QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Typically, when charging for something like DUI, the smaller things like public urination are not addressed. Not worth it. Unless the prosecutor is trying to make a point about something. Yeah, or sometimes in the County I work in they'll take on some extra stuff just so the plea deal looks better when they drop some things. But you're right, with DUI often things like disorderly conduct aren't charged, but the traffic stuff is usually on there, because often they use that as a basis for the stop.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) I found this on ESPN and I was wondering if this was valid: Albert Belle was the first player in baseball history to make more than $10 million in a single season for his "services" thanks to the generosity of the Chicago White Sox. But he wouldn't sign on the dotted line until the White Sox agreed to two special requests. One, a giant container of Halloween candy was to be delivered to his front porch every afternoon, where it was to be lit with a spotlight so children all across the neighborhood could see it. And two, Belle wanted a high-powered BB gun with a scope. i would imagine that it would be false.... it's a play on the time on Halloween some kids egged his house and he tried to run them down in his car

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Just got done watching the Straight Shooting Series with Terry Funk and Shane Douglas. It was very informative and entertaining. They talk a lot about ECW and how it eventually became a parody of itself with Douglas talking about how "I talked to Paul about there being six interviews. It doesn't matter how good it is, people won't want it after seeing five others. The same goes for tables. After seeing six, seven, eight tables, nobody wants to see a ninth, tenth table." It was a really good discussion of how oversaturation of one element led to the product possibly failing. They played up Heyman's creativity but criticized him for not really being a good "boss" to control things like that. They also made a point about wrestling being like Thanksgiving dinner in that you want a little of everything and not a plate full of one food and nothing else. Really informative shoot. I think one of the problems/miscalculations ECW/Heyman made was not expanding soon enough. I realize expanding too broadly and quickly would have spelled immediate disaster, but I feel they should have run strong wrestling towns such as Chicago, St. Louis and some of the old Texas territories earlier. Keeping the shows to the east coast for as long as they did crimped cash flow. With that said, I think it would have been rough for ECW to last and I don't know if there was a "perfect" plan that would have saved it.

ESPN invests in Arena Football League....

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) I have issues with Media outlets owning or investing in teams or leagues. as do I, especially since ESPN won't run commercials for things they don't have money invested in... This is why there aren't any UFC commercials on ESPN, ESPN doesn't have money in MMA -
Fantasy Football Tiebreaker?
SoxFan562004 replied to JoeBatterz's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I don't love replaying the semifinal in week 16 because week 17 can become a DOG week, that's why most leagues have their Super Bowl in week 16. Take my team, our league went all 17 weeks, and I have LT. So if Chargers win and Baltimore doesn't this week, odds are LT will sit 3 quarters in 17. However, I had a rash of injuries at QB, so I picked up Vince Young, now even though they may be eliminated from the playoffs, they'll likely play him the whole game with a full game plan. -
Report: Iverson will be traded to Nuggets

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) I always find it interesting how many different teams a certain draft pick will go. In this case it has gone to 4 for now. But Philly did a pretty good job getting 2 first rounders, Miller, and Smith. That's about the best they could've received I think. yeah, seems like a good deal considering they announced they were going to trade him. Should be a somewhat deep draft, just going off the idea that it was the 1st year HS kids couldn't declare, so a bunch of them had to go to college for one year. Might not make it deeper, but atleast an extra year of scouting at a higher level for some of those kids (ie, what would Curry, Chandler and some of the Euros status have been if they spent one year in college) I can not WAIT for the first George Karl (sp?) v. AI feud! They'll be all happy at a press conference, but look out! -

QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Secret Wars was such a amalgamated FUBAR that it would take 7 movies to get through just part of it. I agree, it would be difficult, but the way LOTR was pulled off gave me some hope for more complicated fantasy type stories. LOTR are long movies, but there was still some cut out from the books, but I think they pulled it off well. However, Secret Wars would have major rights and money splitting issues, so I'm not holding my breath! -
IMO, very good move by KW. A.J. was getting run out there WAY too much, now it helps that he can take a rest every now and then.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 06:05 AM) Reminiscing about the old WWF days a bit, anyone remember this crazy storyline? classic. That clip reminded me 2 things. 1. Cornette (sp?) is great. There's a tape of him and some other wrestlers at a drive-thru after a show somewhere, and since they had such a large order the place thought it was a joke, so they were waiting there forever. When Cornette found out what was going on he completely lost it. 2. When Austin had his neck surgery and they brought him back after a long time at a live event, he had such a HUGE beer belly, it was comical watching him trying to get into the ring (Yes, I understand he had a major surgery and couldn't work out or anything for months, and basically all he did was sit around and drink beer, but the visual of his comeback is parody-like)

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) AWESOME. Its not a suit though, its a symbiote I'm not a HUGE comic fan, but I wish they could do the "Secret Wars" storyline for this, but I bet it will be good -
If this is true, I like this trade a lot. Sisco's development may have been delayed because KC had to keep him up on the ML level since they grabbed him from the Cubs in the Rule IV (is it IV???) draft. Seems like a trend that KW follows for Coop projects, and I like the results so far

Police raid Tank Johnson's Home
SoxFan562004 replied to Balance's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) So, why were they searching his home to begin with? A gun card (a misdemeanor) seems awful petty. I bet 75% of professional athletes know a guy who has 2 ounces of weed on him. Seems to me that the cops got a tip and ended up just charging Tank with whatever the law allowed to justify the invasion of his home. OK, this is just off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure the police mentioned they were monitoring the house, I believe it was for drug dealing (the guy who is now dead had pot on him) -

I really enjoy tastefully done X-Mas decorations, but I agree that the blow-up ones are a touch tacky. When I was younger (maybe 10-15 years ago at this point) a street of of 22nd in Westchester I believe use to all be lit up. It was great the first few years, then it was a spectacle with tons of traffic, then a-holes started stealing stuff so they stopped doing it...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2694660 Seems they are about 3m a year apart. Both are at 6 years, Red Sox at 8, Boras and DM at 11 per, s0 18m over the life of the contract... they are cutting it close, but if I were to take a guess, I would think they could bridge that (put with the physical needing to be done, they likely have to get this done today)

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Speaking of MTV, I'm watching -- yet again -- "True Life: I'm a Staten Island Girl." It's freakin' hilarious. Every stereotypical image one associates with Staten Island girls are showcased. It's amazing how self-centered and irritating these people can be. THAT GUY..IS YOUR TYPICAL STAAAATEN ISLAND JERRRKOFF! Yeah, that is a good one, but one that blows it out of the water is "True Life: We Have a House on The Jersey Shore" The main guy in that is like an SNL parody. Rob & Big is good, which means on MTV it probably won't last long. (Clone High was one of the best shows they ever had on and it only lasted one season). I hate to break the news to DrunkBomber, but DC Shoe Company produces the show, hence there products are all over the place, so they are basically buying a 30-minute informercial from MTV everyweek (Notice on Real World, etc.. that they blur out corporate logos usually, but not DC on this show)

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Besides baseball, there is hardly any of this East coast bias everyone refers to. Do the Knicks, Celtics, Nets, etc. get any more time in the spot light than they should? No. Do the Bruins, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, etc. get any time in the spot light at all? No. There is hardly any favoritism at all in the NFL, especially now that ESPN holds the Monday Night Football rights. College Sports? Who? Boston College? No. Rutgers? No. UMass? St. Johns? St. Joes? Come on.. Absolutely not. And while I agree that the NHL has more problems than just ESPN, the tv ratings, which this thread is based on have a direct correlation to not being carried on ESPN. I will disagree with you about those two, especially the Knicks. All you hear about is Isiah Thomas and the Knicks. Rutgers got HUGE run (Granted that was a good story, but IMO Bosie State is a similar story that did not get that much run)

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) Very good point. To be perfectly honest I wouldn't trade another starting pitcher, unless it would be an offer we couldn't refuse. After reading these posts, I didn't know Vazquez had that many supporters!!! I think the SP contracts this offseason probably won some new fans. Yes, Javy is still paid a lot, but he takes the ball and generally stays healthy. Meche or Lilly at their money or Javy at his isn't even a question to me, I take Javy.
