QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) Unfortunately there's plenty of reason to think AJP wont hit. he's a catcher, last year was his first year full year he had under .700 OPS. I'm not expecting him to go crazy or anything, but in 08 and 09 he posted a .728 and .755 respectively, if he can be at or between those it will be OK. I'm not expecting a miracle from the guy, but I wouldn't be shocked if he as an OK year. He's had a positive WAR with the White Sox, nothing crazy, but solid enough.

in a perfect world some of the reported mechanical changes Flowers has made are for the positive he continues to progress at the plate and on defense all year, next year he serves as a #2 catcher with a lot of games and then he can take over in 2013.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) I don't think anybody said he sucks or that he will always suck. The fact is, though, that he hasn't been healthy for this team yet. And yes, a sore rotator cuff is pretty bad news. There is good reason to be angry at him for never being healthy, and plenty of reason to think that he's prone to injury. And you know what, I don't appreciate you calling me out. You bring absolutely nothing in the way of baseball discussion to this board. You've been doing the same to J4L for the last week, and he's been on this board for years having logical arguments. I honestly can't recall a single post of yours that had any relevance or even more than barely made sense. I'll probably get a suspension for this, but you honestly have no basis for mocking the posts of other people on this board when all of yours are pure garbage. You bring nothing to this board, and I imagine nobody would rather see your posts over those of J4L and, I hope, mine. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) I don't care how much of a competitor Peavy is, or how hard he's trying to come back to be of value to this team. He's nothing but a drain on this team. Go f*** yourself, you glass piece of s***. That can easily be interpreted as "he sucks"

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) FOX News Channel for content maybe, but they do, or use to anyway, run out some quality looking news babes! QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I get all of my news from TMZ and The View. honestly, not as much difference IMO between those and Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc as there should be!

2011 NFL Lockout Thread

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) So, the first article involving the "threat" of having players go to the CFL or UFL pops up today. along those lines of "alternatives" Goodell is saying replacement players aren't in the plans... at least we won't get that charade paraded in front of us. -
in the press conference yesterday Dana completely shut down talk of GSP/Silva, so sounds like one of the camps didn't want a part of it. I would guess Okami is next for Silva and obviously GSP has Shields in about 5 weeks. If GSP wins not 100% sure what is next for him. Penn/Fitch II is set for 4th of July weekend, so I don't think they would want him waiting 2 months then seeing when they can schedule a fight for him. Who knows, the SF stuff really leaves a lot up in the air, the contracts are transferable, wouldn't put it over 50% but wouldn't be shocked if we see Diaz/GSP as one of the first crossover fights.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) It wasn't directed at anyone. But C'mon. We used to clown the Cubs all the time whenever it appeared Wood and Prior were ready to go and they mysteriously had a 'setback.' I didn't buy the bright and shiny Peavy crap from the start. I kept quiet because I didn't want to pollute the board with negative vibes or whatever. But my fury will be unleashed now. but the Sox didn't float those vibes, they didn't plan on him being ready for opening day and they said there would be a setback, completely different than what the Cubs did. In fact the Sox didn't hide him in simulated games or towel drills, they had him pitch in ST games and kept all or at least some of his warm ups in front of the crowds. So some fans can't get a little excited from a guy appearing ahead of schedule? I think many people have taken a cautious attitude with it as well.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) That's a best case scenario. But let this be a final lesson as far as spring training fluff goes. not sure who you're directing that at, if it is the media that's somewhat fair, but for the Sox org, I don't think it fits. At the very beginning of ST they came out and said there would be a setback, but for 3 weeks he pitched a normal schedule of a pitcher, increasing his pitch count with decent velocity for early to mid march. It wasn't until yesterday that the Sox talked about opening day roster, but what were they suppose to do? It's in 2 weeks and he was on track. We'll see, hopefully it's what ptac is talking about with the muscles lacking due to time off pitching and it's what the Sox and doctors expected.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I'd pay to see a Canelo/Cotto fight no doubt, and just want to clear something up when I re-read my post about Canelo, I said he "just stands there" didn't mean he doesn't have good movement/talent, he is just a real trade and bang style fighter. Interesting UFC tomorrow, Shogun/Bones picked up a lot of steam the last few days, on some MMA message boards it's like the dividing line to end all dividing lines. Big fight for Faber, Zuffa pulling for him hard I'm sure so he and Cruz can coach TUF next season with 135 and 145. Faber should win, no disrespect to Wineland, but Faber is a better fighter.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Ask his teammates who lost their runner up trophy. I'm sure all of them weren't there in a 100% honest way either, NCAA is so f'd up. The SAT thing never bugged me, just because the stupid 1 year rule the NBA has and NCAA now benefits from.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 05:47 AM) Oakland A's Andrew Bailey has left his ST with a pain/discomfort in his elbow.. will constult dr. Andruws.. :-/ first part is worrisome enough for the A's, the second part is down right scary.

