The whole initial thing is something I've always thought about too! We all know who is who! It reminds me of boxing matches on ESPN when I was growing up. There would be a white guy and a black guy fighting each other wearing very similar colored trunks. So on the screen they would put up their names and trunk colors to identify them. I always thought it would be easier to just say "black guy" "white guy" but I guess that wouldn't be exactly PC.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Crede, Buehrle, Dye & Mackowiak KW should have been there to lay the groundwork for some extensions!!!!!

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) Rosie opens her yap again. Rosie O'Donnell laid a smackdown on "American Idol" this morning from her perch on "The View," saying that "Idol" canned former contestant Frenchie Davis for her breast-baring snapshots, but kept current wannabe Antonella Barba despite hers -- because Davis is black and fat and Barba is, well, not. "It's weightist and wacist," said Rosie, doing her best Donald Duck impression. Howard Stern had Frenchie on, I believe, Monday morning. She gave her point of view, but Howard and Robin were arguing it's not exactly the same because Antonella (sp?) didn't get paid for her pictures and Frenchy did. They mentioned something about Idol had a former stripper on and kept her, they said that was a better comparison (not sure if that's true or not) I guess I would say it's discrimination against "beauty", or what our society views as beauty, which many may argue has racial undertones. I know the second I heard Antonella's pics were out there I was on the internet looking for them, because I think she's an attractive woman. I did not look for Frenchie's because I don't think she's attractive. That may make me a terrible person in somepeoples eyes, but it is the truth. I guess it boils down to what is this contest really about on Idol? Is it a singing contest, like the judges like to label it? Or is it a contest for an American "Idol" where singing is one component of it along with looks and personality? I guess with that basis Frenchie should have been kept on (also because I believe she fronted to the producers about the pics before they came out) and let America decide.

Sox Lockup Vazquez to Contract Ext.
SoxFan562004 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's an OK deal. Pitching has gotten expensive. FWIW, I think yesterday was a good example of why you can't go by the boxscore for ST games. I thought Javy threw better than his line yesterday. The weird thing is the reaction I've heard by people like Mark Silverman is that since they've signed Javy, there's no chance to sign MB, basically it was one or the other. I know KW has said he would let his FAs get to the end of the year, but I believe he said that about other guys, and ended up signing them to extensions. We'll see, ESPN radio said MBs agent is going to give them a proposal this week. I wouldn't be shocked if it's so far off from what KW wants that MB could move by the end of spring. (that's just a gut reaction/guess by me) -
QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) I don't think he will get into trouble. Not like he took stuff in 96. He has been in pain for awhile and probably took something to make him feel better. Steroids didn't have him win the World Title in that Battle Royal obviously. since WWE is not a sanctioned sport, if he was really prescribed it by a legit doctor, he wouldn't have violated any of WWE's policies. He has had neck surgery and other injuries to rehab, so it is possible it was a legit prescription, actually, with Angle's story, it would come down to an ethical inquiry about the prescription IMO

Yes, I took constitution classes, but can someone refresh me what the process for a new Veep would be if he steps down?

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) I see them contending in the weak NL central, it mostly depends on Sheets staying healthy. I don't see Bill Hall hitting 30 home runs this year though. I agree. If he's healthy that's a solid anchor to that rotation, although that's a huge "if" at this point

Zook to McPhearson, Ellis: See ya

If it was a straight up DUI, and he took responsability ASAP, then I would agree that hammering the kid is wrong, but the story that he left his teammate, oh wait, as Weber puts it "family" member, there to die in the freezing cold, that's where it is brought to the next level for me. -
Worst Sportscaster ever is back?

Chris Berman has never left. -
a long time coming, he should have been launched when they found that crack pipe in his car and his excuse was it was a friends who he was trying to help so he took it away. Irvin was horrible.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) Yup, my neighbor just called and said it was closed. He knows this because the cops told him to go another way. My car is spending the night here at work, and I'm taking the train home. F this. I got a back way home from one of the "Court Security Personal" so I will try that, but yeah, I believe 47 is either closed or advised to avoid between Woodstock and Huntley

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) One of our clients called in and told us. Now we hear that 14 is also closed down. yeah, I've heard 14 has been closed, but that is just going around word of mouth... edit to this, just saw on one of my co-workers computer that 14 is closed

Good luck Hermie, you were a vital cog in getting the Sox to the playoffs in '05!

