QUOTE(vandy125 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Am I the only one who is reading this as KW just being a good boss? Maybe building up the view with his players that he is loking out for them? He is not giving them the BS view that they should sign without even considering the FA market with how high it is right now. I would be insulted if someone kept pushing me to sign without exploring my enormous options that would be available. I would imagine that if the offers on the market are similar to what the Sox are offering, these players will be back. If not, they won't be back, and they would not have been BSed by KW. Us fans don't like hearing any conversation of key players leaving the team or exploring other options, but good God look at that market. You would have to be dumb to not see what was there, and you would be even dumber if you told your players that they shouldn't and expect them to listen to you. Hey it more fun to assume he is saying the Sox are going through a rebuilding phase, not going to try and re-sign these guys, and not try and sign suitable replacements. How is this any different with how Beane handled Tejada and Giambi? Oh right, KW didn't say the Sox weren't going to try and re-sign them.

Zambrano: Sign me before the season starts or I'm out

Why do I bother posting the stats if only shoota is going to read them? Cincy wasn't that good of an offensive team last year, they were one of the worst hitting teams away on the road, and they had the worst offense in September. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ the truth -
With that home ballpark, pitching in Petco and Dodger Stadium, and the NL to AL translation I think Zito will put up some solid numbers this season.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 07:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cincy might have been a crappy team, but that wasn't because of the offense. They have some guys on that team who can hit. Now their pitching... That doesn't make them a good offensive team even with their home ballpark, as they were 22nd in the MLB in runs scored, 15th in team OPS, and 28th in team BA. By the time September rolled around, their boneheaded GM traded away two of their better hitters in Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns for Royce Clayton and pitchers. For the month of September the Reds were dead last in the MLB with 91 runs scored. Other fun stats about Cincy's great offense. Road stats: 29th in team BA (.001 ahead of the Pirates) 21st in team OPS 25th in runs scored. -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Zambrano was getting a lil cy young hype for awhile last year so I dont understand how its bull... It wasn't deserved, it was shoved down our tubes because of the media (sorry to borrow your line Hangar) and a lot of it was based on his past performances. And about the Reds, I saw them in person, and they suck. 3 games behind the Cardinals makes them a sub .500 team. -
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, he was great up to that point 2 weeks before the All-Star break, so I suppose it all depends on when Ozzie picked his players. He lost his next 6 decisions (2 before the break) and at the break, there were 11 pitchers with as many wins as Buehrle and a better ERA. ....and at the time the selections were made, only 5 other had an ERA better than's Buehrle's 3.22. Liriano, Lackey, Halladay, Santana and Verlander. Guys with higher first half ERA's who made the team: Redman (5.27,) Contreras (3.38,) Zito (3.29,) Rogers (3.85) and Kazmir (3.27.)

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> False, 9 - 6 with a 4.02 ERA is not spectacular. And it very likely would not have gotten him on the All-Star team if his coach wasn't picking the players. That's bulls***. The day the rosters were already set, Buehrle got CRUSHED by the Cubs. He was 9-5 with a low 3 something ERA when Guillen picked him for the team.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Take a deep breathe. I said MAY have won the Cy Young. I never said he should have nor did I say he was the best pitcher in the NL. But lets not let the facts get in the way of the truth. ...and I said "bull" because even if those things happened, I don't think he "may" have won Cy Young. Looking at his game log in September: Against the Pathetic Pirates he went 1.1 IP giving up 5 runs, (4 ER) claiming back pain as the Cubs lost 5-4. Can't blame the offense there. He was responsible for every run, and the bullpen was good after he left. Against Crappy Cincy: 7 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 0ER. Hey nice game. Cubs won 11-3. Damn lack of run support. Against Crappy Cincy again: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 4 ER. Not a quality start, but in Cliff Lee fashion, he got the win because the Cubs scored 11 runs. Where's the run support excuse again? Last start of the year against the Crappy Rockies: 7 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB. Cubs lose 5-2. Pretty good outing by Zambrano, but he was outdueled by Josh Fogg. So looking at his "last weeks of the season," he pitched pretty well with the exception of two outings. One of which was due to an injury, and the other one he still got the win (and he still pitched ok in it.) He did this all against 3 bad, bad teams and got enough run support (4 runs against the Pirates should be enough for an "ace,) including 11 runs against the same team twice. But why let the facts get in the way of the truth? :rolly -
QUOTE(bad at best @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does anyone know why we didnt trade Garcia before the 2006 season while he had 2yrs on his contract? Gaarcia would have had more value and we had McCarthy ready for the 5th spot (and i dont want to hear any "he wasnt ready", because her was a hell of alot more ready than any of the people competing for the 5th spot this year) Supposedly KW was shopping Garcia but wasn't happy with the offers.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Zambrano may have won the Cy Young last year. Bull. He sucked in April, and got plenty of run support when he faced us. Webb won it last year (had better numbers) yet I still think it could've been Oswalt, and it should've been Carpenter. His WHIP was the same as Javy's and higher than Garcia's, of course they faced much tougher opponents. -

