  1. Great night. I can get as frustrated with this team as anyone, but it's nights like this and obviously the WS season that makes me glad to be a Sox fan!
  2. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) I remember that 14 inning very well. I just couldn't go to bed and had to stay up even though I had to get up really early next day. Sometimes I've regretted staying up too late for school or work, but never this one. The best thing about not having a job right after law school/bar exam was I was unemployed during the playoff run.
  3. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) As much as I mark for Spanky and London, I do gotta admit them having the belts for that long was getting stale. Duece and Domino winning the straps I can see. They're trying to get a marginal gimmick over. And as marginal as it may be, at least it is something creative and out of left field which makes it moderately entertaining. i believe on of them is Snuka's son
  4. I agree with Rock... even if it's just a symbolic move, something has to be done. The swinging for the fences swings on display last night was a joke. Despite what Hawk and DJ said, Tejada was hittable yesterday, and he walked 4 people.
  5. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) Rumor has it he is the unstoppable combination of Paul Byrd, Chad Gaudin and Joe Kennedy all rolled in to one. Bend over now. I heard he was watching a Kenny Rogers instructional video...
  6. CG no hitter and the trade will automatically go down as the worst in baseball history.
  7. I like Scott Ferrall on Sirius 101. I could completely understand why people wouldn't like him, but he talks about gambling lines, has fun with sports, and has great MMA/UFC guests
  8. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't see the Sox dropping out of contention, in fact, I have a good feeling about this team. The pitching has been solid, and the offense has sucked. One game under .500 at this point in the season with this schedule, I'm not ready to write the season off quite yet. I think the Twins, Indians, Tigers and Sox all have strengths and weaknesses. I don't see why we as Sox fans, especially now that it's getting backed up with ratings and box office, we can't expect KW to take a Braves type approach and mix quality FA signings/trades for veterans with young players and compete for an extended period of time (and no, I don't expect the Sox to rip off 10+ division titles, but be competitive). If the Sox really want to shoot themselves in the foot with the newly regained fanbase, they would cut payroll after this year. What type of message would that send if the Sox get 3m or near it again this year and let everyone walk?!? IMO it would take them years to recover from that PR hit. I'm usually not an optimist or just put blind faith in people, but KW won a WS, something that hasn't happened in a town with 2 major league teams since 1917. I will give KW the benefit of the doubt. He's not an idiot, he has some good young players and a top 10 payroll. I think he has them in a position to compete this year, and I trust he has a plan to keep them competitive.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Santo goes thats the momentum changer. yeah, it was such a momentum changer that the cubs hung a huge zero in the bottom half of the inning
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2836388 not worth a separate thread yet... Aramis Ramirez is not playing today because his wrist has swollen up pretty bad
  11. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) I heard on the radio that through out all of his time on the DL, he has never had surgery. That just seems crazy. How do you spend all this time on the DL because you feel "achey" Right, that's the bizzare thing about him. I believe there's actually been an examination that came back finding no physical problems. That could have not told the whole story, but yeah, I believe they haven't really found any physical problems with him other than the weird double jointed thing that's brought up.
  12. get ready for her bf to "accidently" see you guys together IMO this is just asking to be a part of a major pain in the ass situation.
  13. I would think that this exam by Dr. Yokum will be very important. If it comes back showing no real physical injury, I think the Cubs just have to cut bait with this guy because it basically would say this is mostly mental. If it comes back with an identified physical injury, then if I were the Cubs, I would give him another shot at rehabing the injury. It will be interesting to see what comes of it, because, if memory serves me right, he has had other exams that have said he is basically OK physically.
  14. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) I'm probably wrong, but I remember it being the O's wanting more than Prior, or wanting somebody else all together (Zambrano?) and it was more the O's who didn't want to settle for Prior. Can anybody back me up on that? Or was it just Phil Rogers speculation? I recall him doing a lot of that when the deal was being considered. From what I remember, I think the Cubs offered Prior, O's wanted Zambrano.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:03 AM) I actually do feel really good about this team right now. It's still up to the pen, because I just don't see how the middle of the lineup can keep hitting as s***ty as it has thus far. That is, of course, so long as the pitching remains a constant throughout the year instead of just the first two months, like last year. I agree with you. Last nights lost sucked, but the pitching has shown signs of being very good, hopefully that's a good sign for the summer.
  16. hopefully Oz and Coop told Masset to be ready just in case MB goes out there and he has problems with his forearm.
  17. I think the last 2 years Jenks velocity has built up throughout the year, so we'll see where he's at later. IMO yesterday was lost based on bad pitch selection. Walker fouled off a solid curveball, and instead of climbing the ladder with the FB (Walker, if memory serves me right, has a high K rate) he went after him with another curve, and Walker made a great swing on it.
  18. I agree with TS. If they're not going to play BA reguraly they should have kept one of the veteran OFs and let BA get AAA ABs, to either keep sharp, or see if he could be trade bait. Hopefully the Toby Hall thing will clear up and KW tries to get a veteran backup if he's no go. It seems like Ozzie is playing with a 23 man roster.
  19. yeah, i heard on the radio they didn't want him pitching in the cold weather, even though they swear there's no physical problems
  20. Last night was good, I really enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to how this plays out. A bit of me is afraid they are going to do a movie, and do a big cliffhanger at the end, but ultimately I don't think that would happen (signing the whole cast for a movie would be too much, they would have all the leverage unless there was something in their existing contracts.) Just a stab, I think Bobby and Janice may double cross Tony and inform. That's just an obvious leap from Bobby's reaction from greasing that guy yesterday. However, I don't think they'll go the "Tony gets it through the legal system" route, just simply because to have ultimate closure, they would need a ton of episodes for that arc to play out.
  21. QUOTE(juddling @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 01:42 AM) Just an odd wrestling note....former WCW/WWE tag team champ and MMA fighter Sean O'Haire got his butt kicked outside a bar the other night.........sound pretty bad butt-kicking Watch his fight from Pride 32 against Butterbean, I imagine it looked a lot like that
  22. Hawk's homerism gets annoying sometime, but listen to Len Casper (sp?) and you'll see how horrible a "generic" broadcaster can be. I enjoy The Hawk on the broadcasts, despite some flaws. I would rather listen to a broadcaster who has the same passion for the team that I do, rather than someone who is brought in not to stir things up. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) I like Hawk but the only thing that bothers me about him is not him being a huge homer, but how he talks about the sox opponents. If someone is having a good game about the sox (i.e. a pitcher we have never seen before and cant hit) Hawk will make them out to be the next cy young, clemens, etc. It gets old really quick. But i do still love hawk and do miss whimpy! 100% agree. That is easily the thing that gets to me the most. It hit its peak with me during a couple of the KC games last year. I can't remember the pitcher, but he was trash, and was trash against everyone else except the Sox, and Hawk was saying how awesome the guy was.
  23. Good, anything at this point, Masset (sp?) hopefully opened eyes
