If price is a factor, just save your money and get a pool table from the Great Escape or F.I.M or some Rec Room place after the New years. We got a 7 foot slate table, cues, racks, chalk, balls, cover and professional installation for under $1000.
Look at the season Matt Stairs is having. How about him for LF and backup first baseman next year? Hey, look at the LF defense we dealt with over the past 4 years.
...and I enjoy seeing the sox win games instead of losing them regardless of what the situation is.
Also, what is the difference in signing bonus between a #2 and a #6? What can we do with that money to improve our minor league system as well?
Wrong.
The Sox need a new philosohy and better scouting. That will pay off much greater dividends than a single pick.
I'd much rather spend $4 million on scouts instead of a hyped up high schooler or college kid. Agreed?
I still don't understand how a "fan" would encourage losing because of some crapshoot draft. Success in the MLB draft results a s***LOAD more in scouting and the philosophy of the minor league system over something as silly as a draft position in a 60+round draft. Hell, these days most of the great MLB players aren't even drafted.
He blew it on crap. Remind me of all the players that were signed after the Garcia trade?
As I said in another thread, if I sold my magic beans to some sucker, I still wouldn't feel too good about myself if I used that money to buy some garbage.
I'm not saying spending $10 million on Freddy to rehab is a good move (even if it was insured,) I'm saying the money that was "saved" was spent on garbage so it wasn't a good move. We also paid a higher price to get Gio back when his value was lower than when we first traded him.
Mark Prior and Kerry Wood have more injury history than Freddy did before 2006, but they will be cheaper due to their current contracts, so if they were available this offseason I would have interest in them (more so in Prior.)
Really? Even if that money that was "freed" up was spent on Crede, Pods, Erstad, and Hall (they were not signed at the time of the Garcia trade,) really?
If I sold some magic beans and used the money to buy some rotten tomatoes, I wouldn't be doing backflips over it.
What is your evidence to this as I am led to believe the Reds and/or Pirates have the worst systems in the MLB? How many other organizations fo you regularly scout?
I've never seen a source, but cheat mentioned there is a handshake agreement between the Sox and Philly for the Phillies to pick up $5.5 million if the Sox do indeed pick up the option for 2009
I'd still like to see Tejada on the Sox, perhaps as a #2 hitter, but that contract requires some strong financial equipment. If that doesn't work out, I think I could live with Omar Vizquel for a year.
How many players in the modern era have experienced a dip in OPS by almost 300 points from one year to the next without suffering a serious injury? I wonder if there are any Cleveland fans who act like some Sox fans thinking they should get rid of their DH who doesn't play in all 162 games a year.
