  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 06:40 AM) It wasn't deserved, it was shoved down our tubes because of the media (sorry to borrow your line Hangar) and a lot of it was based on his past performances. And about the Reds, I saw them in person, and they suck. 3 games behind the Cardinals makes them a sub .500 team. I saw them a few times in Cincy, and I agree. Not a very good team at all.
  2. Gettin' in the hot tub.... OHHHHHHH HOT!!!!!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2767126 (espn.com's story) This is hysterical. We'll see if this pans out. I remember Kent injured his wrist "washing his truck" and it turned out he was doing something against his contract (Was it riding a motorcycle?)
  3. Sounds good, I know last year I remember just some ridiculously awful bunt attempts from the team, if memory serves me right, Uribe was AB for many of those
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) They have pockets of extra money, they will sign him right before opening day. I agree with you on this. They just dropped 300million in contracts this offseason. I just don't see them letting him walk.
  5. there's only a handful of teams that could/will ink this guy. 1. NYY 2. NYM 3. Bos 4. LAD 5. LAA 6. Cubs 7. Poss Tex?? not any specific order. I can't imagine Cubs letting him walk, Hendry/Tribune will have to pay up.
  6. I would imagine they would go after Norv Turner or a college coach, not sure who else is really out there. I guess Ron Rivera will be mentioned, but the Chargers should be an elite AFC team next year, and Rivera runs the 4-3 and I believe the Chargers are a 3-4 team. I imagine they wouldn't want to have a complete scheme change at this point.
  7. now "breaking news" on espn.com. No link though, because it's just a blurb on the front page, no full story yet.
  8. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I thought they said they were going to keep him? Yeah, that was the original gameplan, nothing on ESPN.com as of a few minutes ago, heard it on the national update. Maybe they were doing it to keep the cordinators around for another year, but once they went away it might have been hard for Marty to get quality replacements as a lame duck, so the team scapped the plans and went in a new direction.
  9. just heard on ESPN Radio that the Chargers fired Schottenheimer... seems like an internal change since the end of their season.
  10. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) If I was a betting man, I sure wouldn't bet on the Cubs to win it all. They will probably be improved but they won't win it all by any means. Yeah, but the NL is such a crapshoot again this year, realistically looking at it, the Cubs have a solid shot making the playoffs, then anything can happen. If Prior is healthy, if Dempster is a solid closer and if the line-up raises their OBP, they have as good a shot as anyone in the NL. Know it's a lot of "ifs", but the NL is weak again this year. If the Mets would have added 1-2 impact SPs, they would have easily been the team to beat, but their SP is still shaky IMO.
  11. I love this move. Hall is a solid backup catcher, and as stated above, AJ seemed to slow down at the end of the year, hopefully this will keep him fresh throughout.
  12. OK, this doesn't deserve its own thread, but Levine on ESPN Radio just said the reason Mark Prior has so many shoulder and elbow injuries is because he's "Double jointed" and has so much flexability. He then said that he knew this for awhile, but people at the Cubs told him to keep it quiet. He said how other athletes have had this problem and they weren't able to overcome it. I don't know what to make of that, but that's not my lame attempt at humor. That is what he said, without me adding anything.
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) SCOTT STEINER is Christian Cage's "scout" for his match against Angle? What's Steiner going to teach Cage? How to bungle promos and blow up in three minutes? Awful, awful, awful..............only thing worse would have been Nash. Steiner's transformation from the mullet having member of the steiner brothers to "Big Poppa Pump" is one of the funniest things.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 06:17 AM) At first I was thinking, why does the former James Gang and Eagles guitar player have an interest? Yeah, life's been good to him... so far
  15. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) Hit the nail on the head righ there. Betting on the CUbs is like betting Notre Dame, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers. It's a phenomenon. Last year the Cubs went off at 6-1 to win the WS. True fact.... Cubs fans pay a good 25% of all electricty costs in Vegas. Right, Cubs odds are always lower than they should be because the books have to protect themselves in case the Cubs ever win. Good example of the Notre Dame similarity is this years bowl game against LSU. I think Notre Dame only gave up 7 1/2, where IMO if it was a neutral team the line should have been double digits.
  16. thanks steve, I will now burn hotter in hell because I laughed at your "she gone" tag line on this thread!
  17. yes, the curse has nothing to do with a GM who spent $300m in the offseason and didn't improve OBP and still have shaky pitching depth (I've posted it before, but after the dust settled, the fact that the Cubs spent all that money and didn't sign Schmidt blows my mind)
  18. Thanks for the post, good read. Everytime I read stuff about PK, I realize what a deal his contract has ended up being. With his age and his production, the Sox did well with that. I also think A.J. will be a solid fantasy player this year. Keeping in mind he's a catcher, his numbers are good, and my hope is with a legit back-up catcher, he may have less ABs, but more consistent numbers.
  19. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) On another note, Charles Manson is up for parole this year. not sure if it's on youtube or dailymotion.com, but about 10-15 years ago one of the major networks did an interview with Manson in prison. It was a female reporter, i think maybe Diane Sawyer. It is one of the most bizarre things you'll ever see. Stern, Steve Dahl and other radio guys use to play clips all the time.
  20. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 07:47 AM) Gina Glocksen of Naperville made it to Hollywood again. She is the lead singer of local girl group Catfight. I saw them at the Cubby Bear North. They're pretty good. Is she the blonde or the dark haired singer?
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) the 3 teams reportedly interested in him - Baltimore, Detroit, and Anaheim - have all denied interest. Sucks for Juan SI in their rumor section had a blurb saying Orioles are not interested despite the reports. I guess Anaheim should take a flyer. They still need offense. (Not that I think he will ever do anything, but if it's a minor league deal, no big loss)
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Take a look at what other careers can earn you over $9 mil per. I would take Harang over Lily anyday and twice on Sunday
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) All while pitching at the Great American Bandbox. His 128 ERA+ last year was the 9th best in baseball. He also lead the NL with 216 Ks which was good for 2nd best in baseball behind Johan. Work took me to Cincy a few times last year and I was able to catch a few games there. It really is a band box where the ball FLIES out. After seeing games there, IMO, Harang can do some chunkin' to put those numbers up.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Nothing real new here but Variety came out with an article yesterday on this very subject and they do include some interesting tidbits. Good read, got me up-to-snuff on some of the situation. The whole Baseball Network angle is new to me. I think it is an interesting idea, but not sure MLB could pull it off. Yeah, I think NFL Network is quality and well done, but the NFL has shown FAR greater leadership than MLB. I just think MLB's attempt at a network will turn into a cluster.
  25. I think his hammy would pop signing a contract... how much guaranteed $$ did he turn down from the Tigers?
