  1. I have to respectively disagree with you KHP about Diego/Guida, that was definitely a FOTY candidate for me. I am really looking forward to the Kampmann/Swick fight. Big Nog was on the front page of ESPN.com as their main headline after he won last night. I would like to see Nate/Hendo fight and have Anderson fight another fight at 205 or he and Mir have been talking smack lately, have that at HW.
  2. In the post fight conference Dana announced Randy signed a six fight extension replacing the contract he was on. I assume that was given to keep him away from Strikeforce and because even at 46 he is still in excellent shape and capable of hanging with top fighters. It's still unknown if he will fight at HW or at 205.
  3. as long as it is just a lingering effect of the line drive I'm not overly worried, I just hope it's not a new injury.
  4. Great main event and a very entertaining night of fights.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Wow are they desperate. I don't see it as desperate, it's a low risk high reward at this point. I said earlier in this thread if KW only had to give up a low A prospect I would like the Sox to roll the dice on him. If Peavy comes back next week, roll the dice with a rotation of Floyd/Danks/MB/Peavy/Harden for the last 3 and a half weeks.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) huh, yesterday they were saying it was NL teams that claimed him and Heilmann I thought I heard NL team for Heilmann and unknown for Harden. It will be interesting to see if they work something out. They should get good crowds because the last games in the Dome, but I could see them claiming him to block the White Sox or Tigers from getting him
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) MMAJunkie on fire http://mmajunkie.com/news/15993/while-merg...y-real-soon.mma So the TV deal sounds even more likely than it did a few minutes ago, and it sounds like we'll be getting the big-name bantamweights and featherweights in the UFC. I'd have mixed feelings about that because it would really hurt the quality of the WEC broadcasts, which are AWESOME, and the Chael Sonnens of the UFC world water down the excitement of the lighter weight fighters, but at the same time, those bantams and feathers are a great way to showcase tremendous skill and grow the sport, plus those guys deserve to be stars whom are compensated like the other big stars in the company are. Dana sums up many of my feelings on Woman's MMA. The top fighters in the lower weights to UFC might just end up being a business decision because those guys are marketable and the current WEC model doesn't lend itself to them getting paid enough. I think they are at risk of losing those guys to Strikeforce and/or Japan if they don't pay them more, and the easiest way to do that is to bring the top guys into the UFC.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Looks like the UFC TV deal is pretty close and they're looking counter Fedor-Rogers with a BJ-Diego title fight. http://mmajunkie.com/news/15992/penn-vs-sa...adcast-deal.mma Interesting, it will be big if it's any network, but if it's ESPN/ABC it's enormous.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) nationals win 5-4, macdougal is 14 of 15 in saves, ERA just under 2.00 for WAS. Why the hell couldnt he do that here??? the national league makes pitchers look a hell of a lot better than they really are
  10. and the Cubs just lost 2/3 to the Nationals... so it's a bad start to that "easy" home schedule that was going to propell them back into the race!!
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) Heilman?? Wow, someone must be VERY desperate for a bullpen arm/depth. Harden could be intriguing, he could really help a contender needing a #3 or #4. Would the Cubs actually trade him away, telling their fans that they are officially giving up on the season?? Hes a free agent, so it would only save them a million or so, so it wont be for the money. The smart move would be to move him. From my understanding their farm system isn't very deep and they could probably get a good A-ball prospect out of it. Like you pointed out he's a FA and I don't think the Cubs are even stupid enough to bring him back next year for anything longer than a one year, but he can probably get at least a 2 year on the market. Even though he's a huge health risk, if KW can swing the extra million I wouldn't mind the Sox being the team if they give a A ball prospect up for him
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) I was laughing out loud watching that. That's really well subtitled. as others have pointed out there's many of them for other teams or players and a lot are funny. There was a Cubs one floating around that was funny as well. I think the part where Hitler says something and all the guys kind of look at each other uncomfortably and there's silence was a line about Wood or Fukudome and it made me laugh my ass off Hopefully someone updates the Cubs one after this year with the main focus on Hitler acting like this team can turn around under new ownership and the guys pointing out how Ricketts had to scrounge for money just to afford the team, how bad the minor league system is and how so many of the players are coming back with bad contracts.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) God Tyler Flowers is an exciting looking prospect. Kenny's big game talking him up, and Tyler is backing it up. lol, old KW makes me think that he'll be packaged for a player in Dec!
  14. This is where it's so important that Cooper and the Sox staff get familiar with Peavy's old tapes to make sure if he pitches he's not changing his mechanics to compensate for the elbow and hurt something else.
  15. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/strikefor...rs-booked-19325 ....and it's Fedor vs. Rogers. I guess this makes the most sense at this point, Alistair hasn't fought in the U.S. since '07 and is fighting on the next DREAM card anyway. No date or venue, seems like they'll try and do it right before or after a scheduled UFC event to try and make it difficult for them to scheudle a live show against them.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) Marshall, Royal, and who? Rivers had LT, Sproles, Gates, and Vincent Jackson. Rivers also had a D that gave up about a touchdown less per game
  17. now tied for 2nd 4 games out... O's relief pitcher retires M & M in a tie game then proceeds to lose the game...
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) People better get used to him. We still have him for a couple more years with a no trade clause contract. if he's like this next year and KW thinks there's viable options he may get DFA'd and the Sox just eat his money
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Wainwright is awesome. He just doesn't make mistakes. Like at all. He doesn't hang his curve and his fastball moves. he and Carpenter in a 5 game series is going to be ridiculously tough and if one of Loshe/Piniero/Smoltz can step up they're insanely tough in a 7 game. Although, we shouldn't be discussing Cardinals in the playoffs, because from what I've heard and read the Cubs have a bunch of home games against .500 teams, so they'll make the playoffs pretty easily.
  20. like many other games the BP is getting way too much garbage, yeah they weren't good, but this game is squarely on the O IMO
  21. not political, but I know this is an unpopular opinion. The Sports Guy on ESPN.com is overrated. His early stuff was good, but he retreads too much of his stuff. Someone put together a website where you could mad lib style a column of his and the end result isn’t that funny because it’s strikingly similar to 90% of his columns. Then his “serious” or “heartfelt” columns are kind of journalism 101 and too long. Also, some of the stuff about him living poor etc. during Pedro's run in Boston is laughable because he is a CT Prep school kid who went to Holy Cross. It just smacks of the song "Common People" by Pulp. Carolla told a story on Loveline about how he guess he was his friend because there's no other word to describe their relationshop but he couldn't really relate with him because on his 16th b-day his step-dad gave him a Porsche... I guess that sums it up for me.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) He had 1 year remaining on his contract and he had just left the super bowl. That was an unavoidable move. If Rivers had played through this season there might have been some serious talk about him if the Chargers couldn't extend him. It'd be Rivers and Orton as the top 2 QB's on the market next offseason, and you never want to go through the franchise tag mess with a franchise QB. Wasn't there talk that the Cowboys might have wanted Lovie then? I think so because I remember thinking it would have been better for the Bears to let that happen.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) You just gotta tip your cap to the Red Sox tonight. They had some very patient ABs. that's their MO, and obviously they took advantage of it, but the Jose error was ridiculous and completely changed the complexion of this game
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) One down, nine to go. We are brutally overmatched. Anybody think this'll be the closest game of the Bosox series? Jose? Wow. I think Gavin will show up... he pitched a lot better in the O's game than his final numbers said... how Ozzie didn't use Randy or Thorn to turn around Roberts, I'll never know
