  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) Then you will have major anti-trust violations. It may be where players have to stay and extra year or two, but making it next to impossible for players to leave is a clear violation of anti-trust laws and will not be allowed by the NBAPA. Also any new rules will have to be collectively bargained and approved by the NBA players union
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) Then you will have major anti-trust violations. It may be where players have to stay and extra year or two, but making it next to impossible for players to leave is a clear violation of anti-trust laws and will not be allowed by the NBAPA. well "next to impossible" was probably worded strongly, but it will likely put in a ton more protections to allow owners a better opportunity to keep their stars, similar to the NFL franchise tags or the like.
  3. it is just so hard to speculate on NBA future right now because of the next CBA. There's a strong possibility that the owners make it next to impossible for superstars to leave.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 05:01 AM) MySpace.. Facebook... etc.. pretty much any internet faze that will die out in the not too distant future. Oh, and Bill Simmons. thank goodness I find a kindred spirit with this now and then, sometimes I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with people's reaction to him.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) This would be a title team with a Dwight Howard on it, even if you had to give up some key players to get him. FWIW, Boers & Bernstein said, and they have good NBA sources, that it's not a given Dwight is going to LA, there's a chance, and people within the Bulls org feel this way, that he will go to Chicago. Again, there's a ton of steps left and who knows what the new CBA is going to look like.
  6. my DVR will be working overtime 2nite... going out for a friends b-day, so have to DVR Bellator, SF and Ricky Hatton's brother is fighting on HBO!
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 12:24 AM) Naturally, this doesn't surprise me. I happen to love Pearl Jam, but most of the people I have ever met that listen to Pearl Jam just basically say "what's so great about this?" I dunno, I just find it awesome. yeah, band are probably the one that would fit most in this thread, many bands that this happens to me as well.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Bibby and Miller aren't that bad. Haslem's alright too. They do lack a true center who can clog the lane up, but when you have two top 5 players on your team, you should be able to make up for a lot of those flaws. They have the personnel and the talent. It has to be more mental and strategic than anything. This Spurs game is a joke, but the Heat always let up after they get a nice lead. This happened in both of the Bulls games and in yesterday's Magic game. They can't let that happen and I think a lot of that has to be on the coaching. If you have enough talent to get that kind of lead, you should have the talent to keep it. I think Bibby and Miller are alright and Haslem is average, but sometimes having two top 10 guys can't make up for certain things, like what the Heat struggle with. Any team with with an active guy who can create penetration off the dribble and either finish or kick out to viable shooters kills the Heat, and unfortunately for them that's what the top NBA teams feature. Do they have roster than can win a title? I'll say yes only because I wouldn't be shocked if they won the title this year, however, I don't see them as favorites and would consider it an upset if they get out of the East at this point. If it was purely coaching, Riley would be on the sidelines, but again, in this NBA I see a flawed roster. They are last in bench scoring, now some of that has to do with the big 3 scoring so much, but it also has to do with them having an extremely thin bench. That matters in the playoffs. They also were thriving on transition until this recent skid, the big 3 are just so flat out athletic that they can just blow lesser teams off the court, but better teams have the discipline and players to slow the game down, and Heat tend to struggle in the half court.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) The Heat are so fail against good teams. It's gotta be coaching, Spolestra has to go. Knicks = lawl. Two loses to freakin' Cleveland. Hahaha. Eat s*** Skip Bayless and ESPN. some of it is coaching, but some of it is it's hard to win with 3 talented players even 2 top 10 guys and basically nobody else, it could look worse in the playoffs when it's even more halfcourt game
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Well, barring a monumental collapse reserved for the Miami Heat, it looks like the Spurs are going to take this (up 101-74 with 10 left). This means the Bulls will head to Miami for Sunday's nooner technically in 2nd place but in a virtual tie with the Heat. Can you say huge game? 1. Celtics: 45-15 2. Bulls: 42-18 4. Heat: 43-19* That game is going to be amazing. *Barring epic collapse by Spurs. I know this is the 3rd game of 11 in a row for the Heat vs. teams over .500, how tough is the bulls schedule?
