What was/is more special to you?
I love the Bears so much, but in my life, I am a die-hard White Sox fan first. Bears, Bulls and lllini hoops are second in the ladder not to far off, but for me baseball is my favorite sports and thus the White Sox meant more.

Sox Sign Erstad
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Wait, has it been said anywhere that this is a minor-league deal? Just cause you are given a major league doesn't restrict you from being sent to the minors. Nobody is gonna hand him a job just because he got a major league deal, he still has to earn it and Ozzie and KW knows that more than anybody.

Sox Sign Erstad
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) Because he's not a .300 hitter any more, his defense has diminished greatly, and you know he's not going to be a backup because there's no way Ozzie sits a veteran for a 2nd year player. Erstad is here to compete for a job, Ozzie will not hand him the job. If he plays well in ST and starts, he is likely fully healthy and ready to be a starter, if not, he can be released, go to the minors or be a bench player. This deal has no downside.

Sox Sign Erstad
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) too much What a horrible signing. Huh? Why would this be a terrible signing, we have the money and its for a maximum of two years, so it really has no barring on our financial future. What's wrong with it? If he is healthy he can be a .300 hitter in the lineup, if not, he is a backup all over the place. Another typical KW move, low risk/high reward.

Sox sign three to minor league deals: Wiki Gonzalez, Kenny Kelly and R
Ryan Bukvich's name got cut off, he was the third.

you gotta figure he would want a chance to win with his last run in the pros. I would love him and would easily have him start over pods.

SoxFest: who is going?
I wish I was going. Have been there for the last three SoxFests and unfortunately due to college, I won't be making the trip. Always one of the best weekends of the year.

Are we really out of contention this coming season?
In our division there is no dominant team. Detroit will have World Series syndrome meaning injuries to their pitching staff as well as the high expectations, Minnesota has one reliable starting pitcher, Cleveland has no bullpen and a crappy defense and KC simply sucks. Personally, whoever gets hot in April, I think, will be the team to win the division.

TV on the WEB
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) Ya, thats going to be really sweet. Especially since I'm out of town on business a lot. In this case I could access my cable box through my laptop and than watch MLB Xtra innings and the Sox game via that. yeah, SlingBox, its already out. I got it for my birthday and it works well. the pic quality comes in and out, but at its worst its fine and the audio is perfect. Looking forward to using tomorrow for the Bulls game tomorrow for the first time in college. I would recommend it to anyone, mine was $160 and has no monthly fees or service charges, one time fee and it actually works.

Crede contract info from Tribune
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) I'm fairly certain that Rick Hahn is Kenny's backup in these situations, and has worked with Boras clients in the past. It is Hahn and ironically, Dwight, in your sig and Rick Hahn went to the same high school at about the same time.

OFFICIAL 24 RETURNS THREAD
I think Chloe's husband is the guy we all think is bad, but then turns up good this year. I agree with Nadia, she looks like a traitor. And Palmer's aid, dont know his name, but the small guy seems like he has some objectives of his own. Cant wait till tonight.

How did you get into the Sox?
My mom worked for the Sox for many years and my dad was a Mets/Sox fans growing up, so I have taken a liking to both teams. But since I live in Chicago, I am a die-hard White Sox fan and a semi-Met fan. I am as die-hard as it comes which many of you guys are as well, and in my opinion I would rather get uber-emotional about them than caring normal amounts.

Chris Stewart Traded to Texas for RHP John Lujan
i guess i like the move, if he can harness his stuff, but like people have mentioned we have 0 catching depth. However, Gustavo Molina is a defensive stud, as well.

AAP: Jerry Owens
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) Yeah, I never understood the uber love for him that many have. He had a poor year at Charlotte last year, but he does draw walks at a decent rate. I wouldn't consider this guy a future MLB starter. I think he would have better numbers as a starter this year than Podsednik. Plus, he would steal bases at a better percetage and play better defense (even if its only a marginal difference.) I completely agree that he is not a starter, but nor is Pods. Ideally, he is the 4th outfielder of the future.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) This is what I meant. The Pilot is all I have watched so far on Season 1 DVD. Seinfeld is one of my fav shows of all time and the pilot was brutal. Seinfeld was ok in season 1, good in 2-4, but then from season 5 and on, it had by far the best writing of any show I have ever seen. The way they incorporated everybody to everything was amazing. But, yeah, the Seinfeld pilot was horrible.

How did that TD stand? There was clear evidence for that not being a touchdown.

2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) The White Sox are listed as possible suitors for the comeback of Jim "huge cup" Parque. Didn't Parque leave the Sox with anger. I see no reason why Parque would have any shot here nor why we would even fathom brining him and his gopher balls back.

Soxtalk Community Prediction: Paul Konerko
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) Actually, this would be a pretty nice list to be on. Player_________________ AB GIDP Cal Ripken__________ 11,551 350 Hank Aaron__________ 12,364 328 Carl Yastrzemski____ 11,988 323 Dave Winfield_______ 11,003 319 Eddie Murray________ 11,336 316 Jim Rice_____________ 8,225 315 Julio Franco_________ 8,587 310 Harold Baines________ 9,908 298 Brooks Robinson_____ 10,654 297 Rusty Staub__________ 9,720 297 Kong is currently #151 on the list with 172 GIDP in 4,561 AB. He's always been at about 4% of his AB. To catch Ripken he would need to play about 8 more seasons at his current level. Should he also average 32 Dings a year during that span he will get to 500 at age 38. Not impossible (4 yrs @ 40 + 4 yrs @ 23) and coupled with his squeaky clean record, ALCS MVP and WS grand slam I think it could put him in the Hall. He may hit 500 home runs, but now 500 homeruns is not an automatic Hall of Famer since so many people are reaching it. I agrtee that Paulie has a squeeky clean resume, but he would, IMO, have to win an couple of MVPs or at least one coupled with the 500 home runs to have a shot. Realistically, Paulie has never been a top 5 player at his position at any time, this fact will really hurt him since he has never been elite, just uber-solid.

BA's take on McCarthy/Danks
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) I'll make the pessimistic (shocking, I know) prediction that he'd never last 30 starts. From everything I've seen and heard, I'd be stunned if he had an ERA less than 5.50 starting in the AL. I think he can be around 5, but I agree with you that he will not get 30 starts. At least this time around, we have 3-5 more options we can go to.
