  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, and the Michaels comparison is brutal, too. Michaels never flashed enough power for a long period of time to be a full-time player. Will Delluci's number fall a bit now that he's more of a full-time player? I'd expect that... but they'd have to fall a LONG way for him to be as awful as Podsednik. I'm glad you've finally figured it out after I spent all of last season mentioning it. "It's only 300 at-bats!"
  2. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hafner played one less month. That hurts his HR and RBI totals, but how many more RBI's would Thome have last year if the Sox had Sizemore as their leadoff man instead of Podsednik. I'm guessing he would have at least 5 in the World Series alone.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 09:46 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What kind of asshole heckles Dusty Rhodes' kids during his HOF induction? What were they doing/saying? My Picks: Cena/Undertaker/Lashley/Melina/Mr. Kennedy/MVP/Khali/New Breed
  4. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hafner's best years are in front of him. Thome will be declining in stats every year from this point, probably. Also, Hafner has around 10 years left in him, Thome only has a couple. Plus, the stats you posted were pretty mis-leading... Last season, at the age 28-29, Hafner had a .439 OBP, .659 SLG, and a .308 AVG all together, and crushed lefties. Also, in 40 less AB's, Hafner hit the same amount of homers then Thome, while also driving in 7 more runs. Also, as you posted, Hafner destroys Thome vs. left handed pitching. Plus, Hafner would have had better power numbers most likely, if he had not gotten hit in his elbow by a pitch which ended his season early. After looking at their stats more carefully, it really isn't close anymore. So now 30 years old isn't the peak age for a player as they can put up better numbers in later years.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well he is one of the ugliest players in baseball along with Aaron Harang, Ezequiel Astacio, Jay Gibbons, Brad Wilkerson, Yuniesky Betancourt and possibly Gavin Floyd. Now how can you include Jay Gibbons but forget Joe Borchard?
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What kept Hafner in the minor leagues so long? He was playing American Legion ball when the Braves found him. Didn't start rookie ball until he was 20. EDIT: It was the Braves (of course) who originally found him and then encouraged him to go to college.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> After looking at the stats, I realized it was pretty close. I didn't know their stats were that similar. Thats right, Hafner didn't come up to the bigs until he was about 26-27, correct? Well, Hafner being 29 is a better age then Thome at 37. 29 is usually the peak of a players career, and 37, it usually goes downhill from there... Hafner will be turning 30 in June therefore by your definiton he is going to decline. So if Thome, 7 years older, is putting up similar numbers to a guy who has hit his peak, why is it so obvious to take the second guy?
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's pretty close, but Hafner's youth and ability to hit lefties puts him over the edge, IMO. We have plenty of guys who can hit righties... Travis Hafner is a year younger than Paul Konerko. I know Thome is older, but "youth" isn't a word I would associate with Hafner.
  9. Vs. LHP Hafner: .321/.442/.658/1.100 (222 PA's) Thome: .236/.354/.361/.715 (222 PA's) Vs. RHP Hafner: .300/.436/.659/1.095 (332 PA's) Thome: .321/.454/.749/1.203 (375 PA's) Overall Hafner: .308/.439/.659/1.097 (554 PA's) Thome: .288/.416/.598/1.014 (597 PA's) Don't be silly Bearsox, it's pretty close.
  10. Jorge Cantu f***ing sucks. He is HORRIBLE defensively, and has ZERO plate patience. In the year he batted .286, he had a .311 OBP. That's grinderstad territory. Here's an interesting stat I saw in a baseball rag I bought. Career walks for Cantu: 54 Career double plays for Cantu: 45
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Absolutely. I don't know where anyone gets the idea that Jim Thome is better than Hafner. Thome is better against RHP, but Hafner is MUCH better against LHP. Considering the Sox face about RHP twice as much as lefties, one could argue it makes sense to take Thome.
  12. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> why is everybody so high on lee? I can understand being low on buehrle but lee's never proven a thing. Before anyone mentions his 2005 season, read this; He just loves facing the Royals
  13. Indians are looking really bad right now on ESPN, and they haven't even got to their bullpen yet. Hafner is awful at first, and Peralta still looks like a hack at short.
  14. Statistically Dye was better in the #4 and #5 spots last year.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Sox had the chance to add a player who is known for his ability to crush lefties. He more or less fell into their lap, and the Sox would've had to spend a whole 300K to keep him. Eduardo Perez seemed like way too perfect a fit. Instead, the Sox chose (a couple months earlier) to keep Scott Podsednik for almost ten times as much money. Just gotta have that speed! Kenny is a smart man, and I think you can make a good case for the rest of his moves he made this winter. Keeping Podsednik, though... unexplainable. Would keeping Pods be that big of a deal if we didn't sign grinderstad? I don't like the Pods signing, but I think he's a better for 2007 than Darin.
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Roberts only has one year that really stands out. Durham got plenty of money this offseason despite being 35 years old. I think $15 million over 3 years is fair. Let's get this thing done.
  17. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Chad Durbin ...and from the Tiggers' board, Bobby Seay (yes, that Bobby Seay) will be taking Durbin's spot inthe BP. "HAW HAW"
  18. Nice job Thornton! Note to KW, make more trades with Basavi. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree we need to improve against lefties but that at bat wasnt sugarcoated. You know as well as I do that Hall and maybe Perez were supposed to help in that area . It just didnt pan out. Sox win 3-2 . ....and why didn't it "just pan out" with Eduardo Perez? Was it his fault the Sox had too many OF's?
  19. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SO if he hits .275 and fields decently will u have a problem with him or continue to beat a dead horse ? I think there's a chance he can hit .275 this year, but it'll be with a .320 OBP and sub .400 OPS. Brian Anderson can hit better than that and his fielding will be much more than "decent."
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hawk just got muted. Get used to that, we're going to be seeing A LOT of solo homeruns from the 3 hole. SMALL BALL HOOOOO!!! .....and to think, there are sox fans out there who don't have a problem with Grinderstad's low OBP because of his "intangibles."
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Erstad saw 3 pitches by the way, 1.) ball 2.) called strike 3.) grind out Thanks. That's pretty much what I expected.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 06:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm called that everyday. When I noticed you were banned, my first thoughts were because of the "worst offseason moves" thread or because you called Erstad "grinderstad." I'm guessing if I was defending Mr. 4-3 and asked if someone was "dense," it'd be a different story.
