QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nice job, paulie whatever, dye. couldn't even take it out of the park. only a RBI double. i hate this team. Didn't you hear Ozzie? Last year we hit "too many" homers. We need more grind outs and other hits that don't guarantee us a run.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So I know we K a lot with a power lineup, but what the f*** is going on. Everyones bat is missing the ball. Grindstad grounds out weakly to the 2nd baseman 2 out, no body on base. This will be how our first innings go most of the year. Paulie singles back up the middle on a low and away pitch. Nice job. From now on anytime Darin hits a weak chopper to the right side of the infield, it shall be known as a "Grind out." How many pitches did Darin (keep spelling "Drain") see?

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's plausable. The bullpen has all the potential in the world to be an absolute mess, especially if Jenks can't get his s*** together. What's to say any of the starting rotation turns it around? Jim Thome is obviously on the decline, the center fielder is a 4th outfielder, the leadoff hitter is more fragile than glass. They're out (again) a good back up catcher. Does Jermaine Dye have it in him to have another MVP-like season? It's going to be an interesting year. But the first month of the season will answer a lot of questions.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if Rogers pitches terribly, and possibly endures injury throughout the season, they'll have Andrew Miller available. We don't have an Andrew Miller, unfortunately. yeah we just need more minor leaguers who haven't proved jack to sign for millions of dolllars and demanding to be added to the major league roster without throwing a single pitch.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If the Sox are going to be crappy this year, I hope they're out of the race by July 28th. I'm not so sure I'm going to be able to watch their home night game on that Saturday. Do you really want the Sox to flip Buehrle for another Gavin Floyd and ex-Sox prospect?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sorry but I totally disagree, Erstad has actually looked pretty bad at the plate hence his 13 Ks and only 4 BB, the guy has been flailing like crazy on anything with movement and is having trouble with strike zone judgment. Anderson has had some hot streaks, it's true but it's not like Erstad hasn't been doing the exact same. As of last week his OBP was below .300, he's picked up some singles along with a home run over the past few games and upped his spring numbers. Atleast Brian has stayed consistent with his approach at the plate, the guy is taking pitches nicely and getting deep into counts, he's gone 3-1 more times than I can count this spring. His swings are still choppy as hell though, he's really got to work on cutting them down. Hence his 7 BB and 7 SO. I've seen every AB the each of them have had this spring most of them a second time and Brian has earned a starting spot on this club, he's done exactly what was asked of him. If Erstad had outplayed Brian in the 24 more ABs he's had I'd be more than happy to endorse him as the starting CF because of his baseball savvy, quality fundamentals and team leadership skills and frankly I'm not a big fan of Anderson as a hitter. I'm just waiting for Erstad to show some sort of batter's eye. As Ozzie said, the guy who produces during spring is going to win the job and it's tough to argue that Erstad's spring production has been greater than Anderson's. If Anderson was an Angels' prospect, chisoxfn would be all over him. This spring, Anderson >>> Erstad

QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 05:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Erstad hit .300 in 70 ab's --by far the most on the team this spring. A case can be made for Pods being handed a job but Erstad proved himself. He blooped his way to .300 and the number of at-bats shows Ozzie's preferences and the number of "a" games he has been playing. Why do you care so much about batting average?

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's your win prediction this year? Honestly, this team in a vacuum is around 83 wins IMO. But because baseball is such a great game, we have no idea how the other teams will show up or what might happen when Cleveland puts their catcher at first base. I still think the Sox can win the division, but it just seems everyday there's not much good news to report. KW said he wouldn't trade a SP unless the players in return would help contribute to the 2007 team. Garcia was traded for Floyd and Gio with KW saying Floyd would compete with Brandon for the 5th starter's spot. Brandon is traded, 5th spot is in Floyd's hands. As expected, Floyd sucks, but thankfully a player we got back in the McCarthy trade is ahead of schedule, or maybe he's going to be a little rushed, and Floyd is no longer a 5th starter canidate. The Erstad signing was completely worthless and made because KW has always liked him, he felt the Sox lacked a "grinder effect," and because Darin was cheap. This signing makes Pods' signing look worthless, but I think Pods has more to offer this team, and Darin is going to hurt this team more than help by blocking Anderson, batting like crap, and forcing guys who can help this team off the roster (see Perez, and in the article Ozzie said the Sox were looking to move players to get him on the team [Mack?]) I'm glad baseball is coming, but I'm not pumped.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yah, like I said above, more than anything, we need to have some of the regulars start hitting well against lefties again(?). Iguchi, Uribe, Pods. I mean, Uribe kilt lefties in 05. ....and Thome, BA/grinderstad like you originally listed. I'd say five ninth's of the lineup isn't "some." Don't hold your breath on that waiting for all 5 of these guys to turn it around against LHP. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Seriously... how do you make the decision of Molina??? Have you ever seen him play first?
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really freaking ridiculous that Perez doesn't make the roster. Then again, that's what happens when you choose to keep two (relatively useless) sub-750 OPS OFers, one of which is limited to a corner OF spot. I agree. I'd take BA + Pods/Mack with 10-15 starts in CF for the year + Perez over Erstad, Pods, Anderson, Mack, and Pablo mashed together for two positions.

