  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Are the Knicks the fail or what? Are they serious with the second option? lmao wow, I know LBJ is going to make a ton more off of endorsements than this NBA contract, but there's no way he takes 11.5 and pays the NY tax, I would have audibly laughed if I was one of LBJ's advisers in that room and they brought that option up with a follow up question/statement of "You guys expect Lebron to do all of your jobs, you going to have him sell popcorn at halftime? You should have had better players in place before walking in here."
  2. Going to have to miss 116 Saturday for a wedding, will be an interesting card though. Leban has a chance to take a huge jump in 2 weeks if he can beat Akiyama and the other 3 PPV fights aren't exactly contender fights (although Sotiropoulos is a fighter to keep an eye on) all have a chance to be barn burners, hence they're on a card that will get a lot of casual 1-2x a year PPV buyers with Brock on is. As for the main, I don't know who to pick, if Brock didn't have the year lay off I would lean towards him but still very close. Brock's chin hasn't really been tested so that will be the interesting thing to see because Carwin hits extremely hard, I can see a stalemate type of match with Brock laying on Carwin standing against the cage
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) They've tried and failed miserably at getting that legit #2 man to pair with Lebron. Larry Hughes? Fail. Mo Williams? Fail. Antwan Jamison? Fail. And they've lacked athletes and multi-skill players for as long as Lebron has been there. The reason they've had the success they've had is because they play in a clearly inferior conference. If they were in the West, they'd be an annual 6-8 seed every year. If Lebron stays in Cle it will only be for 3 years to give them one last ditch effort and pulling something off, but with that roster and the lack of flexibility if he stays the next 3 years will be similar to his other years there.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) LeBatard now claims he "heard" about the trade as a possibility, but isnt reporting it as true. lol, wow, that is a ridiculous backtrack!! Then he should have worded it a ton better, but hey, I'm sure his google trend number went up today!
  5. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Bosh sign and trade apparently was retracted (according to the Score). OK, that's a new update, all I heard and posted about an hour ago was the score reporting a report from Toronto said there's no truth to the Bosh sign and trade and in the NBA thread that's pinned SoxAce posted a link saying Collangelo would want Noah from the Bulls or Lee from the Knicks for Bosh's 6 year sign and trade, not Beasley
  6. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) lol lebatard CLARIFICATION: I was referring to James Jones (he was released.) Have NO IDEA what LeBron will do. Stugotz 3 minutes ago via web lol, great job Dan! Yes, I automatically think of him instead of Lebron when discussing the NBA and "James" comes up!!
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) The hauls for Lee have both been pretty mediocre. Jason Knapp, Jason Donald, Lou Marson, and Carlos Carrasco have all looked pretty mediocre both in the majors and in the minors for Cleveland, and Gillies, Aumont, and Ramirez have all been pretty terrible for the Phillies. The guys Toronto got for Halladay have been pretty solid though. Drabek has struggled with his command a bit, but he's been pretty solid otherwise, d'Arnaud has performed quite well (even if it's High-A ball), and, though Michael Taylor has struggled with the Athletics, he was traded for Brett Wallace, who looks like he's atleast close to MLB ready - .301/.363/.507/.869 in 339 PAs this season, and he put up .302/.365/.505/.870 in 203 PAs with the Athletics' AAA team too, and, though he's striking out in about 21% of his plate appearances, he can afford to strike out a bit due to his ability to actually be a significant offensive piece. The Nats have to do their due diligence though and ask for the moon, because if they can resign Dunn to an affordable deal, that team could quite conceivably be competitive in 2-3 years. What are the players that Cle got for CC doing?
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) The Nats have to do their due diligence though and ask for the moon, because if they can resign Dunn to an affordable deal, that team could quite conceivably be competitive in 2-3 years. they could always resign him after the season if he's traded. If they ask for the moon they won't move him, but at least they can offer him arb and get the 2 picks, so I could see them sticking to their guns.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) He said that Bosh was going to the Heat in a sign and trade. Which average fans on this site knew sounded funny. And he is now retracting. Just another guy putting his name on the rumors. And apparently he backed the Stephen A. Smith LeBron to the heat rumors because SAS can't be wrong twice (that's according to Goff). Is he retracting the Bosh or just saying James isn't going to Miami?
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, journalism has basically been a myth in this story. It's all about getting s*** to throw against the wall, throwing it, and hoping it sticks. Getting it right is irrelevant, getting it first is what counts. Ugh, LeBatard saying he will not play for the Heat next year definitively makes them a bigger threat IMO. I have no doubt teams and players are using it, so some of it is throwing s*** against the wall and some of it is strategy
  11. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Now I havent been around the world of sports because I have been working most of the day but wasnt he saying the EXACT opposite early at like noon? that would have been an update from his first report, because all lebatard said was Bosh to Miami, he didn't throw James in there from what I saw, but I actually let work get in the way for about 4 hours today!!!!
