Glad to see Chuck win. He really outclassed Tito in the 1st and 3rd round. I believe Kempo relies on a lot of counterstriking, so Chuck waited awhile for Tito to make his move. Chuck was great tonight, his sprawl on Tito's takedown attempts was great. Whole card was good. Some good KO's and a sick submission of Leben. I am so jacked to see Rampage in UFC, and Cro Cop is sick, he will be awesome. I can't wait to see him destroy Tim Sylvia

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) No devil's advocate at all. Seeing his kids and how they act I have no doubt she knew exactly what was up, and stayed for those 3 reasons and no other. 5 years ago MJ was crying his eyes out begging her to stay so he could remain in his kids lives full time. She wasn't a fool, she was a mother. But it's cute how he's the dickhead cheater yet she gets called stupid. :rolleyes I agree 100%, it bugs me when people paint him out to be a saint just because he brought Chicago 6 championships. I loved watching MJ on the court, but don't think he's that great of a person off of it.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 08:30 AM) Or, just to play devil's advocate, maybe she wanted her kids to have a two-parent home during their younger years and tried to hang on for that reason. I don't know her, so I don't know her reasons for staying then or leaving now, but sometimes one parent tries to stay for the sake of the kids until they can't take it anymore. I agree with your "devil's" stance here Critic. IMO MJ is not a good guy, one hell of a basketball player, but the stories of his cheating are legendary. I don't think guys who cheat and get a lot of woman when they are married are "cool" if you get married and have gets, put it away, otherwise don't get married. All you do is embarass your wife and kids.

QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) These are the Marlins, the same team that traded Derek Lee straight up for Choi. We should not have to overpay for Baldelli. I would trade BA and a prospect that is not that promising for him. Lee was in a salary dump offseason for the Marlins if memory serves me correctly.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Speaking of player value: My favorite piece of radio insanity is when Matt Abatacolla and Jason Goff were upset because KW said Bmac was untradeable and that they can never trust KW again on his value of their system because they liked Danks more. Well Matt and Jason, prospects are for 2 things, either player development for a future roster member, or for trades for future roster members. If you tell everyone I soured on X player because of this, then how can you get value for that player. lol, great point. What did people expect KW to say "Yeah, we have looked at McCarthy again and we downgraded him, so now we are looking to trade him." Don't forget though, those two learn firsthand from Bernstein who has had some doozies in the past

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) According to the New York post, the appeals court opinion which gave the Feds access to these test results includes the interesting note that of the 10 players that the investigators were specifically seeking information on regarding the BALCO case, 8 tested positive in the 2003 round of testing. We don't know which 8, and honestly I don't know more than 3 of the 10 names they were going after, but that sure means that someone out of Bonds, Sheffield, and Giambi must have failed the test if that report is true. Sheffield, i believe, has admitted he used performance enhancing drugs, he just said he didn't know what they were, and I think the leaks said Giambi was honest in his testimony, hence the infamous "I'm sorry" press conference. I'm trying to think who else was could make up the other 7, maybe Benito Santiago would be one. I remember him playing in SF I think and getting popped for a positive later on.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) It's better than "Its raining men" when Tara Reid was teaching the male strippers how to dance... and other things. I think I posted this earlier in the thread, but I'm way too lazy to go digging, the best use of a song on the show was "Overkill" when Colin Hay was on the show actually playing it. It is a tremendous episode!

I've really done a good job of seeing who I wanted to see... finally saw McCartney last year, saw Cobain with Nirvana. I think the one I wouldn't mind seeing that I haven't is U2, I'm not a huge fan, but they are good and heard their live shows are awesome

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) If we trade another starter, this year will be a bust. So if we do, it had better be for Pelfrey. I don't think the Sox will move any more starters. I agree with you, I think the only way another starter moves is if the offer is insane. FWIW, this is not worthy of its own thread yet, ESPN in the morning was saying that the Sox are still interested in Rocco, and if they get him they would use some of the new prospects they got. (There wasn't more than that, so it could just be espnradio rehashing old news)

QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Shockey may not play Sunday thanks for the info, I have a backup or two... I have a real slow day at work tomorrow so I will check all that out, but thanks for the heads up guys, I appreciate it! -

