7/18 Games
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Now that we are seeing a couple promotions do you think there are more to follow? For example for players like Lumsden, Broadway, Whisler, Carter, etc. Carter definately. The Sox--and Carter for that matter--need to see that he can hit non-rookie ball pitching. He should be moved up within a week or two if he continues hit. Lummy will remain in AA for the year, most likely, but I can see Lance getting a couple starts with Charlotte. Whisler could move up as well, but in the Barons rotation there is no room. But, if Lance gets promoted, Wes would likely take his place.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Huge day for sweeney. Now it's time to start hitting on the road. His SLG at home is up to .522. That sounds impressive, but on the road he's just .327. I guess that helps prove the notion that Charlotte is a hitters ballpark.

He was also on ESPN 1000. He talked about how it is all predicated on the five horseman getting their act together.

Wes Whisler...The Anti-Freddy Garcia
While Freddy has given up a high total of 22 home runs, Wes has not given up one this year in over 105 innings. While his overall numbers are very impressive, giving up 0 home runs is equally as impressive. At 23 years old in High A, he can't be considered a great prospect, but certainly he is good. Being a 2nd round pick with four potential above average pitches, people knew he had it in him. Now he is starting to put it together. He really needs to be pushed into AA. My suggestion would be Whisler for Rodriguez, Malone up to Charlotte, Harrell to AA maybe as well. Wes needs to imrove his strikeout to walk ratio, but he solid hits given up per nine innings and is obviously doing a superb job keeping the ball down. If nothing else, he can be a good reliever because he is 6-5, left-handed, keeps the ball down and has four average to above average pitches. He is finally on his way. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil..._pbp&pid=452217

Next Starting Pitcher
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) I especially see Phillips getting traded. They have to make a decision on him, either he gets put on the 40 man after this season or he's eligible for Rule 5. With his numbers this year and the fact he's lefthanded, one would think some lower level team would pluck him. So unless the White Sox have plans for him, they oughta get something via trade. Several of our minor league posters that have seen Phillips pitch many times don't seem too excited about him. I have only seen him pitch in the AAA All-Star game and he looked damn good. i honestly think he could do better than Garcia, Vaz and Garland, #'s wise. I could see him with a 4.50 ish ERA, which is better than our back 3 and Mark right now. Obviously, he won't get the opportunity to start for the Sox so we can see what he's got, so I agree with you Jim, that he will probably be traded.
