White Sox vs. Blue Jays, 5/31/07 (L)
SoxFan562004 replied to ShoeLessRob's topic in 2007 Season in Review
OK, I had some hope for the 8th and 9th, but that first AB just killed that buzz. What a pathetic effort today by the team at the plate. Great job MB, great effort -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) He will need to work on his submissions. Wrestling helps with take downs and ground control. However watching great wrestlers like Kostchek look lost after they mount, is what I would worry here. He really needs to know how to get into position to strike or he will need to be able to submit and defend against submissions. Plenty of wrestlers look great on the take downs, but cant do anything once they get control. I dont think he can go toe to toe striking yet. He is strong but it takes time to get that part going. Having Gracie as your trainer cant hurt on the submissions. From what I understand that was more publicity than reality. I heard he trained with Militech for awhile and the Showtime show hyping the PPV mentioned two others that slipped my mind. Lesnar is a freak athlete, I'm interested to see how he does. If he gets against a good striker he may be in trouble

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) Glad means you were rooting for him to get hurt, which I certainly wasn't. I'm just laughing at Hawk right now. And the answer to this question on T.V. is Gio. way Hawk sounded he was told more than he was saying. -

what a bogus effort by a bogus team tonight. To me IMO, Erstad blew his achilles (sp?) -

unreal. I can't believe Ozzie's decisions tonight on the basebaths (I don't blame the Erstad play with Mack getting thrown out at home, that was a nice play by Overbay) MB is going to lose this game 1-0 giving up probably 3 hits when it's done -
Just a general MMA note, Saturday night, K-1 is running a show in L.A. and will be on PPV. Former WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar will headline. The match of note to me is a rematch of Sakuraba "the Gracie Hunter" and Royce Gracie. There first match went something like 90 minutes with Sakuraba winning. Many people point to that as the turning of MMA from Gracie Jiu Jitsu ground dominating to the more overall game of today. I'm a pretty big MMA fan, but not sure if I'll get this. p.s. If you want to see a fun/crazy MMA fight youtube takayama vs frye

QUOTE(juddling @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) i don't know if anyone else has seen the add but i saw it on TBS last night for some mixed-martial arts PPV. not really my things till i saw Brock Lesnar in the ad. He looked a bit smaller in the ad than i remember from WWE (maybe its for more speed). He did have a nice cobra tattoo on his chest however Yeah, K-1 is running a show in L.A., he's headling it. Originally it was supposed to be against the 7 foot Hong Man-Choi, but Choi couldn't pass they physical, so now it's against another Korean fighter, but the name escapes me at this moment. Also on the card is Sakuraba "The Gracie Hunter" vs. Royce Gracie in a rematch

Arnold's Complete Guide To Modern Bodybuilding (or title is something similar) is an awesome book to have. It talks a ton about world-class bodybuilding, but it has a ton of exercies and what they do, ie tone or build mass. even for people who work out once in awhile, it's a must have. There's also a program out there called "Big Beyond Belief" it's reasonable to follow, and if you can't do it all out, it gives you good theories about how to work your muscles (link to Amazon below) http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Belief-Effect...2370&sr=1-3

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 30, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) I'm tired of the lifeless Sox we've been watching since 2nd half like the rest of you guys, but I'm not quite ready to give up when June hasn't even started yet. Let's talk in a month. you hit the nail on the head with me using that word, sums it up well.

such a bad game to lose, if they pull this out it's fixable, but to squander that lead was horrible. Garland walking 3 with a 5 run lead is unexcusable

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ May 29, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Tell me about it. Its hard to bet on something where a guy can dominate for three rounds and lose because of one punch or kick. I think the Gonzaga over Crocop was the biggest upset so far this year. I tend agree about the CroCop loss. However, I think Nick Diaz beating Gomi at the last PRIDE show in Vegas is an underated upset (Although Diaz got that win pulled because he tested positive for marijuana, still in the fight itself it was quite an upset.) Upsets will happen in MMA a lot more than boxing because of the different things people can do to improve. Look at the CroCop/Gonzaga loss. It looks to me CroCop saw the kick coming, and was actually dropping it from his head to protect a lower kick. To me, CroCop just never saw Gonzaga kick that high and was caught offguard by it. Good job by Gonzaga to evolve his game.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Boy am I glad our pitchers can go into Minn and get those hitters hot. I am sure Twins fans will be sending thank you letters. i'm not advocating head hunting at all, but Ozzie has been known to order batters to be brushed back. How many times do the hitters on the Twins have to sit in there comfortably and flick at balls before one of them is made unconfortable in the box? Instead Ozzie just seems to take the "these things happen" approach to the Twins.