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To say we got equal value is disproved by how much we got for McCarthy. It was a bad trade unless Gio becomes a superstar, but all we lost was 1 year of a washed up pitcher (and please don't bring up 17 wins, that pharce isn't holding water with me, look at his true numbers last year), however that washed up pitcher had more value than what we got. It happens, every GM makes a bad trade, and I think the B-Mac trade will make up for it. Please post the "true" numbers you are talking about. Garcia's overall numbers were even to Garland and I would argue that they were better. -
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 10 team roto keeper league 6x6 (OBP and Holds added)...I'm not happy with my team C -- K. Johjima 1B -- D. Lee 2B -- C. Utley SS -- D. Jeter 3B -- G. Atkins OF -- M. Teahen OF -- J. Willingham OF -- J. Gomes U -- C. Duncan SP -- J. Bonderman SP -- C. Hamels SP -- R. Hill SP -- S. Olsen SP -- M. Pelfrey RP -- J. Nathan RP -- F. Cordero RP -- T. Saito P -- S. Shields P -- S. Linebrink P -- J. Speier My OF is really weak. This was the first draft with keepers out of the pool and I completely underestimated the shallowness this caused in the OF. I wanted to set my IF, especially SS and 2B first, which I did, but ignoring the OF could be my demise. I should be good in SV, Hld, ERA, WHIP, and compete in K's. But my offense, outside of R and SB, is complete crap. So you have no bech? Gomes or Willingham against LHP/Duncan against RHP is a great platoon

BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season
santo=dorf replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Alright this pisses me off, but I can't put all the blame on Ozzie. Sure, he put Hall in a position to fail, but Hall didn't act safely. Then again I wonder how Ozzie would have reacted if Hall sandbagged it and let it go through for a hit. I wonder what's going on in the Angels' camp. I'd like to the Sox to get my original back up catcher target, Jose Molina. -
Toby Hall injured in the 9th Inning today...

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That evil Ozzie. I think he did it on purpose. Sabotage even. Ah, here comes Mr. Strawman to defend everything. This was a dumbass move by Ozzie to make. Why was our backup catcher playing first base so late in the game? Isn't that why we signed grinderstad? -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, but several of the bullpen guys pitch high 90's. So what? Assime Haeger comes into the game in the 7th, after another flame throwing reliever, that means our starter didn't go 6 innings and the Sox probably aren't winning the game. Just think of the order. If players 1,2,3 come up in the 6th inning to face another reliever other than Haeger, what are the odds those same three players will see Haeger in the game? Either the reliver in the 6th has to have the team nearly bat around on him (which probably means he Sox aren't winning or just blew the lead,) or that some how Haeger will be used in the 8th or 9th inning. Very doubtful.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would've liked to have him up at least with the bullpen to be a change of pace. Nothing like trying to hit a knuckler than 98-100mph of pure heat. I get so tired of seeing this line of thought. Unless the relievers are getting rocked, the batters aren't going to face the same reliever more than once. Our 9th inning guy is Jenks, and our 8th inning guys are Thornton and MacDougal. So Haeger comes into the 7th at the latest, probably relieving one of our non-flamethrowing starter.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes he does. I can't blame him....he has 75 million reasons to get in shape. What's your thoughts on Ozzie bunting with Erstad if Pods gets on base in front of our 3/4/5? I'm not sure how good of a bunter grinderstad is, but I imagine it was free to swing at the plate, he would ground out to the right side of the infield alot which would pretty much be the same as bunting. The only solid memory I have of Erstad is when we won the 2005 Pennant. -

I just noticed Thome has a 15/3 walk to strike out ratio this spring. I hope Konerko and Dye hit like last year because Jim will be the only guy on base in front of them. -
