  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Last day in Arizona today, but the Cub’s are in town so it’s not a bad way to go out. I’ve been to every Sox game and have a couple of observations: Dayan Viciedo not only came to play but the transition to the outfield is going to work. He has a pretty embarrassing pratfall a couple of games ago, but he has a cannon and surprisingly good instinct when the ball comes off the bat. Also, you guys probably know more about this in me, but Dayan got hit in the thumb at the Rangers game. He and Ozzie were laughing about it five minutes later so I’m not overly concerned. Ozzie is incredibly fun to watch watch baseball. Some gems: after Yhency Brazoban of the Rangers balked a balk that was not called. Ozzie shouts to the umpire, “That would have been a balk in the Dominican.” He then shouts to Cox whose in the dugout (Ozzie is sitting in a folding chair between the dugout and home plate) “He’s going to throw a ball in the dirt, just watch!” Sure enough, “See, I know this game! I’m too good for you Coxy!” later he tosses a ball to a young girl who thanks him, “That will be five bucks,” he responds. Classic. Otherwise, Brian Bruney remains the coolest guy on the planet. Jared Mitchell certainly has his legs under him and continues to have the best approach at the plate on the team. Tyler Flowers looks like he’s almost ready. There’s still a lot to like about Lastings Milledge. He has tremendous defensive instincts and he’s not Brent Lillibridge. He also got lost trying to get back to the clubhouse at the Rangers park. a Dayan update for you Thunder, broken thumb, looks like 3-4 weeks, doesn't sound like metal will be put in, so hopefully just a bump and he'll be swinging again soon. PTAC has some great posts about it in the thread.
  2. http://www.abc4.com/media/lib/53/2/a/1/2a1...c9f1b/Story.jpg Friend of mine, he has got a ton of coverage with this pic, was on main page of cnn.com yesterday and he said it was in NY Times and in an L.A. paper as well
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) Japan is one of the most seismically ready countries in the world. The belief is that this won't slow them down much at all, and that their basic infrastructure is just fine. cool, thanks for the answer, that makes a ton of sense.
  4. QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Preety sure this has not been posted yet, but if it has then it deserves to be posted again. my favorite video that came out of the LBJ "decision": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F959ukD6nBc
  5. how long do the tsunami warnings last for the HI and the west coast?
  6. i went with Thor. Think Sale, as good as his stuff is, might have some wildness problems still, nothing major, but something that a team that will potentially be gunning for a division title might not want to deal with. It's not a bad problem to have if Ozzie and the org don't turn it into a problem by having rotating closer. I want to see a closer from day one established and it's that guys job to lose
  7. I just have a very basic understanding of finance, so I am going to ask what will likely come off as a very insensitive question considering the timing, but it is something that truly puzzles me. When I first woke up and saw all the devastation that took place in Japan in the last 6 or so hours I expected to put on cnn.com and see the dow, nasdaq and S&P to be down a big number like 200, 50 and 10 or 20 respectively. However, when I checked they weren't down that much, as I type about 30, 3 and 1. Japan is a big economy, I don't get how it couldn't effect it more, does it have to do with the fact that Japan economy was already weakened some, so it's not like it was an economy that was thriving at this point got hit with a major disaster? Again, this is a very dry question considering what is going on there and I apologize if it offends somebody, not my intention.
  8. Chuck Greenberg out as Rangers managing partner after 7 whole months on the job. Reportedly annoyed people within org and seemingly topper was many in Rangers felt he botched the Lee deal. Source is mainly Heyman.
  9. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) I'd bet that baseball allows him to take his mind off it for a little while where as those things don't. Sometimes that can make a world of difference. again, not saying which is right or wrong and what works for individuals, but sometimes it helps people with these problems NOT to take their mind off their problems, it works for some people to be away at treatment for a short time and give 100% to recovery
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) I agree. I think taking baseball away from him is probably a mistake. Better to get him help and have him still play. Not saying which side is right or wrong, but there is a theory that would say he either needs the consequence of having baseball taken away from him or he needs to step away from it for a short time to focus on his problems. Again, problems like this are so complicated and different plans have worked for all sorts of different people.
