The Humber v B-Mac Spectacular
QUOTE (Andrew @ May 13, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) So you didn't see the scoring, but you witnessed the failing to score. Is that right, Greg? I'm not harping on anybody but Ozzie. He doesn't pitch. He does put people in to pitch, however, that jeopardize wins. But you have to...y'know....WATCH. to see how that transpires. Whatever - do/think what you want, I don't care. Some people watch the whole thing. McCarthy hadn't given up an earned run at home this year, he gave up 3 tonight. The A's have an anemic offense, Sox did what they needed to do to win in a tough place. They've been playing WORLDS better the last week, at no point would I call scoring on a pitcher who is tough in his own ball park, a starter giving up 3 ERs on basically singles and a BP going 3 without giving up anything pathetic.

wow, Santos has looked great all year, but this is the nastiest I've seen him, Oakland had zero chance.

How to Get Viciedo in the Line UP
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ May 12, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) It's too late now, but Getz at 2B would be nice & Beckham at 3B. Beckham played a good 3B. Wouldn't want to change now, but Getz, Pierre, & occasionally Lillibridge in the line-up together is a bunch of speed. With Getz batting on the top of the order we have room for a power hitter like Viciedo. Sure 3B is supposed to be a power hitting position, but we haven't had power there since Crede so Beckham would have been good for years at 3B. Yes, Getz got hurt once a year, but between Omar & Lillibridge we have depth. Getting back to right now, I don't see the Sox bringing up "The Tank" unless somebody gets injured. Getz isn't very good. I don't mean to disrespect the guy, but he has something like a 67 OPS + and an OPS of .585 and, going off memory here, he was a solid 2b, but nothing spectacular. If the White Sox wanted Getz or a Getz like player they would have zero problem finding somebody who fits that bill.

Astros Sale For Reportedly $680M Close
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) That's kind of like saying the Tigers went to the playoffs with Doyle Alexander and it made the Smoltz trade a good one, or Bagwell for L. Anderson. If they had both Carlos Guillen and Freddy Garcia long-term (and John Halama as their fifth starter), they would have been much better off IMO. it's hard to judge trades like this one, really just an individual preference. Randy Johnson flat out dominated for the Astros in his short stint there, he did everything and more than the Astros could have expected, so his acquisition paid off from his performance, he didn't get the support from his teammates that was needed to get to/win a WS that year. Personally, if you're a team on the brink of being a legit WS contender and there's one stud player out there, you mortgage the future. Prospects are far too hit and miss as is, to a lesser extent, the health of your other players on your roster. Who knows, they don't make the trade for RJ, still fizzle out and then Bagwell and another important player gets significantly hurt... it's all a risk reward decision. I definitely see the other side of it, again, it's just personal preference for an org.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Another boring GSP fight. Matt Serra has ruined any hope of GSP being entertaining. If he doesnt fight Silva next then he is scared of getting hurt and would rather just out-point fighters and not challenge himself. ok, wasn't exactly the most thrilling main event, but that was a highly entertaining PPV.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) I was going to mention this if no one else did. That deal torpedo'd their season. and you could see another deal screw a season up if Boston loses to Miami this series due to a lack of size.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) I get what you are saying, but I don't see all those guys pitching well enough to match the other teams. Plus, the back of their rotation is pretty weak. Carrasco going on the DL doesn't help. I could see Masterson keep this up. Carmona reminds me of EJax in that he's consistently inconsistent with his control. Talbot is injured and I don't know if he showed that much in his only full season in the majors. I'm with you on this, again, there is talent on both KC and Cleveland, but I just don't see either keeping it up. Cleveland had a 10 game stretch where there starters were insane, stuff like that won't keep up. And hey, a lot of people on the board are using a small sample size of this year to bury the Sox, so I'll use a small sample size of this year and say head-to-head we're going to continue to own the Indians!!!!

