  1. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 01:43 AM) Remember this Great Manager he was a jive soul bro
  2. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) Joseph was in the Union, and he did some work on the side, so money wasn't an issue for the Son of God. ...he built my hot rod
  3. QUOTE(rowandrules83 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) define morally justified...it's the player's life and career, if they want to leave for whatever reason, that's their choice i tend to agree with you, I would chose an option along those lines.
  4. ESPN does this now and then... "nothing new to report, so we'll make some completely baseless rumors up that make no sense, but makes the Mets, Yankees or Red Sox better so their fans will continue to read"
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) Friday isn't soon yeah, radio and TV was saying he turned it, but should make the start on Friday, it is only Tuesday, and Friday does seem a long way off
  6. Mel Karmazin (sp?) was on Howard yesterday to talk about the merger, some highlights from what I remember (heard it driving, so if I don't get something 100% correct, please correct) -He will be the head of the company if the merger goes through (forgot what his title would be). -Feels it will easily clear the justice department review of the merger -a little more concerned about the FCC hurdle, but feels stronger than "50%" it will go through -Their argument will be that satellite radio should not be looked at as an industry onto itself, and should be conidered to be competitors against I-Pods, teresterial (sp?) radio and other audio entertainment options -Someone did mention that when the 2 licenses were issued there was a clasue that one company couldn't own both. He really didn't confront it other than to say that clause exists and hopes that it will be reconsidered. (IMO, this may be a problem, because he did say it existed, but never really said how they will overcome this.) -Said they would agree to give assurances about prices or ad regulations if that makes it go through. -Said he doesn't see prices raising, basically using the idea that the merger would slash overhead since it would only be one company, and a lot of the duplicate costs would go away. -He will be testfying at a Congressional Hearing this week about the issue. If I forgot something, or misstated something, please add
  7. I know this is bordering on a week late, but just saw this!! Thanks a lot guys, as I said last year, I really enjoy Soxtalk.com and appreciate the sense of community we have here (Even if we argue sometimes, it just makes it seem more like a real family!)
  8. happy b-day guys... one more to go, huh Soxman?!?!?
  9. it wasn't an overall great show, but "Just Shoot Me" had a few good episodes, and one was when David Cross played the photographers brother who pretend to be retarded so he could keep living with his mom and be taken care of.
  10. Saw in the Trib notes section that Geoff Jenkins may be traded. Seems Brewers want to platoon him with Mench, he wants to play everyday. Can he play LF? I know he wouldn't leadoff, but if Pods is going to be Pods Circa 2006, then they can figure something else out.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Lenny Harris? yup, that's it! I had "Lenny" but I kept thinking Lenny Webster for some reason.
  12. When the Marlins played their first game at U.S. Cellular my friend and I sat right behind the Marlins dugout. When one of the Marlins bats slipped and hit, name slips my mind he was a heavy guy with braids and was an awesome pinch hitter, when he was standing on the top step up the dugout you can see my friend and I panic and dive out of the way when the bat was coming at us. I have the BBTN still TiVo'd, there's a great slo-mo replay of it.
  13. I think it depends on what Carlos wants years in years. If he will take 5, the Cubs will resign him. If he wants 6-7, I'm not as confident the Cubs reup with him, still a chance, but they may bite the bullet and let another team give him the 2 extra years, which I can't see KW giving a pitcher that many years
  14. Cheap Seats had a 1/2 an episode dedicated to a beard competition.
  15. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) talk Punk goes over tonite and possibly gets moved to Raw to feud w/ Nitro. We'll see........ He did go over, so we'll see if he goes to Raw soon. I'm glad to see this, I think Punk is a solid worker and will add to the match at Mania. WWE is so odd. For the last month Punk has been getting jobbed out and his push was all but gone, then he's booked to be apart of a major match at Mania. I guess his punishment worked. I guess Lashley is Vinny Mac's new favorite. Every now and then a worker gets on Vince's goodside and he gets a monster push, no matter how the fans react or what type of worker he is.