  11. Who are you picking for Heat/LAL tonight? I will go with Heat in a close one, almost just because at some point the talent of Wade and LBJ will win out, not scientific obviously. Funny part will be if it is tonight or next week, when Heat win I'm sure they will be dancing all around and ESPN will declare them "fixed", just like when Tiger has a good round.
  12. what boozer look like he hurt? not really near a TV or radio at this point
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) He used to at least get some points on the inside. He used to get 40% of his points inside the paint. He's now at 25% and shooting 70% jumpers. That doesn't sound like a PF. I'm doing this purely off memory of watching him play and analysis of his game, but many of those inside points were cleaning up rebounds, etc... he's never really been a player where you can dump it down to him on the block against a physical or athletic 4 or 5 and he would post up and create... more of a face to the basket type player I believe.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Bosh is getting wasted in Spolestra's system. He's become a tall jump shooter now. It's also made him more of a b****. granted he is seemingly taking a lot of jump shots, but he was never a low post monster with power moves, he is kind of a finesse player
  15. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) I think Bosh regrets going to Miami. I also think the Heat are due, and they'll beat LA. i think Wade and Lebron are probably regretting they included him, they would be much more dangerous if his money was given to 2 "lesser" players who fit better
  16. Another loss for Miami against a plus .500 team.
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) Canelo !! Ricky Hatton is like 250 pounds lol If he keeps his current style Canelo is going to put on some crazy entertaining fights, might not be the best for longterm career, but damn, that guy just stands there and he has some heavy hands.
  18. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) Canelo !! Ricky Hatton is like 250 pounds lol lol, yeah he looked absolutely terrible!!!! I mean I know about the Ricky Fatton thing even when he was fighting, but it looks like the bottle and drugs took a toll on him since he retired.
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) rumor has it Fedors dropping to LHW and is fighting Hendo for the title...AWESOME can you throw a link up please... only thing I heard of this was bloodyelbow.com and that was just a column suggesting it. (EDIT: OK, some of the sites have it up as being discussed by SF and both camps). I wouldn't mind the fight, but not for the title. ACs have said they would sanction 5 round non-title fights if that's an issue... do it at a catch weight. You can't have a guy coming off 2 loses fight for a title at his first time at the weight class, even if that guy is, IMO, the greatest fighter of all time. Makes complete sense from a business standpoint though, Hendo failed to draw great ratings on Showtime again this weekend and Fedor proves to be a solid draw for SF, SF needs to get some mileage out of Hendo's deal.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Trouble is...why would any high-power coach like Jackson or even Riley make a commitment to coach that team next year when they don't even know if there will be a next year. On top of the fact that there's no guarantee you'll be able to find pieces you need in FA if the cap is made stronger. I agree with you about Jackson, only reason I could see Riley possibly doing it is because he is an executive with the team credited for making the big 3 an actual reality.
  21. Even though he and Tirico were constantly calling the bulls the heat and vice versa, it was a great objective job of analysis by Hubie. Real good job consistently saying that heat fade partly because they wear out with their defense intensity
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Derrick called his own number there, he just wanted a clear out and took an ugly shot. I would like to see Boozer get at least a touch in those situations especially against the heat and lack of size
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) They run no offensive sets at all. I'm not the biggest Phil Jackson fan in the world but if you gave him the Heat's roster they would be basically a lock for the title. If Riley thought it was majority coaching he would be on the sidelines. Their roster beyond the three is terrible. The fact that big z plays anytime beyond mop up is laughable
  24. Big turning point to me was when Lebron had a controlled breakaway against korver and pulled up instead of attacking the basket
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I'm shocked they didn't call Noah for that bump when they called the really weak loose ball foul on the other end. I thought any contact would be whistled there. It might have been weak as far as the actual contact but Miller was behind Luol and had a hand on him with an extended arm especially at full speed it looked like a foul
