F*** it, I've Got This. White Sox vs Cubs 7:10 first pitch
SoxFan562004 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) I thought of that, too. The protection in the lineup thing helping Paulie. But when you see pitchers just go after Dunn and whiff him, it doesn't make sense. Dunn isn't even walking much any more is he? Pitchers are just whiffing him away. I know, that's what I can't figure out. It's one thing when they dropped him to 7th and Omar was hitting behind him, pitchers literally gave him nothing to hit, but at this point if I'm an opposing manager I can't let PK beat me, Dunn or whoever is hitting behind PK has to do it, but PK is still getting FBs to hit. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Also, the fact that OBP/walks are so important today and when he came in, that was a missing part of his game. which is odd logic IMO on those guys parts... he was in his early 20's, adjusting to a completely new country with a lot of money and things he's never experienced. His raw tools should have been evaluated and the OBP/walks should have been a concern, not the reason to completely dismiss him like some "experts" did.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) Walker tallks just too talk, he has not helped GB much at all. GB needs a new approach from someone new. it's a major flaw of this org... they don't expect Walker to drastically help hitters and then they get upset, see Nick Swisher's stint, if guys go to outside help.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Great post. I just can't see pinch hitting for the big fella. He's supposed to be all everything and is failing. But did we sign him thinking he'd never face a lefty? I think you have to pretend he's the old Dunn and let him bat. If he fails he fails. That said, I wouldn't be against a fake DL stint for him to once again try to get his act together. I'm pretty sure they can use "anxiety" for the DL, I think it might have entered that point for him. I know I'm in the minority and outside of about a 7 game stretch he has done nothing to make me think this but, I think he'll turn it around. At this point he won't end up with 40/100, but I can see 25/70ish... which would be a letdown coming into the season, but 18 HRs and abput 45 RBIs would help. I was thinking the last game or two... is Paulie absolutely that red hot or are teams still respecting Dunn behind him a little or is it a mix of both? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:41 PM) I don't know how Paulie does it, but he's been so good the past 2 seasons and more. But the past 2 seasons he hasn't even ever had a cold spell has he? Knock on wood. If he doesn't make the all star game they should just cancel the game. he's not attempting to pull every single pitch he sees and he's easier on himself after a failure. His cold snaps were long stretches where he what attempt to pull everything. Since he's been red hot the last year and a half or so he is seemingly using a better approach. Even an out to the right side of the field can benefit a hitter down the line. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:38 PM) Oh. Well I guess the Dunn signing looked good on paper, Heads. But he's turned into yuk. are you seriously just writing it off completely? obviously he's been a major disappointment until now, but he's still got over a half a year left and a few years, let's see if he settles in some. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) I was saying you can't pinch hit for him because of his salary and how much the team is "counting" on him this year and years to come. In terms of trading for him, yes, being big n somewhat fat is a concern or should be for GMs. Apparently he can't catch up to fastballs and is frozen on curves. Is the gut a concern? I am no expert. I dunno. they absolutely can pinch hit for him, if some of this is mental then the damage of him looking horrible against a LHP or getting pinch hit for is probably neutral. From what I've seen, he's missing a ton of mistake pitches. He is going to K a lot no matter what, even if he heats up and hits 10 HRs in 20 games or something, he is going to K a significant amount of times, he just looks that much worse since he's not hitting the ball out of the park on a regular basis. Perfect example was in Arizona, I believe, when PK hit one, Dunn K'd and Rios hit a homer... Dunn has 2 great pitches to hit and fouled them off where in the past he likely demolishes one of those pitches. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) I have to think that if they mentioned his deal on tv that they extended him with an easier work schedule, but who knows. I hope he doesn't go. He is the only guy in the E who gives realistic promos. Meltzer hasn't heard of any extension being done but seems to think there's a good chance he'll stay when a month or so ago he was gone. It would be a shame if he left. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) greg, you still haven't answered me. Should we just ignore all of Dunn's past production? Can we use that same standard with other players? as I said in the win thread... this is not to excuse his poor hitting this year, but at this point and with a lefty with that violent of splits, Castro or Beckham should have taken that AB, with his current struggles there's zero point in Dunn taking that AB -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) sorry but the ineptitude of Pierre, Dunn and Rios needs to be addressed that game should not have been close the f***ing bunting and weak infield popups makes it look like 6 pitchers, konerko, Ramirez and Quentin nice job by santos not to excuse Dunn for his poor play this year, but with Grabow's splits, at this point Castro or Beckham should have had that AB. Overall, yeah, those guys are struggling mightily. Pierre needs to be DFA'd ASAP, but that bunt 2nite bought him another month or so.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) I think Serg found his slider again... eh, slowly, there were a couple there that they were lucky it wasn't 3-3, but hey, it got the job done. It's mind numbing as to how poorly this team has played and they're only 4.5 out of first. I know that the longer that is said the later the season gets, but my goodness, they have played some terrible baseball. With that said, AWESOME job by the pitching staff 2nite.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 06:52 PM) Ya but Humber struck out twice and left 3 on base, that's unacceptable. Wait until the line-up comes out for today, Ozzie might just have him bat leadoff and play LF with those numbers
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) It's so hard in my mind. I want the Sox to win, but I want Pierre to fail miserably at everything he does so he finally is benched. But by rooting against Juan, I am sort of rooting against the Sox. he has done that and he hasn't been benched. I blame Ozzie everyday he's in the line-up, but at this point this is on KW, he needs to be DFA'd and taken away from Ozzie.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) What kind of watch can help you be multiple places at the same time? I need to get myself a snoopy watch! haha, I wish it was that magical, but I just meant I actually need to be aware of the time and not constantly pulling out my phone to check.