  16. Someone made the point earlier, make sure the TV isn't too big for the space you're going to use it. I've had friends get really nice TVs, but they are way too big for their tiny apartments. They would have been much better off getting a TV that fits their space.
  17. Well, the Billy West Spotlight series on Howard 100 the last 2 days was worth the money, espically the "Jackie Puppet" segment. Sounds like merger won't be done soon enough to get baseball this year on Sirius, hopefully maybe by September so I can listen to the critical stretch run games.
  18. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Here's what you'll see I bet. Both systems will work at least for 24 months after the merger... at which point, an upgrade will become necessary, or they'll send a signal that's backwards compatible with both. Commercial free music radio will end on most frequencies. It will clear DOJ approval because there is plenty of sat radio competition. It's main focus is in the car, honestly. Not only are there regular radio stations, there also will be HD radio coming up in the next three to four years... this means that in larger markets, like Chicago, the number of local broadcast stations will double or triple. Within five years of the merger, pricing will have creeped up to 19.99 a month. I doubt there's a lot more room than that where they could raise their rates without having killer attrition. i'm sure they're already starting studies to see what that number is. That's a slippery slope, all it would take is one bad guess, and they'll lose a ton of people. I wonder what this will do to people who bought the lifetime subscriptions. Rex, have you seen any numbers/reports about the car effect? I know Howard isn't responsible for the full roughly 5m they brought in, but you guessed about 1m, I would guess somewhere in the middle at about 2.5m.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) A certain Howard Stern fan on this site is probably none too happy about this.... I'm not the one you're talking about, but as a Stern fan, as long as I can use the Sirius unit I already have, I could care less what umbrella he's under. I'm sure Howard will claim this as a victory, that he took the struggling Sirius, with about 600k users and forced this merger.
  20. Interesting. If those subscriber #'s are right, it looks like Sirius picked up about 5m subscribers since Stern signed on. 100% can't be given to Stern, but IMO a large portion of that is due to him. If XM would have signed Stern, they would have likely driven Sirius out of business. I have Sirius (I'm a huge stern fan, since his show use to be on the syndicated channel 9 out of NY) and I love it. Enjoy the Stern stuff, but listen to the music a lot also.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) I wouldn't worry about that.... If the Sox contend this year and draw a sizable amount of fans, I don't see how anyone can justify lowering the payroll. It's just an idea I can't comprehend. How do you even begin to explain it? Our organization would deserve to be crucified. I agree with 100%. I don't see how the Sox can justify slashing payroll after this year. That just leaves me to wonder what KW's direction will be. He's going to have some cash after this season, with all his comments, I have no idea how he's going to spend it.
  22. The thing I'm waiting for KW to explain is what is his plan going forward? The Sox are going to have a big payroll this year. So once everyone hits FA, are they just going to slash payroll and only have young players? That would upset me. Sox fans have responded since the WS year, and it wouldn't be fair for the Sox to cut payroll significantly after 07. Anyone know what the Sox will have on their books after this year? (taking into consdieration what the Philly is paying of Thome's)
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) I had the hiccups once for three days straight and I thought I was gonna snap. I can't imgine this: http://video.msn.com/v/us/fv/fv.htm??g=392...64&fg=email I had them for 2 days once. It really was a nightmare. I actually went home from work because it was so distracting. I didn't dare call in w/ that excuse, I went in and my boss fully supported me going home. If memory serves me right, I think I ended up calling my doctor and he told me to take some sort of cough syrup and they stopped. 2nd lamest medical situation I've had is I went to the ER with a horrible case of swimmers ear.
  24. wow, whatever the reasons are, I'm sure the Giants are freaking a little bit.
  25. I'm kind of split on the Foo Fighters. I thought that first album was fantastic, and I saw them at the Metro on their first tour (the show they headlined, not opening for Mike Watts) and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen... however, I do see the side of the argument that since the first album the product has gone downhill.