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) I guess the state police have shut down Route 47 between Huntley and Woodstock due to the insane drifting. It's Hell out there man, pure Hell. where did you hear this? I'm in Woodstock and I need to go to 90, so please let me know, I'm leaving after my 1:30 court call.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) Last night the girls sang: Gina from Naperville was just OK, but why is a supposed rocker chick dressed like she is going to her spring formal? She should be safe, but it's dangerous to go first in a 90-minute show. boy, that's the first thing I thought too. I think her best shot at going far is playing up the rocker image, both in looks and song selection. This is what Simon was trying to point out.

Sunglass Clad Teen Girls Rob Bank of America Branch in Georgia
SoxFan562004 replied to aboz56's topic in SLaM
This is just the calm before the storm. When/if these girls are caught they will be all over the media. I'm sure Larry King and Nancy Grace hope the Anna Nicole Smith thing wraps up so they can dedicate multiple shows to these girls. It's going to play out like a parody. -
There's a clip of Levine and Joe Morgan getting into a huge argument over this topic. Levine was very matter-of-fact in the discussion. He basically said that the veterans were not the right people to chose who should go in the HOF, and Morgan obviously disagreed with that notion. IMO, it is a little odd that the veterans haven't added anyone in 6 years, however, what doesn't fly with me is the Santo supporters who are saying since Santo isn't in, the system doesn't work and everyone is wrong. The main problem I have with this argument is he was on the regular ballot for 15 years and didn't get elected, that tells me he is not a slam-dunk HOF'er by definition. If he got in, I don't think it would be a travesty, but I also don't think that it is a tragedy if he doesn't. Many of his supporters seem to be overlooking the fact that he wasn't voted in by the reporters in previous years. I guess his recent influx of support stems from his medical problems he has had over the past few years. My dad is diabetic, and everytime I hear of what Santo went through it scares the hell out of me, but that doesn't mean he is better suited to be in the HOF than he was the first time he was on the ballot as the HOF is currently situated. However, I have always thought the HOF should add a section for people who might not be HOF level players, but contributed greatly to the game, ie Tommy John for pioneering the comeback from the radical surgery, or the players who paved the way for FA, etc... then Santo could be in for dealing with his disease during his playing days. I would have to look back to see if there's anything detailing the veteran's supposed role, but Joe Morgan seems comfortable with the process.

I hope its not an omen. *knocking on wood* just make sure it's not Kerry, that guy has some bad luck! I heard Bobby on ESPN radio this morning (it was probably a clip from yesterday) and he said there are no plans on changing his schedule, he will continue to throw when he was scheduled to throw.

Studies: immigrants lead to rising wages, less jail time
SoxFan562004 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) And secondly, a different study by a UC Irvine Sociologist found that illegal immigrants currently have a much lower incarceration rate than virtually any other native born group of Americans. just reading this, my gut reaction is those numbers COULD be skewed a little. I know in my county, an illegal is picked up for say, driving with a license never issued, they're put through our jail system, and Immigration puts a hold on them. We see that and the Judge sees that. So, here you have a person, who you can give a ton of time, they sit, and then are likely deported, or you can give them fines and court costs that they'll never pay. Some judges are inclined to give them time served, which often is less than a person who would be released as an American citizen. That way, they can be turned over to immigration quicker and that process can start. Again, this is my first impression scanning this article, there is a chance I misread something, but that is one possible reason for these numbers -
Olney mentions Buehrle trade to the Mets
SoxFan562004 replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(soxwon @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) im so sick of non=believers. THe sox are destined to play in the Series, they will be leading the division all year, like in 05. Rumours of trades in feb, about when were not in contention, make me puke.!!! shut up media, the Sox are the real deal- they are the GAME. Nationally the Sox have actually been getting decent press going into the season. People recognize this is likely the toughest division in the AL, but point to the fact that the Sox had 90 wins last year and will be in the race. I think a lot will end up picking Cleveland for the 3rd straight year, but Sox will be up there.
