  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) I'd say thats accurate. Whats important is that we give him a fixed position. Although obviously he has no problem playing all over the place, which is nice if for some reason we have an injury somewhere down the road. nah, I like the Rob Mac plan where they just find a position he struggles at and stick him there a majority of the time

    KW

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) There is a link on Rotoworld where Gammons speculates that Manny Ramirez may be headed to Chicago for 3 players... http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=1884
  3. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/scor....mlb/index.html link to SI.com rumors, LA Times snippet there saying teams have discussed and likely other players would be added....
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) By the way, nice of the Cubs to screw up the pitching market for everyone else as well. I don't think this is a done deal yet, wouldn't be suprised if a team adds an extra year at something similar In fact, the wording that they "offered" this to him and no mention that it was accepted either means it was a fresh offer or he turned it down. Teams don't often leave these offers on the table for a long time.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) I posted this in the MLB thread, but im sure it deserves its own. Like I said before, he should make them a favorite to win their division. a 1-2 of Zambrano and Schmidt is pretty formadable, with a healthy Prior, they could dominate. Yeah, if they get him, IMO, it's a WAY more important signing than Soriano. We'll see though, the article really doesn't say when this offer was made, and it says he already has rebuffed the Yanks, so he may really be interested in the west only. If that happens, then I would say he lands in Seattle.
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) im not sure, he mentioned hed be on in the 1 oclock hour, but i havent heard anything about it since SI.com is now reporting Cubs offered Schmidt 3/45, so he may focus on that for now (I threw up the link in its own topic in Diamond Club)
  7. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base...cubs/index.html If it's true, a lot will come down to where he wants to play. It seems he already told east coast teams he wants to stay out west, but 15m a year may make it easier to live in Chicago. It at least puts pressure on the West Coast teams to add a 4th year... If true, I think this will get it done, unless he gives someone a hometown discount (If I'm missing a thread on this, please merge ahead mods!!!)
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) How about this, why in the name of god would we send young cheap pitching with the current climate for a bat. Pitching is much harder to obtain and develop than any player no matter how special. We have had numerous teams that had monster beasts who could kill you 5 ways to sunday with the bat, then we trotted out poop and stink for pitching and watch the twins run off with the division. If we pick up Santana, I am for keeping him. And start to build a top flight rotation. We won in 2005 based on a terrible offense for most of the season, they got hot in the playoffs and all, and lights out pitching and a good pen. Take a look at the teams for the most part that have won it all over the last 6 years. How many of them had a great offense and so so pitching. Keep the arms and build around that. If we wanted the OF strength over pitching we would of never have shipped off Young. Right, I'm not really weighing in with what I would rather do, but just giving my opinion on what Tampa would probably want in return for Crawford, or realistically, any player on their roster
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) I would rather keep Bmac and Santana, and then move another starting pitcher for the prospects needed to make the Crawford deal. The AL Central, the toughest divison in baseball, is basically a freakin arms race. Whomever has the best pitching wins. IMO young pitching would have to be the centerpiece of any Tampa deal. They won't take a veteran pitcher making a ton of money. They would want Bmac or Santana so they could control him for 3-4 years at a reasonable rate. MB, Javy, JG, FG, or the Count would not interest them at all. A 3rd team would have to be added
  10. It's so awesome that you the filter catches the breed of a dog. If I had seen that spelled out I don't know what would have happened

    KW

With KW this may mean a deal will be announced today!! Flying under the radar baby!!!! I posted this in the thread about the actual deal, but what Sox fans have been dreaming about Bonds being on the team?!?!
  12. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 24, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) That's whats so bad, people in Wisconsin won't be able to watch the Packers (they do have a thursday night game later this year too). I guess Colorado Springs couldn't watch the Broncos yesterday. For the immediate local area for the teams, they may put them on broadcast TV. I think when the Bears are on ESPN, ABC runs the feed so people without cable can see it. In fact, I think during commercials for the Chiefs v. Broncos game, there was some print at the bottom of the screen stating this would happen.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) KW doesn't seem thrilled with how things are shaping up right now. Yes, all those Sox fans I have talked to who are dreaming about Barry Bonds playing LF. Where did that come from?!?!?!!
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) On ESPN radio this morning, they stated that Boras may have wanted a 1 year deal. If that's true, then IMO Boras is trying to bust 30 day window and challenge the posting system. To post the 50+ million, the theory was the Red Sox would tie in Japanese networks, ads... etc, a one year deal probably wouldn't lend itself to those types of deals being very profitable
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) But you are still getting rid of a GG caliber player at a crucial defensive position. Lf isnt nearly as important defensively as 3B. This rumor reeks of someone trying to drive up the demand for Freddy. I think KW can definitely get quality for FG, but do you think his contract status might bring him down a little? He's signed to one more year, and with the money getting thrown around, FG is in for a bonanza contract next off-season. Basically you're looking at a one year rental or a major extension with FG, some teams might shy away.
  16. I'm just going to throw my ridiculous, pure assumption in this thread. It clicked when this site was having trouble loading due to traffic and I jumped to espn.com and saw that Red Sox are reportadly nearing a Manny deal. Article didn't mention White Sox, in fact I don't think any AL team is rumored, but hey... just throwing it out there (and, no, likely not a possability, I agree)
  17. Only thing that I would find a little odd about this, is Sox would be losing a decent amount of payroll, no? Figgins can't be that much and Santana is still early in his contract years.... Maybe spin this into a bigger name? I don't think the Sox can sell lessening payroll after 2.9 last year
  18. Problem with Joe is that Boras is his agent. He won't resign with anyone before hitting the market. Should be interesting...
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) Reason #1 why I would NEVER own in a place that had an association. I agree with you 100%, associations get so nit picky and grudges are carried throughout, it's just not worth it IMO
  20. It's November 25th, right? Because if not, I missed X-Mas and a lot of people will be pissed at me. I think KW is waiting until the dust settles and he's sitting with quality SPs to deal and desperate teams
  21. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) The Tribune coverage of the cubs is back to being sickening. Actually all of the Chicago media coverage is. Soriano is a borderline great player. He is nowhere near worth $17M though. How he got a better contract than Beltran just goes to show how desperate the cubs are. My thinking though is they are trying to sex up the situation to sell the team. The new owner can then come in and blame these horrendous moves as to why they have to cut salary. I also though think the cubs are looking at how sad that 100 anniversary will be and pulling out all of the stops. I think some of the media have actually questioned the move, while some have gone completely blind and acted like he's the greatest player ever. Look, he's a solid player, but that contract is insane, IMO, and their main need is pitching or at least a good OBP guy. The radio has been the greatest though, I know on Boers and Bernstein, Boers basically said this isn't an earthshattering move and the contract is insane. Some of the Cubs supporters were calling in and you can actually hear them having mental breakdowns over it.
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 24, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) Gumble=bad. Multiple times he was like, "Larry Johnson just across the 20, maybe got to the 21." And the ball would be spotted on the 25. I think I may have him typecast as a news reporter cuz his voice was also bothering me for no reason. nah, I agree, Gumble wasn't very good. Very monotone, seemed like Gumble 2 Gumble actually came to life
  23. We can now add that Tribune is reporting they're looking at Greg Maddux again.
  24. is it next year where, one way or another, the Sox will have a decent amount of money coming off the books. Granted they could always tie up MB, Dye, Crede, etc. this year and jam some up, but if attendance keeps up they're going to have to spend money on somebody soon. Be it their own FA or next year in the market. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  25. It's amazing that it happened with Secret Service there, I imagine somoeone will be pulling desk duty. The brunette twin (Barbara?) is pretty good looking