nobody warming up, so good news is this just seems to be Jake working through things, no immediate signs of any health concerns

Jake getting smacked around now, 3-1 Pads

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) How is Peavy looking? OK, hanging slider more than he has, but getting results.

FINALLY MLB NETWORK IS ON AT&T U-VERSE!!!

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) I think he meant if you wanted to follow the Sox, you would want the extra innings package.. There is like probably between 2-5 Sox games a year on MLBnetwork, nothing spectacular. exactly, and once the season starts MLB Tonight does a good job of giving live cut-ins and updates on all the games -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) So does anyone believe Fedor fights under the UFC banner? Or does his SF contract expire and he goes his own way? all has to do with M-1... Zuffa will never copromote with M-1 under the UFC banner IMO, they may be forced to do it under SF depending on what the contract says. Only way I see Fedor fighting under the UFC banner is if M-1 doesn't have to have co-promotional title and he fights Randy and I only say that because Fedor did solid ratings for his loss against Bigfoot and Zuffa might see some money in it. However, my feeling is no, Fedor won't ever fight under the UFC banner and I wouldn't be shocked if his SF/M-1 deal he just signed is non-transferable like his PRIDE deal was. EDIT: Just saw an article about this, M-1 says Fedor's deal is with Showtime, so the purchase has zero effect. M-1 actually has a show coming up the 25th on Showtime separate from SF, so I wouldn't be shocked if we never see Fedor in anything but an M-1 show from now on.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) I think Showtime has a 2 year contract with Strikeforce, so for at least 2 years they will run pretty much as independent companies and than merge after. true, but it depends what those terms are, ie if showtime has picks of the guys under the deal. UFC/Zuffa can always burn through those deals with fights and leave SF as a "developmental league" and burn through Barnett, Daley's and Fedor's M-1 deal. A lot to be settled, will be interesting
-
basically UFC can renegotiate any SF deal they want, all they have to do is add one UFC fight and it's ample consideration for the fighter to convert their deal to UFC. Although, I'm sure Zuffa will run SF for awhile because they want nothing to do with Daley, Barnett and Fedor's M-1 deal

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) This is Christmas come early..or late. Whatever. I have U450. No Extra Innings Package though? yeah, extra innings may be a different story, but honestly, unless you are a huge fan of one team, IE if I moved to Texas and wanted to exclusively follow the Sox, MLBN does an awesome job -
it's just a call out to push Morel a little, from what's reported, they'll take Morel and his plus defense with Alexi on the left side over Teahen and some decent O and terrible D
-
Word has it that the contracts from SF are so detailed that they will be run as separate promotions for a while. So, don't expect crossover, which will be somewhat odd because Zuffa has long stated they don't want championships to become like boxing. I expect Zuffa to let SF contracts lapse and then "UFC" deals will be signed. IE, Hendo has one fight left on his SF deal, they'll probably give him a can and then reup him with UFC.

wow, that is cool, plan on moving at somepoint this year, so that gives me another TV option, because I do watch MLBN so much that wouldn't consider a service without it -

wow, I haven't seen much of Raw or Smackdown lately, just tried to watch last 10-15 minutes of Smackdown and Michael Cole's character and how he is playing it is terrible, I shut it off. -
Samardzija isn't very good, he hangs far too many pitches. No options and some decent money due to him, so he'll get every last chance