But after looking it over some more, would we really want BMac for another 5 years? He was discovered by our s***ty scouts. Right Flash? I see Rowand's name mentioned. Wasn't he drafted and signed by the Sox's scouts within the last 10 years? How much impact should we expect from a player if he was drafted 1 or 2 years ago? This isn't the NBA or NFL. Back to the Garcia trade, I said at the time the Sox should've gotten more, and I still feel that way. On the day Freddy was traded, Schmidt, Lilly and Meche all signed big contracts. IMO KW thought that was the best time to sell, but Jennings netted a nice package, and Marquis and Miguel Batista got overpaid as well.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1997 ...and even then it wasn't the Red Sox. But I guess everybody just hates the Red Sox since they don't pick them to win the division. I think a more interesting discussion would be if the Rays will actually make it out of the cellar this year.

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In our division, it's vital to have guys who can hit lefty pitching. You wouldn't hear one complaint from me if Perez was the DH against every LHP, and Thome was on the bench. I know it won't happen like that, but it would improve our offense against LHP. Last year, I believe the Sox were like 3 and 12 in games started by Johan, C.C., and Kenny Rogers. Those guys are great, but if you're going to win your division, you can't be dominated like that by the top pitcher of your rivals. I actually agree with you that it's fascinating how much some of us hate him after 2005. Just think how much it must suck for Houston to think this guy is good! Looking forward to sparing with you in 50 days or so. In fairness to Thome, besides Pablo Ozuna, he hit Santana the hardest last year: .250/.250.750. Last year we crushed Robertson (Perez was 6-9, 1.838 OPS,) but not C.C or Rogers.

Very surprised by this signing. The first thing that popped into my head was his homer against Buehrle on opening day. I think the Sox will wait and see how Mack, Pods, Brian and Perez all play in ST before possibly moving Pods to the DL, Anderson to AAA, Mack to another team, or seeing if Perez will be Bucky Jacobsen's replacement.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 06:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The radar detector will vary based on your policy and how it was mounted. They sometimes will have exclusions for after market accessories. You also will have to pay your deductible, which in many policies is different, and separate, from the glass. Yep, therefore it wasn't covered in my insurance, and I would need comprehensive insurance to pay for it anyways. However, if I had a homeowner's or renter's insurance, they would cover the aftermarket product. My sister's deductible for her homeowner insurance is the same as my car ($1000,) so I didn't file a claim. I didn't look around too much for the best price, but through the internet I had someone come to my work and fix it in about 45 minutes for just under $200. This sucks. I guess it's actually pretty common out here for this kind of crap.
-
Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and Washington DC
-
Car got broken into last night. Step 1. filed police report. Then what? Call the insurance company? What type of insurance do I need have my $300 radar detector covered for? Who fixes my glass? I was told to go to a car dealership, but then I heard people can come to your work an do it.
