  1. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) I wonder who the next scapegoat will be after those two start hitting again. Juan Pierre... and rightfully so
  2. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) Graham Godfrey will make his major league debut against us tonight. So let's welcome him to the big leagues with home runs. can someone post a quick scouting report on him? As long as he is not a junk balling lefty, I have some hope the Sox can get to him.
  3. Unfortunately it's an org wide culture of putting players in bad/akward situations, be it on or off the field. The rumors of Ozzie not liking Brian Anderson because of something with his sons, the org's apparent stance that Greg Walker is not there to make mechanical changes or being anything more than a sounding board for hitters, but if Nick Swisher asks his dad for help with his swing he's rumored to be taken to task on it, Ozzie's constant bizzare statements, etc.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) Like bunting with guys who can't bunt? Ozzie's good at managing a clubhouse, but he really doesn't give his players the best chance to succeed with some of his on-field decisions. I agree, Ozzie putting his players in bad situations has been his worst decisions lately. Say all you want about what Dunn makes, but putting him in to pinch hit against a lefty specialist with a runner on 3rd and one out was a joke. You need a contact guy there, and even at his peak performance that isn't a good situation for Dunn. Omar Vizquel would have been perfect for that.
  5. There's really zero reason Pierre is still on this team since he contributes nothing and doesn't really have the potential of contributing. A rotation of Beckham/Lilly at leadoff would be fine. Not ideal, but Juan is terrible and it's better than running him out there everyday. KW really needs to make this decision for Ozzie and DFA him.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) The problem is that he only made 3 of them. It was probably a good idea he stopped shooting. He was having an off-day. Sportscenter just showed about 5-6 plays of LBJ completely standing still on offense in the 4th, he needs to at least move around and be a decoy. However, he played some quality defense. The funniest thing was they showed his pregame speech and it sounded so unnatural, basically sounded like somebody gave him some talking points and he just kept repeating them.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) UZR thinks that Youkilis has been slightly below average so far this year and I think most red sox viewers seem to agree, they miss having Beltre out there defensively...but I think their biggest concern is actually keeping Youkilis healthy. They can't exactly move him back to 1b now, and they still have Ortiz at DH for this season. thanks. And of course by saying it was "painful" to see Youkilis let those balls go through, I meant "totally awesome" because a few were key RBI hits for the White Sox.
  8. he's a solid player, and love that the left side of the IF is so strong defensively. Now, it might have been an blip since I don't watch a ton of Red Sox games, but seeing Youk at 3b during that series was painful, there were balls that I thought would have been a step above a routine play getting into RF, I'm glad Morel has good range, sure hands and takes away a decent amount of hits.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) But they have a lot more money coming off the books too. True, but Cubs have an expensive stadium that the state basically laughed at when asking for money to help with, and Ricketts has to cut a 30 million dollar check for his debt before dime one is spent elsewhere Biggest thing though is yes, they have money coming off the books, but it's not like their system is brimming with MLB ready prospects to come in and contribute at a high level to make the Cubs competitive. So if Albert has any desire to be on a good team, Cubs will have difficulty doing that. I do foresee a scenario where Albert only cares about biggest deal and Cubs give it to him and they are bad for many years.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Honestly, I have MUCH more confidence in lillibridge than Dunn right now, so I am cool with no Dunn. Just use him as a PH late in the game. or at least as a decoy to burn a LHP out of their pen.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) I assume your YAY is sarcastic? Dunn needs to hit his way out of this slump, sitting on the bench after an off day isn't going to help anything. especially since he is still taking walks and seeing a lot of pitches. Obviously MUCH more is expected from him, but he is contributing a little something still. Basically if you hit him 7th, as they were discussing on MLBN the other night, he is going to get walked a ton because no pitcher or manager wants to be the team that he snaps out of it against at the bottom of the order.
  12. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) I did find it sad that Wade was having a huge game and LeBron couldn't handle it. He wanted to be the hero and ended up costing the Heat the game along with Chris Bosh playing his usual p**** role. it will be interesting to see how they handle the post game press conferences, together, separate, or 2 and 1
  13. Tremendous game to watch... if I'm the Mavs I put EVERYTHING they can into the first quarter in game 3, I think you can still get the Miami team rattled mentally.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:41 PM) Indians, Sox, and Tigers all have 30 quality starts. Indians 23-7 Tigers 20-10 Sox 18-12 Masterson and Tomlin are 18 for 19 in QS. That's not going to last, and that's why they'll come back to earth. I also think Ass Cabrera will cool off, he can still have a hell of a career year and cool off from where he is. Although with offense Santana or Choo can pick up some of his regression. I believe I'm correct that the Sox haven't had any rain outs and Cle and Det have had a handful. I can see that being a bonus for the Sox in the summer where Cle and Det have to play double headers or goofy one day series that will hopefully tax a starting rotation and pen and the Sox will have off days etc... Hey, looking for any silver lining and the team is actually showing signs of life.
