  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) Your friends are morons. I agree
  2. He was pretty upfront that he made a mistake. He didn't try to blame "tainted supplements" or anything. He basically said he made a bad decision and he'll have to pay for it. Refreshing.
  3. http://www.nypost.com/seven/11022006/news/..._washington.htm Good story about troops reaction to the statement. I've heard the same kind of things from some friends and family, and a little from media reports, that most of the troops over there see a lot of good and change, and are proud of what they do. I know 3 people who've served in Iraq, at various levels of the military, and they all get really annoyed, and claim other troops do to, when celebrities pull the "We support the troops, but not the way" Basically one of my family members in the service say that a lot of troops don't want that type of support, and view it as PR ploys... Not sure how I feel, just passing along some of the military opinions I've heard
  4. http://www.theonion.com/content/node/54778 I love the Onion!!
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Anyone boycott Polanski here? Oddly I don't. This issue actually has popped up in a lot of conversations with my friends lately. They take the stance that what he did wasn't that bad since the girl was, what, 13 and it wasn't "rape" since they only equate that with using force. I think it's totally sick what he did and mentally that girl couldn't consent. But, I still don't boycott him, maybe I should....
  6. I recognize that middle relief is important, but if the Sox are looking to trade FG or Vaz, in this market, I would like to see them get back an impact player, either in LF or CF. I think KW has done a solid job of scrap heaping middle relievers in the past few years. I think KW will make one headline trade, but the most important signing/trade he may make this offseason will be signing some obscure pitcher in late January...
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?i...e=ESPNHeadlines I would believe the NYY will just pull a dump truck of money up to his driveway ASAP
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) As sort of an offshoot from this... Am I the only person who will occasionally, intentionally AVOID a certain company's product specifically because I find their commercials so horribly irritating? I know the supposed method behind that madness - advertising's main goal is placement in people's minds, even if its annoying. But for me, if its bad enough, that backfires and assures that I DON'T give them my business, when I otherwise might have. no, I'm with you. It seems good ads don't have much sway on my purchases, but horrible ads stop me from buying peoples products
  9. The Price is Right always reminds me of being home sick from school. I think it started at 10:00 a.m. and would always hope Plinko would be on!!
  10. I went with the "sometimes" option. Usually it doesn't enter my mind, but when a person is so over the top, IMO Cruise is a good example of this, it becomes hard to separate the character from the person. But as I said this is rare, and Cruise is really the only one that pops out to me now
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) BTW, A-ram opts for free agency. The "increased payroll" for the cubs will take a huge hit in the bidding war for A-ram. What are the other teams expected to bid high for him? I imagine the Dodgers and Angels would like a power surge. Cubs may catch a small break in the fact that NYY won't be interested if they're really keeping A-Rod, and Boston may be happy enough with Lowell not to be too interested. Also Mets won't need him. So some of the big spenders won't be a factor. With that said, he likely wouldn't do this if he and his agent thought they could get a pay bump. They'll have a lot of pressure from their fan base to not lose him.
  12. QUOTE(ptatc @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) If you watched Thomas this year you would've noticed that he wasn't healthy. He did play a full season but not at a healthy level. He still cannot run on that foot. He limped and hobbled his way through the year to get a good contract and a ring I think. If you look at his stats they show it as well. He scored only 77 runs and had only 11 doubles. Both of which are significantly lower than any season where he had 500 at bats. This tells me he couldn't run to stretch doubles and couldn't score from 2nd where he could if he could run. I'm a huge Frank Thomas fan, but watching him Oakland was a little painful at times. He had a good year, but like the quote above points out he can not run at all and really clogs up the bases (yes, more than some of the speed demons in the middle of our line-up). He is a good player for Beane's philosophy of getting on base and not looking to steal, but what Ozzie wants to do, and I belive can be effective, I don't know how Frank would fit in (And trust me, that last statment kills me to type)
  13. I think since KW is likely looking to move a SP he may wait until Zito, Schmidt and the Japanese pitcher are signed. That way he may be able to get a lot from the teams that lost out on a FA pitcher.
  14. KW being KW, which IMO is a good thing. If A-Rod is/was available and you have the things NYY would be interested in you got to at least inquire. No suprise names, I guess MB a little, but not shocking. It will be interesting to see how they open that spot for B-Mac... I don't see KW trading for prospects only, he'll likely want something that helps immediately at least as a part of a deal. One name that wouldn't fill the lead-off role, and he's a butcher in LF, but if the Reds ever trade Dunn, I'm sure they would be interested in a quality starting pitcher. I like Dunn, but don't know how he would fit.
  15. If Shines does a solid job and the Sox have a good year, he'll probably be brought up in a lot more managerial openings next offseason
  16. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) Isn't Cheap Seats off the air now too? No, it's near the end of a new season. The new ones have been on Mondays at 6:30, with replays at 10:30, then some overnight... then T-F there's reruns everynight at 10:30
  17. hysterical! It reminds me of some of the stories I've heard about the actors who have been on America's Most Wanted. Often times someone will see them and report them to the police. I remember one woman who portrayed an arsonist on the show looked so much like the actual fugitive she use to get calls all the time.
  18. I was reading si.com's rumor section the other day, and I believe one of the papers said they will try and trade him, but picked it up to keep him away from their main competitors... NYY would likely eat a ton of this contract if they can place him in the NL or an AL West team
  19. Minaya is probably thrilled that Randolph is saying they may be used in trades, really helps their value
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Haha, damn job has me shaving twice a week. I shave Monday morning and Wed morning and on Sunday's I got some nice scruff. I should be a spokesman for the working without having to shave association. I'd like to join you on that... I push it in misdo court, but in Juvy I have to shave every single day i'm in there!!! Irish skin is not meant to be shaved daily!
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Seeing as I'm very lazy, can someone once again tell me if there's actually a chance this happens? Or is it just speculation? A post or two earlier I mentioned that Boras was told by Cashman he's staying, but who knows....
  22. It may be earlier in the thread, but ESPN.com has a story that is saying Boras talked to Cashman and they're both saying he's staying... take it for what it is worth.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) The BH had some funny moments. A Dana/Artie duet, Dice as a cop, and Gilbert played Mr X. IMO, you had to be familiar with some inside show stuff to get it. Did you listen to Riley last night, and if so how was he? I'm a huge fan, I have been since his Channel 9 show out of NY was on in syndication here, but I still didn't get into it very much. The Gilbert as Mr. X was funny, but again, I preface my complaints with it that I hate when Beth is brought up or on the show, so it really had no chance with me. No, I didn't catch Riley last night, I'm sure it was as funny as always. They really use him perfectly, don't overuse him, and then get him all ticked off and bring him on Howard's show. Jackie's Joke Hunt has been funny too, but I've always been a fan of The Joke-Man (it's 2 words, just ask Ed McMahon)
  24. If anyone gets it, check out the Riley Martin Show on Howard 101... it's a crazy alien conspiracy guy, it is funny. The Baba Booey Roast should be good too... As for The Bitter Half.... well, IMO, not so great, in fact it was 1/2 hour of me listening to music on the other channels... (But basically any converstation on the show having to do with Beth gets shut off immediately, so with her featured in it, I really had no chance of liking it)