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) As Rowand has said, I'm not believing anything until said player has signed at the dotted line or if a sign and trade is finalized. when a major rumor like that is out there and there's no follow-up confirmations (note, I don't count this as a confirmation of SASs rumor, why they both have Bosh in Miami the time and scenarios are different enough) in a decent amount of time they fall to the side to me, basically nobody really has such crazy inside sources that they can get something confirmed and nobody else can confirm it for 1/2 a day. Especially when dealing with 2 teams
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) Peavy is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP against the Royals in 2 starts this year. He can keep doing that. it's a good team for him to face, especially in that ballpark
  14. FWIW at this point, the Score is citing a report from Toronto saying their is no truth to the Lebatard (sp?) rumor
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) What they want and what we're willing to offer are two very different things. Lets see how this all shakes out. excellent point, there are other bats that will move, I highly doubt any team is going to give the equivalent to a Beckham or Q for Dunn for 3 months.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:00 AM) Clearly his swing is better...I'm just not sure that his head is better, and that's just as fatal of a flaw. (Side note...usually the more vehemently I express doubts about someone, the quicker they turn it around. The more I vent about Kotsay hitting some day, the more likely he is to get a couple of hits, I've noticed). I agree that some of his struggles concern me, but, and I honestly have no clue about this, is there concerns about Beckham's partying like there was about BA?
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) Forgot it was Greinke. Yeah I guess I wouldn't mind if he sat out either then. for the most part though, I agree with you and would like to see him start day in and day out, even against righties
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) So, if Rivers is gone and Rasheed is gone and you're Boston, how do you deal with this offseason? Is it legit "Throw in the towel and rebuild" time, at which point you let Pierce walk, or do you dump a lot of money into trying to hold it together for one more year. In their position, I probably say that their run is over and go for the rebuild, but I don't have a franchise's finances to manage. yeah, that's a tough call, because in the next 1-2 weeks it's a real possibility that outside of 2-3 teams in the east, rebuilding is going to take about 5 years due to the FA shakeup that is about to happen, hopefully the Bulls are in the 2-3 teams!
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 07:47 AM) I really hope he doesnt sit today following his game last night, but I won't be surprised either way. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2010&t=p Lefties are hitting significantly better against him this year, and only 7 fewer PAs than RHBs, so I could deal with it if Ozzie stacks the lineup with lefties, but knowing Ozzie he'll stack the line-up with righties!
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) I'm worrying about Beckham seriously going all Anderson to the point that turning him into 2 draft picks doesn't sound awful any more. beckham's swing, IMO, is far better than Anderson's ever was, IMO that would be way too much for a 3 month rental and with the other bat's likely to get traded I highly doubt the Nat's get anywhere near that level of player/prospect for Dunn, but doesn't hurt to ask.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) But he didn't. He even put Ozzie on the spot at Soxfest by bringing Thome back into the fold. I think he knew that he could add someone if needed during the season, which is why he ultimately let Ozzie have his way. But my guess is he had a pretty good idea that this current situation might present itself and we could get burned pretty badly. to this point, but again, look at Thome's August numbers from last year, when he had the 2nd most PAs, the White Sox could be justified a little at the end... shack, I do agree with you though that letting him go for the money wasn't the best decision, but he was slowing down posting .250 under his Aug. career OPS, and again, the White Sox saw him everyday during that stretch and how his body was reacting.
  22. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 12:44 AM) LeBron's going to meet with teams over 3 days, so nothing much will happen until then. it will be fun/anxious times, after every meeting there will be some source saying he promised team X he was signing with them he will just meet with the other teams as a courtesy
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) I don't think anyone is arguing that he was the ideal target this offseason. I was willing to let him walk as well. I think it was reasonable to assume he would decline a bit more, and I still think there is a chance that he may. But when it became apparent that there was no other option even in the stratosphere (until Damon), the decision to bring back Thome was so incredibly obvious that the Twins decided to sign him when they had a much lesser need for him than we did. unless KW thought the Sox were close enough as is to stay in contention, which by a miracle streak they are, and he liked his potential options for trade in mid-season better than anything out there at the time
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) And this is not some "fluke" that is happening right now. Jimmy has done this for the last 15 years! It's not hindsight, it's not second guessing, it's what the statistics have been saying for basically his entire career. Why is that saying "after the fact" that the guy can still do it when he never gave us any statistically significant reason to doubt him? Now I make this argument just to make it, but I do agree that his OBP alone is worth 2m, but his Aug/Sept last year were bad and that's not really a career trend for him... career: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dunnad01.shtml Aug OPS 1.008 and Sept .874 2009: Aug .798 (2nd most PA he had in a month all season) and Sept in only 17 PAs in a pinch hit role .471 And the Sox saw him everyday until he went to the LAD, Herm might have been part of the discussion as well in deciding not to bring him back.
  25. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) You make an excellent point, this could explain the sparse, cherry-picked playing time that Dayan has been seeing. This would lead me to believe that Kenny has been in talks with Washington for probably a couple weeks, if not longer. Though you'd think any GM worth their salt would see the difference between a young up-and-comer being ML Ready, and a young kid being thrown into the best possible scenarios to succeed to increase his trade value OK, I'm going off a ridiculously small sample size, but seeing how much he K'd in the minors I am actually surprised at some of the pitches he's taken in the extremely small sample size I have seen him.