  15. and looks like Bos is getting off to a nice early start against Cle. Solid win last night, with a bullpen dump game like that in a stretch of many games without a day of it's so important to win. honestly, are the Sox saying Jeff Marquez would do worse than Pena? At least it would be a different guy being terrible, that alone is worth something!
  16. QUOTE (Art Vandelay @ May 24, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) First of all, thanks everyone for your congrats. Secondly, the company that was supposed to call me back in this story (Company A) NEVER DID. I was really surprised too because we had a great conversation but maybe the recruiter just couldn't get the local office on the same page. Oh well, I am not going to sweat it. yeah, the whole no call or letter back sucks... interviewed with potential co-workers for like an hour, called me back the next day and wanted me to come back in the following day for an interview with the boss, had a great interview then never heard from them... annoying.
  17. just in general it looks OK, i think the idea about ownership of music is good. However, in any situation, if somebody thinks there's money to be made, they'll sue anyway!!! sidenote... these legal sites have actually created some work for attorneys. You wouldn't believe how poorly and generically people fill those things out, I've seen some laughable examples.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) 11:20 start. 35 mins away. hmmm, this can be a total slugfest at this point.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) That's the last line... but are they going to wait another 30-45 minutes and resume? Unless they didn't cancel it to try to make sure as many fans stayed around with the horrible weather, I'm not sure why they would have waited this long.
  20. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) here we go again tarrant co...severe t storm warning. 60 mph winds. last radar I saw looks like there's nothing behind what's there now, so if they haven't called it yet, I hope they just stay and play it.
  21. when I was in college I managed a movie theater and me and the other managers HATED shift switching. Obviously we would prefer we had an employee there rather than an empty slot, but even jobs at movie theaters schedules were made so we had a balance of things employees were good at or to keep other employees away from other employees. Also, when dealing with part-time jobs it was obviously a lot of students or people with other jobs, so we highly encouraged employees to get us their needed times off and even would take calls while making the schedule, so when there were a ton of swaps it was annoying, again with the understanding of emergencies or last minute things popping up. A few people even stopped getting scheduled because if given 4 shifts a week all four would be swapped out. Sorry, just pet peeve I had, any other managers experience this?
  22. lots of rumors, nothing confirmed from Zuffa, but looks like Nick Diaz/GSP will be the next TUF coaches and will fight later this year. Makes sense, but I imagine Zuffa will have had to talk to Showtime and came to some sort of agreement. Nick is still on a SF contract and outside of Fedor, he has proven to be SF's best draw. Zuffa took over those SF/Showtime contracts, and just picking Nate and putting him in the UFC would give Showtime a legit argument that Zuffa isn't executing the SF/Showtime deal in good faith. However, I've seen lately that Zuffa and Showtime are getting along well and alternatives for Showtime to agree to it are numerous. They can always use some UFC fighters with some name value on SF Showtime cards, Zuffa could promote Showtime boxing PPVs, and on and on. Hopefully it happens, it makes sense. Unfortunately Aldo is hurt again and out of his fight with Mendes. UPDATE: If there were anything to the rumors, nothing came of them. Michael Bisping and Mayhem Miller will coach the next season of TUF, with their match on the Spike finale show in Dec.
  23. QUOTE (DukeofChicago88 @ May 20, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) We don't hit Lilly particularly well do we? haven't looked at the numbers, but he's a left handed pitcher without overpowering stuff, sounds like a pitcher that would do well against the Sox
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I was considering typing that, but Pods never dropped fly balls like Pierre has. I still find it ironic that Pods made a game saving catch at the wall in Game 2 of ALCS against none other than Orlando Cabrera. not defending Juan's D at all this year, but his horrible play souldn't take away from how awful Pods was in the OF, many of the balls Juan got to and looked fairly routine and got, Pods would have spun his wheels and not even got a chance to make an error