I'm definitely on the Wunsch bandwagon. I have a game worn white home jersey I got at Soxfest that I wear all the time. It was less than getting a new jersey and getting his name on it

absolutely horse bleep game. Yesterday's game could have set them off on a 5 game tailspin.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...29&zoneid=2 update on the PRIDE/UFC situation... looks like all the mega-fights will happen in UFC

tomorrow's game is huge. You score 4 runs off of Johan and Jose can's make it stand. Sox need to come out tomorrow, have a good game and put this one behind them
-
wow, between yesterday and so far today, this team has played horribly. They look asleep out there

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) Glad I am not the only one that thinks of this criminal player this way. to expand on that, I usually don't mix guys personal lives with how I feel about them when rooting for them, however, I would have a hard time rooting for Kobe. That whole incident in Colorado sickened me, and I don't care if nothing was found criminally, I looked at what happened, how he handled it and I think he's a horrible human being.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ May 27, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) I think i'm more excited for Rampage's next fight than this one. Rampage vs. Henderson is going to be a very good fight and I guarantee Dan will be a very good match for Rampage. He isn't a 2 weight champion in Pride for no reason. Rampage vs. Henderson in the UFC... if I would have told you that at the beginning of the year you thought I would have been nuts!! It will be interesting to see what they do with PRIDE now, it seems UFC is just signing all their top fighters to UFC contracts, taking the "Superbowl of MMA" idea out of the picture. Rumors had Shogun Rua being announced at 71, that didn't happen, but that would be another crazy sign to the 205. Wanderli Silva might take a year off, IMO there's still a ton of money in the Chuck vs. Wandy match, now they can sell it as a redemption match for both fighters. I really hope Fedor signs with PRIDE/UFC, there was some talk he might sign exculsively with Bodog, which would be terrible, since his competition would be a joke.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) Some of the best advice. I have been doing alot of free weights lately to tone up and work on my stablizing muscles, so obviously my dumbbell bench wont be as heavy as my barbell. But I see these guys doing curls, incline etc and just having the worst form ive ever seen. I always thought that 8-10 perfect reps work you more than 15 of the poorest reps you can do. Its better to feel the improvements and the resistance yourself than try and be the guy who picks up the biggest weight. Inclined dumbell is a great exercise, I really feel the isolation on that one. Also, if you've been working out dilligently for a month or so and one week your body just doesn't feel up to working out, LISTEN TO IT!!! Take the whole week off or cut it down to 2 actual days and a day of hitting all the muscle groups with little weight, just to do the form.

it was a good listen when it went down. Basically, Artie was feeling that Howard was attacking his weight and drug problems too much (basically Artie got mad Howard brought a girl in to meet Artie who said she had a fat fetish and Artie was uncomfortable with that), and when Howard told Artie he was his "bro" Artie basically said he didn't think they were friends at all and Howard only really cares about the radio show. That argument went on for about an hour, then later Artie talked about his health problems and talked about leaving in January. not the best description because it is hard to describe, you could tell there were real emotions there though. If Artie leaves, I hope they keep an active person in that chair. Benjy just writes and Fred usually doesn't say anything. I think the show is better with a 3rd voice to balance out Robin and Howard.

something that is overlooked is sleep. You can workout and eat all the protein you want, but if you don't get enough sleep your body is not going to properly recover

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 23, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) I don't recall seeing Sox highlights last night though The 9:00 had them. Danks wasn't picked in their stupid draft thing, but the commentators actually praised him.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Heres a question for the people who live in the chicago area: If you want to watch sox or overall baseball highlights for the night, do you turn on Comcast Sportsnite or ESPN BBTN? Oh, and did Danks' ridiculous backhand grab make it on Web Gems last night? Yes, #2 I believe, the ending of the Angels/Tigers came had a great catch by O. Cabrera that was #1 ESPN News does a good job IMO, it covers a lot and is straightforward.