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
I'm going to continue to be optimistic about this team, based only on the idea that I don't believe in the Indians and the Twins and Tigers have almost sucked or equally sucked as much as the Sox. And that's not to excuse the White Sox play this month, they've sucked. However, there is zero anybody can do to go back and change that, so have to look at the position they are in at the current moment. I still think with the talent on this team they can turn it around, and they won't even need a ridiculous 25-5 stretch to do it thanks to the other teams in the division.
-
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!
awesome win, I am flat out shocked that they are going to tread water during this ridiculous stretch. Sidenote, that Dunn AB when he walked in the 7th or 8th was flat out bizarre, ump was calling a consistent plate all night than just nothing on two pretty obvious strikes

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) But the Royals and Indians! haha, yeah, hopefully me ignoring them won't come back to haunt me, but some of those stats the Indians pitching was putting up was almost as good as the Sox offensive stats have been bad, meaning it can't sustain. I like both teams young talent a lot, this year though, I will still look at Twins and Indians.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Because he entirely miss used this pen from the start, and sent it in a tail spin. He consistently puts players in positions to fail instead of making their lives easier. When you watch other managers use a pen its just night and day, and im tired of giving Ozzie a pass because he brings other qualities that got the Sox a WS in 2005. Hes really going to have to do something to change my mind at this point, because Ive given him a pass forever. well the most frustrating thing with Ozzie since '05 is not putting people in positions to excel. I thought he did that very well in '05, but has completely failed at it since.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
I don't know, weird feeling with this team. I can't remember another Sox team that has wigged me out watching them as the 2011 team has the last 2 weeks. They have absolutely driven me crazy. However, one win tonight has made me feel a lot better, and that's simply because Tigers and Twins have scuffled out of the gate as well and Sox are close to both of them. If Sox can split this NYY series or get 3 out of 4 and come home within 3-4 games of both Tigers and Twins I will be thrilled. Trust me, I am not usually an optimistic person, but as horribly as they've played to be not buried by the two teams I expect them to go at it with for the year is amazing. Just a weird feeling I have with this team, and that has a lot to do with I don't see how they can possibly play this horrible for an extended stretch.

Sox have played horrible baseball the last 2-3 weeks, horrible, probably can't play any worse, and they're 3.5 behind Tigers and 1 behind the Twins and both those teams have flaws as well. I'm not quite ready for that firesale.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) You gotta love the infield fly that the entire side of the Yankee infield watch fall. one of the strangest unwritten rules in baseball about pitchers not catching pop-ups, seen it backfire a decent amount of times.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 04:34 AM) Nick Diaz will lose to the first top ten fighter in his weight class that he faces. it would have to be 2nd top ten, Daley may be one dimensional, but he was top 10 when they fought. Hard to gauge Diaz without seeing him face a very good wrestler, but he's certainly top 10 in my book. Unfortunately looks like he will box next, so MMA will wait a little.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I think Sergio was extremely fortunate that Teixeira hit a sharp grounder to Konerko instead of getting that elevated. Granderson had no problem killing that fastball either. ARod didn't stand a chance with his approach, but could have worked the count a bit better. the way this team has closed games this year, I'll take good fortune for awhile

Dunn
he looked a hell of a lot better tonight, and actually 5-6 games ago D Jackson on the radio said he was about 5-6 games away from getting it back

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) The Twins offense right now is rivaling the Mariners. yeah, I actually know why we're there, I'm just amazed that it's still that close amongst the three teams that I expect to be in it at the end considering how poorly the Sox have hit the last 2 weeks
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
wow, nothing but credit to Humber, what a great performance. I have zero idea how this team is 3.5 behind Tigers and 1 behind Twins at this point, but I'm glad they are.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
with some back problems and now this type of injury, at some point the Twins have to seriously discuss moving him from behind the plate. I know that lessens his value somewhat, but he is seemingly hurt a lot

White Sox vs. Oakland A's
OK, I'll admit, this is over the top because I'm watching this game, but if JR is really "all in" he has to consider firing Ozzie or at least put Cooper in charge of pitching 100%. Completely silly.

Norm MacDonald's Sport Show is so awesome. You have to like Norm to enjoy it because it basically is all him, but I'm a huge fan and it did not disappoint.

would be awesome to get this game... I would take 7-5 after bullpen meltdowns, spotty SP and horrific defense, but 8-4 would be sweet

Acording to ESPN D Rose is 1 of only 3 players in the last 30 years to have 2000 points and 600 assists in a season, other 2 were LBJ last season and MJ in the early 90's.