hell yeah. the Phillip Humber Party Train won't be derailed!!!

Daniel Hudson just bent KW over and violated him.

all I can say is it's a weird year. I actually agree with the Hawk. The fact that Detroit or any other team hasn't buried the Sox this year is a bad idea. Now, that is a lot on the Sox. They obviously have to play MUCH better. It drives me crazy because the simple move of either DFA'ing Pierre or not starting him and bringing the Tank up makes this team significantly better is SO obvious. -

No he didn't. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) If Tank were a part of any other organization, he would be in the majors now. I think there is a better chance of Kenny calling up Whisler than Tank. I hate to make such a bold statement, but if they DFA Pierre and call up Tank, even 5.5 back, I would say Sox are favorite in the division. Juan is like having a pitcher in an AL lineup

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) That's acceptable, at least for the time being. I agree, in a perfect world not he best option, but Pierre being horrible brings so many options into play of what is better. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Yeah, they are just jewelry nowadays. I hate wearing a watch myself. So annoying. I'm an attorney, so I actually need my watches when I have to be multiple places, so I even have a Snoopy watch I wear if I don't want to be too fancy!

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) However the CBA works, they will get to keep Wade/Lebron, its Bosh thats up in the air. For all I said bad about Wade, he really stepped up in the finals, its just a question of Wade/Lebron playing that way together. It just doesnt seem to happen like it should. Losing Bosh could potentially even help them because they may not feel the need to force it a third guy. As long as they have Wade/Lebron Miami is going to be a nightmare team. They're going to be tough with those two, but no matter how talented a team is, nothing is ever guaranteed. Health issues could pop up, LBJs curious vanishing act in the 4th could become the norm, they might not entirely jell and other things can occur.
-
can't wait to see Stern hand Cuban the trophy. Really great, LBJ was just anointed by ESPN and others. He may have all time talent, but he's a long ways away from proving he's an all time great player.
-
awesome. Really enjoying this outcome as a sports fan.

I have a Nixon and a Rolex. Like others have said, I love my Rolex but don't wear it too much because not wanting to get jacked over it. Love the Nixon watch, constantly get compliments on it.

Bobby Fischer vs. the World, the HBO documentary, is outstanding.