  11. Heat haven't even shown up in San Antonio for the first 3 quarters
  12. The ESPN proclaimed title contender Knicks just lost to the Cavs... at home.
  13. Pearl Jam... good enough band especially live, but I completely miss out when people say they're great
  14. Looks like Bulls are going to take advantage of a tired Orlando team... nothing wrong with that though, good teams do that sort of thing
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) The eye test is stupid. People have selective memories and are just often flat out wrong. If I need a big 3 I absolutely don't go to James because he is inconsistent from 3 and Miami has guys who are much better from 3. Running a play for Bibby or Miller is the right move in that situation. This same thing goes for the people that go on and on about how clutch Kobe is when there has never at any point in his career been any statistical evidence to support that. Or how about how people's perceptions change over time. Kobe quit on his team against the Suns but now that is never brought up because he is winning again (thanks to Jerry West deciding to give his former team a gift in the form of Pau Gasol). Or like how people act like James completely rolled over and gave up last season in the playoffs against the Celtics (he might have quit at the end of game 5 but they lost that game by 32 anyways) yet he put up 29, 19 and 10 in Game 6. You just can't produce those types of numbers by not trying. He didn't play particularly well but saying he quit is ridiculous. Lebron is a douche but peoples' hatred of him clouds reality. glad you think my suggestion is stupid, way to have a civil discussion.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) Yawn, you definitely don't want James shooting big 3's because he isn't a great 3 pt shooter to begin with but James not being a clutch is a myth. Just like Kobe being clutch or Wade being clutch is a myth. This hasn't been updated in a while (doesn't include last season or this season) but it still is pretty telling http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm. well you can always go by the eye test and results of this year... LBJ hasn't been exactly getting it done at the end of the game lately, why not try something different?
  17. on paper they theoretically have the talent to do it, but if they get they don't get the 1st seed they easily could get Bulls and Celtics in some combination in the 2nd and semi then the western conference winner, I just find it extremely difficult to believe they struggle for this long to beat elite east teams, then they're going to win 3 four game series against 2 elite east teams and the west winner
  18. QUOTE (T R U @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 03:47 AM) I know this is almost a week late, but man Fitch got jobbed in the Penn fight.. how could that possibly have been a draw if BJ put up some sort of fight, even for 30seconds to a minute in the 3rd he loses it. It's the unified scoring rules, it's not outrageous BJ got the 2nd round, had his back going for a finish, sometimes things like that stick in judges minds more than the reversals off of that.
  19. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Diego Sanchez is my favorite fighter in MMA period, but man.. he should not have gotten that decision. Rogan pointed out the extra fat Diego is carrying around his midsection nowadays. He looks very slow out there and showed the "Rocky Balboa Defense". I dont know if the move to this heavier weight is the right move for him, but if he insists..... i want the diego sanchez that went buck wild on clay guida. if he fights a jake shields or GSP he will get absolutely destroyed.. i dont know what he is thinking. his faced was obviously insanely jacked up, but I disagree, 29-28 was correct score for Diego IMO. Really entertaining card, worth checking out the replay if somebody missed it. Also, not an early stoppage in the CB/Munoz fight, he was out, the look on his face when the ref was over him proved it to me, he just recovered quickly.
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) I just don't think long - term, Chris Bosh is the right fit on that team. They don't win the title this season, people are going to speculate about whether they can do sign and trade deals for the likes of Deron Williams and Chris Paul for 2012 FA involving Bosh IMO. based on pure speculation only, I've been saying for awhile that I won't be shocked if Bosh is moved for 2-3 role player types. LBJ's guys will get in his ear that it's all Bosh's fault and that will be it. Depending on what the new CBA looks like, it will be tough to add another guy like Williams or Paul to that roster, they would likely be better off getting 2 pieces for 1.
  21. Heat need a change of some sort, 1-8 or 1-9 against Celts, Bulls and Magic and some horrible record with games decided by 5 or less, Pat Riley might be gettin' his coachin' suits ready! It's too late in the season for "feeling out" or whatever, that team needs to start beating elite teams in the east, I don't care how talented your top three are, you just can't "figure it out" in the playoffs
  22. yup, and this is the franchise that reportedly is getting ready to hand out a potentially franchise crippling contract...
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) Silva was the one pitching before the scuffle. He gave up 6 runs with 3 errors behind him in one inning. That's 12 Es in 3 games & one inning for the Cubs. apparently it was Silva and possibly Koyie Hill, looks like Z is off the hook this time!
  24. Josh Gross is reporting the 2nd leg of GP opening round will be on June 18th show, so four months between opening round matches, meaning a minimum of 6 months for Sergei and Bigfoot between. No real reason given, looks like Gina Carano is on 6/18 card, but does NOT look like it will be on CBS.
  25. Bill Simmons "the Sports Guy" He's not terrible, but he really retreads a lot of stuff and relies on a lot of "oh yeah I remember that" rather than being creative.