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) The good thing for you is Ravens Chargers game is at the same time now. They both will be playing to win. I think originally Balt was early game. Great news for me!!! Thanks for passing that along. I am a little worried about Vince this week, he's playing the Pats, but I think the Pats are pretty firm at 3 or 4, so maybe they'll rest. My backup QBs are non-existent... started with Daunte, went to Huard then Frye and finally Young (that QB line-up shows how ridiculous LT was this year in fantasy) -

lol, my commish screwed up and put our actual super bowl in week 17. LT is the cornerstone to my team, so I NEED Balt to win so the Bolts are going for home field. (It was a legit screw up by my commish, the guy is a hardcore fantasy guy, and we switched sites at the last minute and it happed.) My lineup for my actual Super Bowl team: Vince Young (Stellar mid-season pickup for me!) LT DeShaun Foster Andre Johnson Mark Clayton Shockey or D.J. Hackett Shayne Graham Dallas D with your list I agree mostly, except Dayne... I would go Stephan Jackson, somehow I absorbed his 50 points against me last week -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Yep, thats exactly what happened. I'm going to be interested to see who tested positive because my guess is there are some big names that got off the juice following that testing. boy, there's a guy who use to squat behind the plate in Texas for years and years that might fall into that category

Great list statman... Canseco jumps out to me. I was a huge Canseco fan in my younger, more naive, years. I still was a thrill to see him with the Sox, I went to a game where he hit 2 homeruns, including one that looked like a pop-out to short, but just kept going and going. Also, I believe the Sox played in Milwaukee with him and he hit a TITANIC blast towards the slide area.

this is a pro wrestling thread, but I don't think there's enough MMA interest to start a separate thread, so I'll post here. Some internet sites (sherdog.com, mmaweekly.com) are reporting that Mirko Cro Cop has signed with the UFC. Cro Cop is arguably the #2 HW and overall fighter in the world, and is an exciting striker, specificially known for his highlight reel knockouts (He almost killed Wanderli (sp?) Silva with a left high kick a few months back in the Pride FC Open Weight Grand Prix). He has done basically all of his fighting in Japan, mainly with K-1 or Pride. If it is true, he will be an exciting addition to the UFC, and if you enjoy UFC and haven't had an opportunity to see any Pride stuff, you'll be suprised!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 02:58 AM) I don't think the Feds will be able to convict Bonds of perjury, as it's an extremely difficult conviction to make. It's significant in the fact that a lot of reps are going to be tarnished. I tend to agree with you. If the leaks are to be believed Bonds said he never "knowingly" used steroids. So basically a positive test wouldn't do much to bolster the "knowingly" part. He can always just say "Yeah, I thought it was flaxseed (sp?) oil, and my trainer lied to me" Now, many of us may agree that the statement is b.s., but that's different than proving that it is in a court of law.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) Wrestlecrap.com 2006 Gooker nominees initial listing is out. Any other ideas can be e-mailed. They'll have the finals in January where we can all vote. Wrestlecrap.com is a FANTASTIC website. It is well written and very funny. Before it got too popular it had all of its inductees up, it would literally kill hours at a time reading that stuff.

Good to see Alex back. one of the better bench players IMO and he is clutch at the plate!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) None, zip, zero. zilch. Three (NYY, BOS, HOU), and maybe one more (TEX) teams have a chance at Rocket, the rest of the league is out of luck FWIW I've heard on espn radio that the Rangers won't push hard for him this time, they basically know it will only be one of the 3 teams you mentioned first

Yansy's post does a great job of summing up my feelings about the '07 Sox, but I'll add one additional item. I know you don't want to rely on your opponents taking a step back, but I think it is a factor to look at. -Liriano gone for the year hurts the Twins a lot. They'll still be solid, but not running him out every 5th deal will be a big blow -Adding Sheff is a solid move for the Tigers, but I believe espn (no link at hand, sorry) ran a story saying how much pitching a ton of innings for young pitchers really effects them the next year. I expect to see some drop in the Tigers staff next year. With that said, I think it will be a very good 4 team race. I think the Indians always scare me with their young talent, just haven't clicked enough in the last 2 years

1. I've lost 50lbs since High School 2. I turned down the opportunity to go to USC out of high school and ended up at C.O.D. 3. I decided to go to Elmhurst College over The Ohio State University after C.O.D. 4. I went to DePaul Law School instead of University of Arizona 5. My dog's full name is Parker Santo Thomas (he's named after one of the designers on "Trading Places")

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) I was an idiot the other day and took the wrong route to a bar. I ended up in one of those BS safety check road blocks and got hit with a $75 fine for not having a front plate installed. (I have an insert.) I was getting ready to pay the ticket online today when I noticed the Cop wrote my court date as 02/01/06 My lawyer dad doesn't think it's strong enough to pass, but I'm going to ask my cop buddy about this. I've heard of people beating tickets because their name or SSN was wrong, and recall reading something about dates being incorrect. Any good stories or advice? I am an attorney, I think your dad is most likely right. What would happen if you didn't show up on 2/01/07, they would likely issue you a no-show letter with a correct date.

This could be the D-Backs getting Johnson back... there's a thread about that potential already, but ESPN.com's story hint that a 3rd team could be involved
