exploit that fact with Dotel. You worry about that later. Hermida can be Dye's replacement in 2010 in RF and you can see if Dye would sign as a DH. Your outfield would be set with Q/Pods/Hermida as Pods will probably get a one-year deal with the Sox to bridge the gap to Danks in 2011. The money saved from losing Dye or Thome can go to a FA like Figgins. Then your lineup looks like Pods/Figgins/Q/Dye/Konerko/Ramirez/AJ/Beckham/Hermida. That's a damn good lineup. Regardless of where you can play him right now, if you can buy low on a guy like Hermida, you do so.
  6. I love how Rich Harden sucks. I have no idea what happened to him, he was dominate last year and all the years before. He just was injured. Now, he just plain sucks.
  7. I would definitely trade Dotel for Hermida, I really don't even care about the dip that our pen would take, subtracting a quality arm even though he has struggled. Hermida is a stud plain and simple who for some reason hasn't put it all together. Still he has had some solid years and could be a 30 HR guy at the cell. I have always loved him, especially after he owned the Cubs last year. However, I don't think the Marlins would have traded Hermida straight up for Capps, nor do I think they would give him up for Dotel. I also would legitimately consider Jenks for Hermida because Hermida's upside is tremendous and we have a lot of quality arms, but ultimately would probably need another piece along with Hermida to give away Bobby.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:46 AM) My nails are short 24/7 because I bite them way too much. Like to the point where it hurts. I do that, too, unfortunately. My habit had been much worse, but I still am a big biter. Haven't had to cut my nails for the last ten years at least.
  9. People think being a homer is a bad thing for a home-town broadcasters, which I completely disagree with. You want to know your announcer is feeling the ultimate highs with you and ultimate lows. I love Hawk and his silly catchphrases and the "hell yes." I will admit sometimes he goes a little far, saying how that one pitch right there totally impacted the game and such because it really doesn't. Sure it could affect the game, but if one pitch determined the outcome of a game, the team didn't do their job. Overall, I love him though. You need to be a Sox fan to appreciate him. If he was the announcer of any other team, all of that team's fans would love him. He bleeds Sox baseball, just like I do.
  10. If Steeger signs, that puts us over the cap, no? Unless, the deal is severely backloaded, which wouldn't make sense. Regardless, someone has got to go. Please someone want Campbell.
  11. Anderson: Quit trying to the pull the ball every damn time. If the pitch is away, hit it to right field. Also, you suck.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Anderson is now 6-45 vs LHP. I can't wait for CQ to get back. What a reverse from last season.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) Scotty Pods new hitting mechanics are fantastic. This might be an area where we need to give Walker some credit. There is no way Walker could have conceived Scotty Pods hop-skip-and-a-jump swing. I gotta think that was all Pods.
  14. When was the last time Anderson didn't pull the ball?
  15. Why not bring up Carlos Torres who had destroyed AAA and see what he can do in the sixth inning? If he performs well, which I think he would, you keep Allen and move him for a bigger fish.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) If KW could find a way to trade Contreras/Dotel for a big package (spare me the gay jokes), I would love it. I spit out my ice cream just reading this.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) I've got a bad vibe for this game. Hope I'm wrong. Yeah, the Indians rough Buehrle up a lot and it seems like Mark is due for his one horrible start.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) Pena has a great arm and Allen was overrated by a lot of people. Sox have a lot of guys that play 1st/3B and Pena is a young guy that fits and can replace one of Dotel/Linebrink. I liked ALlen but didn't love him like others did. Viciedo and Flowers both project much better and one of them will probably end up playing 1B. Plus you have Phegley and there is a guy named Paul Konerko whose been pretty good and still has at least a few good years left. Oh and did I mention 1st baseman aren't that difficult to find in general so again, it isn't that huge of a deal to trade a 1st base prospect unless he's a top 50 spect and Allen isn't that. I think this is a big part of not hating the deal, but seriously, Pena is mediocre. Allen could have been in a bigger package or certainly netted you a better overall player than a 27-year-old reliever with average numbers.
  19. This move also might signal that the Sox view Viciedo as a future first baseman.
  20. we may overvalue Allen a bit, but his power is real. Just looked at what he did in B-Ham last year in so few at-bats, and mind you B-Ham is a brutal hitter's park. He also is pretty darn athletic at first base and really has cut his strikeouts down. I just don't understand how a guy like Shelby can't net you a mediocre, 27-year-old reliever, because he probably could have.
  21. I hate this move. Allen could have been a solid first baseman. Pena is mediocre. Horrible move, IMO. We'll see how it works out though.
  22. JB, what a blast from the past.
  23. On paper we should dominate tonight...on paper. Let's get our mojo back and be in first by the all-star break. Mark is our slumpbuster, go get 'em. Tonight would be a nice night for Beckham, Nix, Fields rounding out the bottom of the order. And although Castro went yard last time against him, I still want AJ in there.
  24. My first was on November 15th, 2003. Wow I was a sophomore in high school, scary. Well he hit more than 30 HRs after 2003, but I was right on the roids
